I've been using this wire crimping tool for years, and it's been a game-changer for my electrical work.
When I needed to move some outlets and switches around the house, I also had to repair a damaged electrical line. It's one of those things that can happen when you're renovating or making changes to your space.
When you need to extend an electrical line, there are a few ways to do it. One reliable method is to use metal or aluminum connectors, which are specifically designed for joining wires together.
This method is not only recommended by safety standards, but it's also a pretty straightforward process.
I needed to extend a few different wires, so I started researching my options. I already have a Klauke and a Pressmaster MCT wire stripper with interchangeable dies, but the dies themselves can be pretty pricey. I wasn't looking to invest in a whole new tool, especially since this was a one-time thing.
After reading some reviews, I came across the TM "KVT" brand, specifically the PK-16U model. However, I decided against buying it because it was a raw tool, and I wasn't sure how well it would hold up. I did find some similar products under the same TM, though.
KRAFTOOL's model 45466 was pricier, but I didn't find any negatives to speak of.
I was already familiar with KVT, and it's not uncommon for them to bundle tools with their products. As for KRAFTOOL, I've got their electrician's side cutters, a ratchet wrench, and a set of screwdrivers. They often source products from German factories and rebrand them under their own label, working with OEM manufacturers like NWS. So, it was a bit of a mixed bag – I'd worked with KVT and other Chinese tool brands before, but I wasn't impressed with the crimpers from Rexant. At the time, I needed a tool that was both fast and high-quality, so I went ahead and ordered it.
🔶️ Heavy-duty wire crimpers from Kraftool PKF-16, designed for copper terminals and sleeves 45466
So, let's take a look at the product description.
KRAFTOOL's PKF-16 wire crimpers are designed for crimping insulated and uninsulated cable terminals and connectors. They feature a high level of durability and ensure the highest quality in electrical work.
The crimping profile is claw-shaped. The body is made from heat-treated tool steel, while the crimping pads are made from Cr-Mo steel. The anti-corrosion coating extends the lifespan, and the return spring speeds up the process. The extended handles allow for two-handed operation.
These crimpers are suitable for crimping uninsulated terminals from TML, T, and GML.
KRAFTOOL's PKF-16 wire crimpers come in a blister pack.
The tool's distinctive color matches the brand's style.
What sets Kraftool apart from other brands on the market is that they source their products from reliable OEM manufacturers. I've had a chance to use the Kraftool 45466 press clamps, and I was impressed by their quality.

So, what are the key features of these press clamps?
The ratcheting mechanism ensures a firm grip and gradual compression of the case, preventing the clamps from slipping back until the cycle is complete. There's also a mechanical lever that allows for emergency or forced release of the compression, which is a nice touch. While it's not a deal-breaker, I appreciate the fact that these clamps come with loops for hanging them, making it easier to work with accessories, especially in tight spaces or at heights.
Overall, the tool is compact and lightweight, making it easy to handle.
The included matrix set allows for working with a range of case sizes, from common to more specialized ones.xa0

Usage
xa0
I've already used these pliers to crimp over 10 electrical boxes, as I was relocating a bunch of lines with outlets and lighting.
xa0
The preparation process is straightforward, so I won't go into details.
I won't go into detail about all the insulation sizes, as it's not easy to take photos with the pliers under a ceiling.
xa0
I've crimped all the matrix sizes, including 10mm and 16mm. By the way, 16mm is a common size for refrigerant tubes in air conditioning. I also used the remaining tubes for insulation.
Apart from that, the most common GM wire sizes are 4, 6, and in cases where you need to add a cable, 1.5 and 2.5mm.
Here's an example of connecting lighting lines in a box.
The clip profile is nice and tapered.xa0
After crimping, I slide the tube into the heat shrink tubing and then wrap it with some Terminator heat shrink tape.
I have to say, I really like the heat shrink tape.As for the process, some people swear by using two layers of heat shrink tubing after crimping. But in my experience, a single layer is usually enough. The heat shrink tape is especially useful when dealing with high-stress connections or when you're planning to add some LED lighting later on.
xa0
I've seen some people complain that there's no tube size that fits perfectly.
Not me. If the tube fits snugly into the crimping tool and doesn't bulge out, you can usually gauge the pressure by hand. Just squeeze the tool gently until you feel the tube start to deform, then stop and release the pressure. You can always back off if it starts to get too tight.
Some tubes have thicker walls, like 10 or 16 gauge. Those ones are a bit trickier to crimp by hand, but it's doable with a bit of effort.
However, when I need to jam a lot of wires into a 16-gauge tube, I usually break out the hydraulic crimping pliers.
xa0
There's a unique feature to these pliers - the large angle of the handle opening. This means you can get a decent grip even in tight spaces, and if needed, you can use spot welding or another tool to secure it. I've got another tool that comes in handy when I need it.
xa0
Overall, the ergonomics are comfortable. Sure, it's a bit pricey for a Taiwanese tool, but it's a solid performer that's paid for itself over time.
xa0
When it comes to the sleeves, starting with the GML 10-5 size, you'll need to use both hands to get a good grip. One-handed operation might not be possible, although if you've got a 10-finger hand, you might be okay.
xa0
I didn't find the tool to be excessively demanding in terms of effort.
xa0
I've come across similar KVT presses, but this one stands out to me in a good way.

🔶️ THE VERDICT
This tool is suitable for both amateur and professional use, whether it's for a home, dacha, or apartment, or for a car workshop.
xa0
Prices have skyrocketed lately - it's all or nothing.
There were other alternatives from Rexant and no-name brands, but it's a matter of luck.
After buying this tool, I stopped experimenting in 2021.
When purchasing, be sure to check the matrix alignment. In my case, everything was perfect right off the bat. I've read that some people experience play in the mechanism.
Using these pliers in a wooden house or made from timber is one of the most reliable ways to disconnect electrical wiring in distribution boxes.
Not Klauke, Knipex, Presmaster, or Weissmuller, but these pliers are a fraction of the cost.

🔷️ PLUS POINTS
I've found the ergonomic design of this tool to be super practical, and it doesn't take long to get used to it - even for smaller and medium-sized cartridges. It works seamlessly with the most common sizes for apartments, houses, and offices. The tool's compact size is also a plus. The mechanism for forced matrix opening is a nice touch. The tool's durability is impressive. In my experience, the alignment of the matrix and the covers is spot on.Compared to other top brands on the Russian market, I think this tool offers a great value for money, quality, and features.xa0
⚠️ MINUSES
