A Hot Dog Letdown: Short Sausages and Lackluster Flavor

summarizeEditor's Summary

I was really looking forward to trying the Vladimirsky Standard 'Bavarian' sausages, but unfortunately, they fell short in terms of flavor and overall experience. The short sausages were a disappointment, and the lackluster taste made them hard to enjoy. While they're convenient and easy to use, the pros don't outweigh the cons in this case. If you're in the market for a quick snack, there are better options available. I'd recommend exploring other options before settling for these sausages. In terms of value for money, I'd say they're not worth the 223 rubles price tag. The sausages are relatively firm and don't fall apart easily, but that's about where the positives end. They're quick to cook and easy to use, but the flavor is completely lacking and unappetizing. The sausages are extremely short and not worth the price, and the taste is overpoweringly smoky and not pleasant. The ingredients list is unimpressive and doesn't inspire confidence. Overall, the Vladimirsky Standard 'Bavarian' sausages are a disappointing product that fails to deliver on flavor and value.

Convenience foods have become a staple in our lives, and while they may not be the healthiest option, they're quick and usually taste good.
Whipping up something on the fly after a long day of work is a nice perk.
You shouldn't deprive yourself of pierogies, dumplings, or sausages when they're just a spoonful away.
In this review, we'll take a closer look at a super quick food option using the Vladimirsky Standard 'Bavarian' sausages.
Vladimirsky Standard 'Bavarian' sausages.
The price for a pack of these sausages is a whopping 223 rubles.
About the product
Meat products, specifically sausage. Product category: meat. 'Bavarian' sausages.
And that's for 280 grams, so it's better to look for a discounted option.
Vladimirsky Standard 'Bavarian' sausages. We bought them because we thought we'd get a quality meal with minimal effort and time.
When we saw the 'Bavarian' sausages at a reasonable price, we immediately grabbed them. We even had to fend off the pensioners in the fight for this product!
Vladimirsky Standard 'Bavarian' sausages. When we got home, we took a closer look at them. The packaging is standard, nothing special.
The ingredients are: pork, chicken fillet, mechanically deboned poultry meat, pork rind, beef, water, whey protein concentrate (pork skin, water), potato starch, curing mixture (salt, fixative: sodium nitrate), salt, dextrose, stabilizer: sodium pyrophosphate, flavor enhancer: monosodium glutamate, antioxidant: ascorbic acid, spices (black pepper), spice extracts (nutmeg), pH regulators (sodium diacetate, sodium acetate), color: carmines. Allergens: Out of concern for your health, we must indicate the possibility of the product containing allergens - milk, eggs, celery, mustard, soy, gluten, nuts, and processed products of these.
We weren't impressed by the ingredients list, to be honest.
The sausages turned out to be shortWhile my partner was busy rustling through the garden in search of fresh veggies, I opened the package.
What a surprise! The sausages are shorties! I mean, the packaging is clever - it looks like there are long sausages, but once you open the package, you realize they're just regular-sized sausages made from scraps.
Vladimir standard sausages. 'Bavarian'.We ended up with three pieces with 4 sausages each (3 x 4 = the answer is in the comments, I'm just bad at math). But we're planning to grill some burgers, and even this sad news couldn't ruin our plans.
Without packaging, they look paleNext, we started cleaning them. It wasn't the most enjoyable experience, but the result was worth it. After removing the outer casing, the sausages looked pale.
So, that was the second letdown - the size wasn't right, and the color wasn't great. I mean, what can you expect from a Bavarian-style hot dog?
It's deformed, but not too badThen, I threw it in the toaster to give it some crunch and infuse it with that unmistakable smoky flavor of a grilled hot dog.
Time to assemble the hot dogThe next step was assembling the hot dog.
I like to customize it to my taste, but no matter what, there's always gotta be some caramelized onions. Not in the classic sense, but more like a fast-food style.
There are a few ways to do it, but my go-to method is this: I finely chop the onions, sprinkle some salt, and let it sit until it releases its juices. Then, I coat it in flour and fry it in sunflower oil, stirring constantly. Once it's done, I drain the excess oil on a paper towel and my onions are ready.
Assembling our hot dog Next, I add the sausages and all the other ingredients, finishing it off with a sprinkle of those crispy onions. And that's a whole meter of pure bliss!
Presentation matters Of course, you can serve it like that, but trust me, it doesn't get devoured. So, it's better to cut it into portions.
Bavarian Sausages. Vladimir Standard. Honestly, these sausages are a letdown on their own. They taste like low-grade milk sausages that have been heavily seasoned with a 'smoky' flavor.
Fortunately, in a dish, they're not as prominent and the sauce helps balance out the flavors.
Bavarian Sausages. Vladimir Standard. Even our cat showed no interest. In fact, he was more fascinated by the burger sauce stuck to the sausage. Let's just say it's written all over his face!
It's all written on his face) With nothing much to do in the village, I decided to give the sausages a bacon makeover by wrapping them in bacon and pan-frying them.
Bavarian Sausages. Vladimir Standard. One positive aspect of these sausages is that they hold their shape pretty well and don't break apart easily during cooking. Out of the entire pack, only three of them burst open.
Presentation matters When paired with something, these sausages are actually edible, and the artificial smokiness isn't as overpowering. Adding sauce to the mix makes them almost perfect.
Vladimirsky Sausages. "Bavarian". As I mentioned earlier, they didn't fall apart, and the texture was actually quite springy, almost rubbery.
Vladimirsky Sausages. "Bavarian". Overall, these sausages were a letdown. Instead of long ones, we got short ones, and it was done on purpose. They wanted to stand out on the shelf with their size and the loud "Bavarian" label.
The taste isn't great. It's all about the smokiness.
If you want to eat sausages in a boiled version, with rice, pasta, or anything like that, I'd recommend choosing a different option.
However, if you're planning to integrate them into a dish where the flavors get mixed together, they might work okay. But in general, I'd give them three stars and wouldn't recommend them. ⭐⭐⭐
