T-Bank Mobile (formerly Tinkoff Mobile)

I've been using T-Bank Mobile for a while now, and it's been a total game-changer for managing my daily finances. This user-friendly mobile banking solution is just as secure as it is convenient, which is a huge plus in my book. With a robust set of features, I can easily check my balance, make payments, track my spending, and stay on top of my money like never before. It's really made a huge difference in my life, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it's saved me a ton of time and stress.

Tinkoff Mobile: A Wild Ride of Good and Bad

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been with Tinkoff Mobile for a year now, and it's been a wild ride. At first, everything was smooth sailing, and I was raving about how great they were. But then, the internet speed started dropping to a crawl during peak hours, and the customer service wasn't exactly what I'd call helpful. Despite these issues, I've managed to save a pretty penny with their affordable plans. I'm currently paying 227 rubles a month for a tariff that includes 600 minutes and 25GB of internet – it's a steal in my book. The prices are super low, especially with the 30% discount I get as a Tinkoff Bank client. The app is really user-friendly, and the connection is generally good, although it can be a bit spotty in certain areas. I've been impressed with the effective spam protection – I've seen a huge drop in unwanted calls and texts. But, there are some downsides. The internet speed can drop to a crawl during peak hours, making it almost unusable. The customer service can be a bit unhelpful at times, which is frustrating when you need assistance. I've experienced some issues with dropped calls, especially when I'm in areas with a lot of users. The coverage in my area could be better – it's not exactly something I can control. I've been with Tinkoff Mobile for a year now, and it's been a real rollercoaster ride. I ditched the big yellow operator after they promised me unlimited internet, but that's a whole different story.
At first, everything was smooth sailing, and I was raving about how great they were to everyone I met. But then, something changed...
The Cost of the Plan
I'm currently on a tariff that includes 600 minutes and 25GB of internet for 453 rubles. There's also a promotion going on - if you sign up for the 25GB and 600 minutes package, you'll get unlimited access to video, music, social media, and messaging apps for just 1 ruble each. So, in the end, you'll get almost complete unlimited access for just 400 rubles a month.
As a Tinkoff Bank client, I also have a Pro subscription (for 200 rubles a month) that includes a 30% discount on my Tinkoff Mobile tariff.
So, in total, I was paying 227 rubles a month for my connection. The price is definitely attractive.
What's Good?
Let's start with the positives.
Tinkoff is a virtual operator that uses existing infrastructure from another operator (Tele2, sometimes MTS) but sells its services under its own brand. And that's not a bad thing, as long as the quality of service doesn't suffer.
The Yellow Bank is always running some marketing campaign or another.
Tinkoff Mobile hasn't been left out either - they've got unlimited apps with discounts for bank clients, a great tariff builder, and a cool secretary named Oleg who'll answer your missed calls or chat with spammers.
I was particularly impressed with the effective spam protection. During my time with Tinkoff, the number of spam calls from banks, clinics, and other scammers has dropped by about 80%.
I loved how I had perfect connection and internet even at my dacha, where other operators can't reach (the Tele2 tower is just 100 meters away).
How it All Changed
It all started in September, when my husband and I went on vacation, and I used my mobile internet a lot.
The first warning sign was the slow loading of the navigation app with traffic jams. But I didn't think much of it.
And then things started to get worse.
By October, I'd already used up 20GB of data.

The first warning sign was the slow loading of the navigation app with traffic jams. But I didn't think much of it.
And then things started to get worse.
By October, I'd already used up 20GB of data.
It's clear that a lot of data is being used by the unlimited apps that cost just 1 ruble each.
I've got to say, the worst part of my experience was Friday, October 13th. I had some downtime at work and decided to spend it mindlessly browsing YouTube videos.
But my internet had other plans - it started buffering video by the minute.
I was shocked by the online speed test results - my incoming connection was a whopping 53.75 KB/s.
Naturally, I reached out to customer support with a question - what's going on?
I got a response saying my area's network was experiencing heavy congestion.
Yeah, right. I'm in the middle of a major city - it's always congested...
The support team was very sympathetic, even throwing in some sad faces in the chat, but swore it was because too many people in my city were using the internet badly. The operator was trying their best, but alas...
I bit my tongue for the first time, but started monitoring speeds at different times of day and locations around the city...
And the results didn't impress me - no matter where I was or what time it was, the max speed I got was around 500 KB/s.
Meanwhile, I asked Google about the low speeds with this provider, and Google gave me a telling picture - all the forums and reviews were filled with the same story: the provider was throttling speeds.
Fast forward to October 18th, 2023, and I'm back at work (and back to wasting time), with the internet speed still not allowing me to explore the vast expanse of the web.
So, I'm back in customer support...
They write back saying they'll check everything, and then ask me to measure the speed using their built-in tool - three minutes after they'd already asked me to do the same thing.
Naturally, I obliged (I'd already done it and taken screenshots, too).
Speed before - 235 KB/s ------ Speed after - This is where things get interesting - the speed at the exact moment I contacted support is worlds apart from what it was 50 minutes prior... (and, funnily enough, the speed plummeted again two hours after I contacted support).
I'm not gonna sugarcoat it.
I get a response saying my area's got bad terrain, there are houses built around me, and I'm basically surrounded by a bunch of users hogging the internet for themselves.
"We can't just cut off one user while keeping another online," they say.
I get it, they're just doing their job, following orders from their superiors, so I'm not blaming customer support at all.
But I do take issue with the operator's attitude towards customers. Why create these promotions if you think someone's using too much data?
Time's up.
I don't make many calls, and for me, internet's the priority – to work and catch up on shows during the day.
When they limit me in such basic things, I get frustrated.
84 Kbps? Come on, Karl! That's just cruel.
I snapped and switched to Tele2.
Yeah, I'll pay 500 rubles instead of 230, but at least my internet will be decent.
They delivered my new SIM card within an hour of my request, and I'm using their temporary number to access the internet (which, by the way, is finally working properly).
My number will be fully transferred to Tele2 in a week.
Today at 11 am, I tested both SIM cards using a special app:
What can I say?
I feel bad for Tinkoff Mobile – it's not their fault, it's the terrain, the number of users, nature, weather, and all that.
With internet like this, people will flee from them, no matter how attractive the prices are.
