Silicone chocolate mold 'Buttons' TM 'MultiDom', reviewThe other side is glossy, and all the details are really well-defined.
Silicone chocolate mold 'Buttons' TM 'MultiDom', reviewThe mold itself is pretty small, measuring 22.6 x 10.5 x 0.8 cm, but it's packed with these adorable buttons of different sizes:
6 large buttons with a diameter of 30 mm and a depth of 5 mm,6 medium buttons with a diameter of 20 mm and a depth of 3 mm,7 small buttons with a diameter of 15 mm and a depth of 2 mm.
I was really impressed with how flexible and pliable the form is - it's a breeze to work with. Plus, it's super stable on my work surface, so I don't have to worry about it sliding around.
One of the features I love about this form is the little loop on the side - it's perfect for hanging it up to dry or just storing it on a hook.
There are also some handy little symbols on the form that remind me how to use it safely - no open flames, no sharp objects, and all that jazz.
Don't use it near an open flame;Don't use it on a hot surface;Don't cut anything with sharp objects;Temperature range: 230°C to -40°C;The material is food-grade, so it's safe for use with edible items.
Using it
I've been using the silicone candy mold 'Buttons' from MultiDom to make all sorts of edible decorations for my baked goods. I've even used it to make chocolate buttons with Belgian Callebaut chocolate drops.
To make this chocolate decoration work, you need to melt the chocolate on a double boiler, then temper it to the right temperature, and finally fill the mold with it.
To get the chocolate to set evenly in the mold, you need to tap it gently on the counter.
Silicone mold "Buttons" applicationNext, pop it into the fridge for 10-15 minutes to set. And then, carefully remove it from the mold - it's a good idea to work with the chocolate in gloves, even if you're making it for yourself, because you don't want fingerprints on the finished product.
The chocolate comes out of the mold really well.
A little patience, and voilà! I ended up with a fantastic button decoration. All the lines are crisp, and it looks like a real button.
And here's how the buttons look on the finished product as a decoration.
I was also impressed with how well the mold performed with jam, and I've written a more detailed post about making original dessert decorations with jam here.
Getting the jam out of the mold is a breeze, thanks to its flexibility.
The jam doesn't stick to the mold, and it transfers the design perfectly.
The finished jam is also great as a decoration.
