A year with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: Still a beast in the phone world

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've been using the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra as my daily driver for over a year now, and it's still a beast in the phone world. The massive 6.8-inch AMOLED display is one of my favorite features, and the rear cameras are almost indistinguishable from the previous and next model. However, I've noticed some scratches on the aluminum frame, which can be a pain to deal with. The phone's long-lasting 5000mAh battery, impressive camera capabilities, and sleek design make it worth every penny. But, it's not without its flaws - the frame's tendency to scratch and the lack of a headphone jack may be drawbacks for some users.

A year with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: Still a beast in the phone world
Hello everyone!
I've been using the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra as my daily driver for over a year now, and I've got to say, it's been a great experience. I'm actually a bit hesitant to upgrade to the next model, as this one has grown on me. But let's take a closer look at it...
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with an oleophobic coating, which means fingerprints are a thing of the past. I've got a test screen protector on right now, so don't mind the texture.
I've got to say, the screen on this thing is massive. It's like a shovel, but I'm actually really into it. The rear cameras on the S22 Ultra are almost indistinguishable from the previous and next model. They look really impressive and classy. The front camera remains unchanged. The only thing they've removed is the metal trim that was on the S21.
The side frame is made of aluminum, which isn't super practical in my book. It's got a big tendency to scratch, and it's a pain to deal with dust and small particles. It's not the first phone I've had this issue with. The front and back panels are made of toughened glass. Although it doesn't look like it at first glance.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has got some serious water-resistance going on, which is a major plus for me. It can withstand being submerged in water at 1.5-2 meters for up to 30 minutes.
On the right side, you've got the usual two control buttons. They're massive, metal, and super easy to press. Down at the bottom, you'll find a mic, speaker, charging port, a tray for two SIM cards that slides out, and a USB-C port for the S Pen stylus.
I have to admit, I was surprised to find the S Pen stylus on this device, even though it's been around since the 21 model. This was my first time using it on the S22 Ultra. Check out this nifty quad-camera setup on the bottom left of my phone. I remember on the previous model, you had to buy the camera module separately as an add-on.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra comes equipped with a quad-camera setup, and I'm blown away by its mobile photography capabilities. Each new model seems to take the camera game to the next level. The pictures are vibrant, colorful, and spot-on accurate.
I took some fresh photos during the day using the primary camera, and I'm impressed. All the photos were taken without flash, at different times. The primary camera is 12MP, and the main camera is 108MP.
The phone also comes with reverse wireless charging. I'm really stoked that Samsung has finally included wireless charging in their recent models. It's a total game-changer for how I charge my phone.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has got all the biometric features I need, including a fingerprint sensor that I can use right away for added convenience. It's also packed with other sensors like an accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor, Hall sensor, ambient light sensor, and presence sensor.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 5000mAh battery, which is massive and perfect for me. However, its autonomy falls short compared to its predecessors in this series, mainly due to its power-hungry screen. That's a bummer, as I'd love to see more energy efficiency.
I've had this phone for over a year now, and it's been a reliable companion. I chose the standard black version with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Yeah, some people might say that's a lot of storage, but I didn't plan on filling it up completely. And so far, it's been performing flawlessly.
This thing is a beast, and I mean that in the best possible way. It's got a ton of features, it's super stylish, and it's got a massive, beautiful design that's all its own. And to top it all off, it's got built-in artificial intelligence. If you're a fan of tiny smartphones, you might want to look elsewhere in the lineup. For me, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has become so familiar that I'll be sad to part with it.
Anyway, I hope you find a great new gadget and happy shopping! Thanks for reading!
