My Epic Fail with Rostelecom: Don't Bother Porting Your Number

Rostelecom Mobile

I've been using Rostelecom Mobile for a few months now, and I'm still really happy with my choice. The interface is super easy to navigate, even for a tech newbie like me. Their customer support is top-notch - I've had to contact them a few times, and they've always been helpful. The build quality is solid, and the battery life is longer than I expected. That's a big plus in my book. I'd say the value for money is great, and I don't have any major complaints. I've been using it for a while now, and it's still going strong.

My Epic Fail with Rostelecom: Don't Bother Porting Your Number

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'm still fuming about my experience with Rostelecom. The constant internet outages in my neighborhood were the final straw. I mean, what's the point of having a reliable connection if it's just going to die on me? I'd had enough of waiting for them to get their act together. So, I started shopping around for a new mobile operator with better rates. That's when Rostelecom's ads started popping up everywhere, touting their super-competitive prices. I figured, why not give 'em a shot? I'd at least get a good value for my money. But things took a turn for the worse when I tried to port my number over. The first request was rejected because it was registered in a different region. I headed to the Rostelecom office on the other side of town to see what was going on, and let me tell you, it was a total disaster.

I'm still fuming about my experience with Rostelecom. I mean, I get that prices are rising across the board, but what really gets my goat is the constant internet outages. I'm talking dead zones in my neighborhood, and it's like, come on, can't they get their act together? I'm done waiting.
So, I started shopping around for a new mobile operator with better rates. That's when Rostelecom's ads started popping up everywhere, touting their super-competitive prices. I figured, why not give 'em a shot? I'd at least get a good value for my money.
Before signing up, I made sure to check if I could port my number over. I mean, it's tied to all sorts of services, and changing it would be a real pain. I ordered a SIM card, and it arrived lightning-fast. I activated it following the instructions, using government services and all the other related services.
But then things took a turn for the worse. The first request to port my number was rejected because, get this, it was registered in a different region. I'm not even kidding. I decided to head to the Rostelecom office on the other side of town to see what was going on. They told me they weren't accepting new customers in person and that I should contact customer support or the hotline.
Uh, okay. Because I had already tried contacting customer support the day before, and they just kept telling me to resubmit my request. And I did, multiple times, but I kept getting rejected. The hotline was no help either. They suggested I contact the sales team directly to verify my info.
So, I did that. And guess what? They told me there was no problem with my number and that it was registered in the same region. Mind. Blown. I was starting to think I was losing my mind.
After a few more failed attempts, I threw in the towel. Maybe I had messed up with my number somehow. I didn't want to waste any more of my time dealing with their shipping issues.
But then I decided to try porting my dad's number. I ordered a new SIM card, and we went through the same process. And you know what? It worked. We just had to make sure all the info matched – name, passport, phone number. It was a breeze compared to my experience.
It's pretty clear that Rostelecom is just trying to lure customers in with the promise of porting their numbers, which, by the way, costs extra. But when it comes down to it, they just can't deliver. Their customer support is a joke.
Now, I don't know if their internet speed and quality are any good. But I'm not interested in dealing with a company that's so clearly unreliable. I need a provider that can give me a good build quality and ease of use.
So, if you need a new number with a good rate, you might as well try Rostelecom. But don't say I didn't warn you. Be prepared for a world of hassle when trying to port your number.
I'm done with Rostelecom. I'm going to have to look into other options for my phone service. Maybe I'll try a different provider that can give me a better value for my money and some decent customer support.

Apparently, they're a common occurrence in my neighborhood, and it's like they're not even trying to fix the problem.

Not on your life. They're about as helpful as a chocolate teapot.

What's the process for porting my number over to Rostelecom?

It's a real pain, let me tell you. First, they rejected my request because it was registered in a different region. I had to go all the way to their office to sort it out.

Are Rostelecom's prices really that competitive?

Yeah, they're pretty good, but not good enough to make up for their terrible service.

Can I use Rostelecom for government services?

Yeah, they integrate with all the usual services, but don't expect it to be seamless.
