A Cordless Trimmer That Gets the Job Done, But Has Its Limits

summarizeEditor's Summary

I inherited a plot of land with overgrown grass and realized how essential a trimmer is for keeping your property looking neat. After using the Patriot TR 245Li electric trimmer for a while, I can confidently say it's a great tool for small areas with soft grass. However, it's not without its limitations. The trimmer is super lightweight and portable, making it easy to carry around, but it's not suitable for large areas or thick, hard-to-cut grass. It's also not the most powerful trimmer on the market, and the battery life could be longer. I've found it's perfect for small plots of land, especially if you have mobility issues, as it's designed to be used by people of all heights. The trimmer is relatively quiet, which is a bonus when working in a residential area. It's also incredibly easy to use, even for someone who's new to using trimmers like me.

I never thought I'd need a trimmer until I inherited a plot of land with overgrown grass. Yanking at it was getting old fast, and I realized how essential a trimmer is for keeping your property looking neat. If you're in the same boat, I'm here to share my experience with the Patriot TR 245Li electric trimmer.
I've got the Patriot TR 245Li electric trimmer, and I was excited to put it to the test. As someone who's new to using trimmers, I was a bit skeptical about how well it would perform. But after using it for a while, I can confidently say that it's a great tool for small areas with soft grass.
So, why an electric trimmer? Well, I don't have electricity on my plot, so anything that needs to be plugged in is out of the question. Gas-powered trimmers are also a no-go for me, as they're just too heavy and physically demanding. My husband works a lot, so I needed a tool that I could use on my own, without having to rely on him to cut the grass.
With an electric trimmer, I could take it to the plot, use it, and then bring it back home. Plus, it's lightweight and portable, so I can easily carry it around.
The main criteria that led me to choose an electric trimmer were:
Portability and lightness, so I can carry it in my hands. The ability to cut the grass with my own two hands.Easy to use. Again, because I'm using it with my own hands. Not powered by the grid.I read all the reviews before buying, and I have to admit, I wasn't entirely sure what set this trimmer apart from the cheaper ones. The trimmer was purchased at DSN for 4499 rubles, and its price has remained relatively stable, with a 100-ruble increase.
The Patriot TR 245Li electric trimmer is a cordless trimmer that's perfect for small areas with soft grass. It's lightweight and portable, making it easy to carry around and use on your own. The battery life is a major concern for me, as I wasn't sure if it would be powerful enough to cut more than just weeds. According to the product specs, the run time without recharging is 50.4 minutes, but in reality, it's nowhere near that.
I've found that the battery on this Patriot trimmer lasts around 15-20 minutes, but if you're trying to cut thicker weeds or overgrown brambles, you'll struggle to get through a large area in one session. You'll need to make multiple passes over the same spot. This trimmer is really best suited for cutting softer grass, like the kind you'd find on a footpath. It does a great job with that.
I wanted to show you the before and after photos of me mowing the grass around the flowerbeds at my house, because we got a bit forgotten last year.
I noticed that when you first start using it, on a full battery charge, it handles thicker weeds just fine - krapiva, osot that hasn't spread yet, for example. But as the battery starts to run out, it loses some of its strength. Sometimes you even need to go over the same spot multiple times to get the job done.
The battery takes about 1.5 hours to charge, and then you can use it again, but let's be real - it's not exactly the most enjoyable experience cutting the grass in multiple sessions. By the time you've finished one session, you've probably gotten distracted by something else, or you're just plain tired, because let's face it, taking care of a private property requires physical labor.
Ideally, having at least two batteries for this trimmer would eliminate most of the issues with it running out of power.
I was really looking for a trimmer that was easy for me to use, and I'm happy to report that this Patriot TR 245Li has met my expectations. I can handle it on my own, my husband just refills the line, and I can take it to the garden and cut the grass myself.
The telescoping handle makes it super mobile and compact. When it's fully extended, it's just the right length for my 155-160cm height (I'm not exactly sure, but it works for me!). However, someone a bit taller might find it a bit of a strain on their back after a while.
One thing that does get to me is the feeling of fatigue in my hand, especially towards the end of the battery life. It's almost unbearable, and the sensation lingers for a bit after I've finished cutting the grass. I've even asked my neighbor who's been using it, and he's experienced the same thing.
I have to say, noise level wasn't a major concern for us, but I do want to mention that this trimmer is relatively quiet compared to gas-powered or electric ones. If you're standing nearby and someone yells, you'll definitely hear it.
I'm lucky to have a relatively clean garden, so I don't have to worry about debris flying out from under the trimmer. That being said, we did invest in a mask, and I've never had any issues, even when cutting close to the ground. Of course, it's essential to follow safety precautions, but I do appreciate how easy it is to use this trimmer. I've had some issues with the metal guard coming loose a few times, but that's about it.
I've left the cordless stuff to the guys, so I won't be sharing any tips on that. There are plenty of texts and videos online that cover it.
The Patriot TR 245Li electric trimmer is a great tool for small areas with soft grass. It's lightweight and portable, making it easy to carry around and use on your own. However, it's not the best option for bigger jobs, like cutting a whole section of the lawn. For that, you'll need something more powerful.
When choosing an electric trimmer, you've got to take all this into account and read reviews from others in the same situation. Don't expect too much from it, or you'll be disappointed.
I'd give it 4 stars because:
It doesn't last as long as promised without needing a recharge. The metal blade broke off after only a short time.Overall, it's not bad for its category, and I'd recommend it if you can't afford or don't have space for a better tool. We've used it for a season and are looking forward to using it again when the weather warms up. At least it's still working after being stored in the garage all winter.
