Editor's Summary
This mouse catcher is an efficient and safe solution for households with pet cats. It's easy to use, and the results are impressive. While it has some minor drawbacks, the pros far outweigh the cons. I highly recommend it.
Introduction
Mouse infestation is a common problem in private homes. We've encountered it too. In fact, mice have always been present in our home, albeit in small numbers. Our cat catches them, but this year, their population seemed to exceed her capabilities. We had to resort to external help.
We first tried glue traps, but had to abandon them. Relatives weren't too keen on giving them up, but I convinced them that I'd find an alternative. I was concerned about the cat getting stuck in the glue traps, which didn't sit well with me. After one evening, I decided to look for a different solution. I didn't want to confine the cat to a storage room at night. I'm used to having her around, sleeping next to me. So, I needed a solution that would allow me to leave the cat at home.
The Solution
After searching online, I found this mouse catcher:
Relatives laughed, saying it was a joke, but I bought it. I'd seen reviews and videos demonstrating its mechanism. The price was just 90 rubles. It might be cheaper at hardware stores, but we didn't have one nearby, so I bought it from Wildberries.
It arrived four days after ordering. I placed the mouse catcher in a favorite mouse spot that same evening.
The device is easy to load. You simply open it, insert the bait, and it's ready. To avoid hitting your fingers while inserting the bait, I hold the back part to prevent the mechanism from triggering. To prevent the mouse catcher from moving, I tied it down.
The mouse catcher can move due to the cat or if the mouse manages to grab it with its paw instead of its head/neck.
In the first evening, this little device caught 4 mice! The next day, it caught 2 more. Today, it caught 2 more. In total, over 12 days, it caught 8 mice, and our cat caught a few more.
I consider this device very effective. It's safe for our household pet. Mice usually don't suffer much. It's a quick kill.
Removing the caught mouse is easy, and you don't need to touch it. You simply release the mouse catcher's jaws, and the mouse is gone.
I didn't include photos of the mice. Although they're pests, they're still warm-blooded animals. However, I think everyone can imagine what a dead mouse looks like with its head trapped in this device.
I RECOMMEND IT!
Pros:
- The device looks compact and interesting, even charming. Wooden ones from my childhood looked more cumbersome.- EFFICIENCY! This little device caught over a dozen mice. One small device, and it's done the job.- Mice don't suffer. There's no screaming or struggling. It's a quick kill. Usually, mice die immediately. With glue traps, it was worse.- It's safe for household pets. You can place it in your home without worrying about your cat getting hurt or trapped.- It's easy to reload. I don't know how others do it, but I simply hold the back part and insert the bait into the designated compartment. The compartment is small, but it works.- You don't need to touch the caught mouse. Simply release the mouse catcher's jaws, and it's gone. I usually take it to the fireplace and let it burn.- It comes with a mounting option, but I simply tied it down.
Cons:
- It's very lightweight. Mice can easily move it. The device might spring shut when it's triggered. So, it's essential to secure it. This isn't a problem for us, so it's not a significant minus for me.- The bait compartment is a bit small. I think it could be redesigned to prevent mice from pulling out the bait. However, it still works, and I've seen similar designs. It's not a major minus, but a minor improvement would be welcome.- It could be more sensitive. Mice sometimes manage to pull out the bait without triggering the mechanism. It's not a 100% catch rate, but it's very high. Smaller mice can eat the bait and escape, while larger ones get caught. It's a matter of luck, but overall, it's effective.
Expert Opinion
This mouse catcher is an efficient and safe solution for households with pet cats. It's easy to use, and the results are impressive. While it has some minor drawbacks, the pros far outweigh the cons. I highly recommend it.
