Not Your Average Pakistani Tea: A Refreshing Brew with a Few Red Flags

summarizeEditor's Summary

I recently tried Al-Jannat's unique black tea from Pakistan, and while it's a refreshing brew, I've got some concerns about its composition. The packaging is nice, but it's missing some crucial info. In hot water, the tea brews perfectly, but I couldn't taste much of anything. I'm not a fan of artificial additives, and this tea seems to have a lot of colorants. I recently picked up a packet of Al-Jannat's unique black tea from Pakistan, which the salesperson in the store had been raving about. I'm here to share my experience with this tea.
Manufacturer: IP "FERDAUS" in Almaty Product type: Black granulated tea Weight: 250g Price: Approximately 200 rubles
✔ Outer packaging:
The cardboard packaging has a nice design, with an image of a strong tea with milk. There's hardly any information about the tea itself.
Al-Jannat Pakistani Tea
✔ Full composition:
Black granulated tea from Pakistan.
I'm not entirely convinced about the composition of this tea, and I'll get to that later.
The tea comes with a metal teaspoon, which is decent.
Let's take a closer look at the tea.
Now, let's talk about brewing. Since this tea is unique, I'll use cold water to see what happens.
I added a few granules to a glass of water and watched as the bright orange "threads" of the tea appeared.
I added more granules, and within a minute, the water started to change color.
Al-Jannat Pakistani Tea I stirred the contents, and within a short while, I had a refreshing cold tea.
This tea can even be brewed on the palm of your hand, and it'll still turn the water a lovely color.
However, this means that the tea uses a lot of colorants, which is a bit suspicious.
Al-Jannat Pakistani Tea So, what's the verdict? This tea contains an enormous amount of colorants.
If you try to steep a natural tea in cold water, it won't change color even after hours, and the water will remain transparent or slightly change color.
This is not the case with this tea.
Not to mention, the packaging doesn't even mention the use of colorants.
✔ My impressions:
In hot water, Al-Jannat's Pakistani tea "Al-Jannat Gold" brews perfectly, just like the image on the packaging. It's a strong tea that's usually served with milk. I couldn't taste much of anything.
If you see this tea in the store, I'd advise you to pass it up.
