Editor's Summary
The Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III is a camera that's more suited for self-portraits and photos with the flash. While it's a great camera in those areas, it's limited in its capabilities and not worth the price tag.
Introduction
I, like many others, was swept up in the hype surrounding this camera. Everywhere I looked, there were stunning photos of beautiful women and breathtaking Maldivian sunsets. While a Maldivian sunset may be out of my budget, I was determined to get my hands on this camera.
The fact that it was difficult to find and purchase only added to its allure. It was like the elusive Da Vinci, with everyone wanting a piece of it but few able to get their hands on one.
However, I was determined to get my hands on it. I spoke to a friend who had connections in China and was able to purchase it from an official Canon store.
The price, including shipping, came out to around $1,200. I was thrilled to have finally gotten my hands on it, especially considering that it was selling for over $1,600 on Ozon and Yandex Market.
First Impressions
The camera arrived after about a week, and I was excited to try it out. The first thing I noticed was how compact and lightweight it was, making it easy to take with me wherever I went.
The camera came with a charger, instruction manual, and other accessories. However, my first disappointment was with the screen. Unlike my Canon M50, which has a screen that can be folded in, this camera's screen is fixed and cannot be hidden.
I did end up putting a screen protector on it, but it didn't make a huge difference. The other thing that took some getting used to was the flip-up screen mechanism. It's not something I'm used to, and it took some time to get used to.
Features and Performance
One of the features I was excited about was the ability to remotely control the camera using the Canon app on my phone. It's a game-changer for self-portraits, and I found it to be incredibly convenient.
The camera also has a microphone input and a USB port for connecting cables. However, the lack of a swappable lens was a major disappointment. I'm used to being able to swap out lenses on my M50, and this was a major drawback for me.
The menu system is familiar to anyone who's used a Canon camera before, but the lack of a swappable lens was a major letdown.
Photography Experience
The camera takes great photos, but it's limited to self-portraits and photos with the flash. Without the flash, the photos are just okay, and I found myself getting bored with them quickly.
I tried to use it to take photos of the sunset, but they were just okay. I compared them to the photos I took with my M50, and they just didn't compare.
I ended up selling the camera after about a month and a half, and I was able to get a good price for it. However, I was left feeling disappointed and frustrated with the experience.
Conclusion
The Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III is a camera that's more suited for self-portraits and photos with the flash. While it's a great camera in those areas, it's limited in its capabilities and not worth the price tag.
If you're looking for a camera that can take great photos in a variety of situations, I would recommend looking elsewhere. The Canon M50, for example, is a great option for anyone looking for a camera that can take great photos without breaking the bank.
