My Hands-On Experience with Yandex Pay's New Payment Sticker

I've been a huge fan of Yandex and its products, including Yandex Pay, for ages. I've already shared the benefits of the card in a previous post here.

I've been using the digital card for years, so I was eagerly waiting for the physical card to arrive, just like many other users. But before that, the payment sticker came out – essentially the same thing, right?

When I saw the announcement of the sticker in the app, I immediately ordered it from the nearest Yandex pickup point. Despite the late hour, they promised to deliver it the next day – which they did.

It's worth mentioning that the ordering, service, and delivery of the sticker are all free, with no additional conditions.

Next day, the envelope with the sticker arrived at the pickup point even earlier than the promised 18:00. The envelope was packed in an additional protective pouch with a sticker.

The sticker itself is packed in a stylish purple envelope made of 'tactile' paper. Inside the envelope, I was expecting just a sticker, but what I got was a full-fledged bank card with a vertical orientation, minus a sticker that's easily detachable – nice touch!

It's worth noting that before you can use the sticker, you need to activate it. There's a reminder on the card in the envelope, as well as in the Yandex Pay app. Activation is a breeze and happens quickly, using the code from the SMS.

Now, my Yandex app reflects two cards, where it's clear which one is which from the subtitle under the icon. Both cards are linked to the same account.

One thing that surprised me – you can actually withdraw cash at any ATM with the sticker, but there's a 2% commission. Plus, there might be an additional fee from the bank's ATM. If the amount is small, the 2% commission isn't a huge deal, in my opinion.

Speaking of which, I recently had a frustrating experience at a cafe where they refused to accept my QR payment. They only accepted card or cash payments, which meant I had to pay with a card from another bank with a smaller cashback rate. That was a bummer.

Today I'm going to try using the sticker for offline shop payments, so I'll update this review with my first impressions soon.
