Tinkoff Point's Reputation Raises Red Flags for Freelancers

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'm sharing my shocking experience with Tinkoff Point, a bank that raised major red flags for me as a freelancer. I opened accounts with them, but they blocked my business account after a large payment, citing 'negative factors' without giving me a clear reason. I had to jump through hoops to resolve the issue, and even after I opened a new account with Tinkoff Bank, the problem persisted. This is a warning to fellow freelancers: tread carefully with Tinkoff Point.

I opened business and personal accounts with Tinkoff Point on August 2, 2024, after reading a ton of reviews online. Just a week later, on August 9, I got a huge payment of 300,000 rubles from a long-time client, but they immediately blocked my account and asked for more documentation. The thing is, I'd already provided all the necessary papers, but they still blocked me. I sent over the contract with the client and my explanations, but they responded on August 12, saying they couldn't work with me without a clear reason. They basically told me to write a statement to close the account and transfer the remaining funds to me via the details I provided. I was caught off guard, but I quickly opened a new account with Tinkoff Bank within an hour and everything worked smoothly for four months. I thought I'd put the issue with Tinkoff Point behind me, but it turned out they hadn't forgotten. When a new client tried to pay me for my work over the past few months, the bank wouldn't let them make the payment to me because of 'negative factors' associated with my account. I've talked to their support team multiple times, but it's been a dead-end conversation. They acknowledge the negative factor, but claim it doesn't affect anything – and that it might be removed someday. To add insult to injury, I paid for a full account access with Tinkoff Point, but it shows everything is green and looks great. However, when I check my business account in the Tinkoff Point dashboard, I see a negative factor. So, Tinkoff Point's account shows incorrect information, my money is stuck, and I'm not sure what to do except advise everyone to find out which bank their clients have accounts with and avoid working with them if it's Tinkoff Point.
UPDATE: I'm not sure what caused it, but maybe my negative reviews had an impact, or maybe six months have passed since the incident – but the negative factor has been removed. I'm upgrading my rating by two stars.
