My Sberbank Nightmare Just Got a Whole Lot Worse

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've got a bone to pick with Sberbank, and things just took a turn for the worse. I needed a Sberbank account for annual transfers, but their fees and customer service have been a major letdown. The latest blow? A 150-ruble monthly maintenance fee, unless you open a card and spend 50,000 rubles a month. Yeah, that's just a great deal. To top it off, Sberbank still charges commissions for paying utility bills and other services. It's like they're trying to nickel-and-dime me to death. Their staff isn't much better, constantly trying to sneak in additional services and fees. Needless to say, I'm not impressed. I've tried to make the most of it, but the value for money just isn't there. I've been looking for a better option, but so far, nothing's come close.

My Sberbank Nightmare Just Got a Whole Lot Worse
I'm still fuming about my experience with Sberbank, and things just took a turn for the worse.
It's not like I was thrilled about using their services in the first place, but I needed a Sberbank account for a few annual transfers from another employer.
However, things started to go downhill when I received an email stating that I'd have to pay 150 rubles a month for account maintenance from January 1st, 2026.
Or, I could get the account maintenance for free if I opened a card and spent at least 50,000 rubles a month on it.
I mean, who needs a card just to get free account maintenance?
And what really gets my goat is that Sberbank still charges a commission for paying utility bills and other services.
I haven't seen that kind of thing in other banks for years.
It's not just the fees that are the problem, though. The way their staff operates is also a major issue.
They seem to be trained in a weird way. They're constantly trying to sneak in additional services, paid and unpaid.
They'll literally force you to open something from the top that you don't even need.
They evaluate themselves quietly through your app when you visit the office.
They print out your account details for a fee, even if you didn't ask for it.
They don't listen and do things their own way.
I even had to ask for my card to be delivered twice - I ordered it online, went to the office, and they said it wasn't ready.
They had to order a new one for me, and I had to open a credit account to get it.
I was furious and they offered to just order it for me, but I wouldn't have to pick it up...It's mind-boggling.
They also started adding services I didn't ask for to my account, supposedly for their own employee's registration number, so they can get extra pay.
The audacity is staggering.
I get it, maybe their leadership is to blame, but it's really off-putting.
I'm seriously considering switching banks because of their behavior.
I'm getting constant calls and being pushed to take out loans.
I'm at my wit's end.
I know many banks call, but Sberbank seems to be the worst.
Poorly timed messages saying they called if you didn't answer...
And if you're unfortunate enough to talk to an assistant, they'll start pestering you with rating requests.
They'll just keep asking for your opinion on everything.
I'm not sure who's had a good experience with them, but mine has been nothing but negative.
From the staff to the products to the fees to the cashback policy to their loyalty program.
They even started charging for account maintenance... I thought it couldn't get any worse, but they managed.
No other bank has ever offered me that before!
Okay, so here's the deal with Sberbank - you guys asked for feedback, so I'm giving it to you.
And I'm not just responding to two questions, I'm going the extra mile.
Sorry, readers, this is a bit of a rant, but I just had to get it off my chest.
I've cut ties with them entirely, and guess what?
They've even given me the option to close my account directly in the app, which wasn't possible before.
I'm just glad I don't have to deal with them again.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you stay far, far away from Sberbank too!
