Ocular Sciences High Time 55 Contact Lenses

I've been using these contact lenses for a while now, and I'm really impressed with the comfort and clarity they provide. The build quality is top-notch, and they're super easy to put in and take out. If you're looking for a reliable option, these are definitely worth checking out. They offer great value for money, and I've had no issues with them - no irritation, no dryness, no problems with my vision. I've used them for extended periods, and they still feel great.

Why I Still Swear by These Contact Lenses After 17 Years

summarizeEditor's Summary

I've worn contact lenses nonstop for over 17 years, and after trying a handful of brands, I've stuck with Ocular Sciences High Time 55 for over 15 years. These lenses have been a game changer for me, offering exceptional comfort, excellent value for money, and reliable performance. While my optometrist has tried to convince me to switch to more modern alternatives, I've been hesitant to change what works. In this review, I'll share my thoughts on these lenses and some of the newer options I've considered. I've worn them for extended periods, and they've never caused any significant issues. The lenses are designed to stay in place, even during active wear, which is a total game changer. I've never experienced any dryness or irritation with these lenses, and I think this is because they're designed to be breathable and gentle on the eyes. I clean my contact lenses regularly with a gentle cleaning solution, and I make sure to rinse them thoroughly before putting them in my eyes. I also recommend cleaning your lenses regularly and storing them properly to extend their lifespan.

Why I Still Swear by These Contact Lenses After 17 Years
I've been wearing contact lenses nonstop - except for when I sleep - for over 17 years now, and in that time, I've only tried a handful of brands. I actually stuck with Ocular Sciences High Time 55 for over 15 years after my friend recommended them to me in middle school.
It's been quite a journey, and I've learned a thing or two about what works for me and what doesn't. In this review, I'll share my thoughts on these lenses as well as some of the more modern and advanced alternatives that my optometrist has tried to convince me to switch to.
Let's get started!
Prices and Where to Buy
Unfortunately, these lenses are only available in a limited number of optical stores. I buy mine exclusively at Concor in Ufa, and they currently cost 360 rubles per pair for a month's supply.
Concor only offers these types of vouchers, so be sure to check with them before making a purchase.
Description
Contact lenses High Time 55 are high-quality and comfortable lenses designed by Ocular Sciences (now CooperVision) experts using innovative materials and technologies. Additionally, they come equipped with a UV filter that protects users' eyes from harmful ultraviolet radiation.
Here are some of the key features of High Time 55 lenses:
High-quality materials that provide excellent comfort and visionUV filter for protection against ultraviolet radiationCrystal-clear vision with high optical standardsEasy to use and manipulateOne of the things that impressed me most about these lenses is the materials used. They're made from oculaficon D, which works beautifully with the delicate tissues of my eyes, making them super comfortable to wear.
The high optical standards are pretty incredible, with crystal-clear vision that's hard to beat. I also loved how easy it was to use and manipulate these lenses - the edges are slightly tinted, which made a big difference for me.
And, of course, the built-in UV filter was a great bonus.
Here are the technical specifications for High Time 55 lenses:
Manufacturer: CooperVisionWearing mode: DailyDisinfection method: Peroxide, Heat, ChemicalCenter thickness (mm): 0.07Water content (%): 55Brand: HighDesign: SphericalPurpose: OpticalType: Contact lensesReplacement: Every monthManufacturing method: CastingDiameter: 14.2FDA: Fourth groupPackaging type: Blister packsDK/L, Dk/t: 18.8Material: Oculaficon DColorless: YesVisible in solution: YesWhen it comes to the Dk/t value, which determines how well the lenses let oxygen in, I wanted to share this:
In general, Dk/t for hydrogel lenses usually falls within the range of 20-40 units. While that's usually enough for daily wear, many studies suggest that a minimum Dk/t of 80 is needed to keep my eyes healthy. For nighttime wear, even higher values are required. Oxygen permeability is directly proportional to water content: the more water, the more oxygen gets to my cornea, which is great for my eye health. However, as water content increases, hydrogel lenses become too soft to handle, so the maximum water content is capped at 70%.
I have to say, our High Time lenses have a Dk/t of 18.8, which is below average, but honestly, I never felt like my eyes were oxygen-deprived.
How They Look
My lenses come in a cardboard box of six, but I've been buying them by the pair for years, even though the packaging clearly says 'not to be sold individually' - optics from Concorde couldn't care less.
They're pretty thin, soft, and completely transparent.
So, these lenses are strictly for vision correction - they don't affect the iris color at all.
Composition
55% water, 45% okufilkon D (with UV protection).
What's okufilkon D?
This is a hydrogel that contains more water - 55% - unlike polymacon, which has less water content.
My Impressions
I've gotta say, I was expecting the lenses to feel outdated after 17 years, but they still feel totally comfortable to me. Not 'life-changing' or 'unbelievable,' just normal.
The lenses don't bother me at all when I'm wearing them. They don't dry out, they don't move around, they don't irritate my eyes, and they don't feel like they're even there. I don't even think about them most of the time.
My eye doesn't dry out when I have the lenses in, and I don't need to use drops all day.
I can easily go 12 hours without taking them out, and my eyes don't get dry or itchy at the end of the day (except in super dry environments).
But I do need to take them out before bed, or I'll wake up with red, gunky eyes from conjunctivitis. It's not always the case, but it's happened to me before. Sometimes I'll wake up with just dryness and a lens stuck to my cornea - not the most pleasant feeling, but it's easily fixed.
For myself, I always buy lenses for a month, but I end up wearing them longer than that. The optometrists always tell me that's not a good idea, but they never explain why. They just say it'll cause conjunctivitis and potentially even blindness. But I've been wearing them for 17 years, and I've never had any problems like that.
The optometrists in the optical stores often try to upsell me on newer lenses, saying that the technology is outdated and the materials are different now. They claim that the new lenses are so much better that I can wear them for weeks without any issues. And, of course, they're three to four times more expensive.
I have to admit, I caved in to the sales pitch and got 'modern' contacts, and I've got to say, it was a disastrous experience wearing Air Optix. You can read all about it if you follow the link.
So Why Do I Keep Going Back to High Time Contacts?
They offer great value for money; The curvature fits my eyes perfectly; They're super comfortable to wear; They come in a range of powers (0.15, 0.75);They're easy to care for and work well in any cleaning solution; They don't break easily due to their optimal thickness; And most importantly, they haven't caused me any serious eye problems.Price 360 rub./pair
