Hello!
I have to admit, I wasn't planning on writing this review until I started drinking this wine and got inspired.
I'm not a huge fan of sparkling wines, to be honest. I love dry red wines from Spain, Italy, and France, and some dry whites. But when it comes to other types of alcohol, I'm just not that into them, especially since my stomach isn't too fond of them either.
But New Year's Eve is a time when you want to stick to some traditions, and for us, that means Prosecco. Specifically, Zonin Prosecco DOC.
So, Zonin Prosecco is a wine that's been a staple in my household for years. I've always been a fan of its delicate fizz, freshness, and lightness. And let's be real, it's a great value for money.
Zonin Prosecco DOC reviewTechnical infoFull name: Zonin Prosecco DOCProducer: ZoninCountry of origin: Italy, VenetoVolume: 750mlComposition:Glera grapes, food additive (preservative, antioxidant) - sulfur dioxide
6. Characteristics:
This famous Italian sparkling wine is known for its delicate fizz, freshness, lightness, and attractive fruit aroma. A small amount of minerality makes it easy to drink, especially when it's well-chilled. You can easily pick up aromas and flavors of yellow apples, pears, apricots, and banana notes.
7. Service conditions:
This wine is well-known as a refreshing summer wine or a year-round aperitif. Serve at 6-8 degrees Celsius.
8. Strength: 11%
9. Price: 1200-1500
10. Where to buy: Metro, Peremoga, and wine stores
PackagingThe bottle is a beautiful and minimalist 750ml design. The black label with Tiffany-style stripes looks great. I usually buy it without a box, as I don't see the point in buying one just to throw it away. If you're planning to give it as a gift, a box is a nice touch.
Zonin ProseccoOn the back of the bottle, you can find all the information you need - taste characteristics, grape region, production year, and more. It looks very nice and presentable, without any annoying colors or weird designs.
The cap is, of course, a standard cap, but it's nicely designed to match the overall aesthetic.
About the Producer and the WineZonin is a family-owned winery that's been perfecting their craft for seven generations since 1821. They're the top producer in Italy and the only Italian company with a vineyard outside of the country, on the eastern coast of America. With a focus on quality and a passion for winemaking, the Zonin family has made it their mission to preserve the natural essence of every grape.
The grapes for this wine are sourced from the Veneto region in Italy, which is the birthplace of Prosecco. The grape variety is Glera, also known as Prosecco. Interestingly, the name 'Prosecco' used to refer to both the grape and the wine, but now it's specifically used for the wine.
This Prosecco from Zonin has a DOC designation.
DOC stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata, which means that the wine's origin is controlled. Most high-quality Italian wines fall into this category, as they meet strict requirements for territory of origin, grape variety, winemaking methods, and alcohol content. Before being awarded this prestigious label, wines undergo a rigorous tasting process.
What else can we learn from the label?
I'll start with the year. This Prosecco is made using the Charmat method, where secondary fermentation takes place in a large tank before bottling, rather than in the bottle itself. This means that the wine starts to age as soon as it's bottled, and it's generally recommended to drink it within 2 years. In my case, this wine is about 1.5 years old, which is still considered young.
Next up is Spumante. In Italian, Spumante means 'effervescent' or 'sparkling.' This indicates that the pressure in the bottle is over 3 atmospheres, making it a full-fledged sparkling wine. As you can see from the photo, the bubbles are light and delicate. Since the carbonation process is natural, the bubbles rise continuously from the bottom of the glass (unlike cheaper imitations of champagne).
Brut. This refers to the level of sugar in the wine.
According to EU classification, this means that the wine contains less than 15 grams of sugar per liter.
This wine isn't too sweet, but it's not tart either.
Color, Aroma, Taste, and All ThatMy impressions differ slightly from the wine's description, so I'll just share my own experiences.
So, the color is a pale golden hue, almost transparent, with a hint of cool, wheat-like undertones.
Zonin Prosecco ReviewsThe bubbles, as I mentioned earlier, are very delicate, small, lively, and continuous.
I've got to say, the aroma of this Prosecco is amazing - it's like a mix of fresh fruit and nothing else. I agree with the description of the smell being like yellow apples and pears, but I also get a hint of citrus and a barely perceptible hint of something herbal. To be honest, I'm still getting over my sinus infection, so I'm not entirely sure what the full character of the smell and taste is.
The taste is incredibly delicate, especially for someone like me who's not a big fan of acidic drinks. It's refreshing, but not in a crazy way. It's really subtle.
Zonin Prosecco DOC - a taste of ItalyI think this Prosecco would be perfect for both aperitifs and more substantial meals. We had an Italian feast this year, and it was a huge hit. I was a bit worried it might be too sweet, but it was spot on.
It's not overpowering at all, and the 11% ABV is barely noticeable. Even I was surprised by how easy it is to drink!
Overall, I think it's great value for money. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who likes champagne or sparkling wine, and even to those who don't (like me!). It's got this amazing property of being liked by almost everyone, and I've been buying it for years as a special treat on New Year's Eve. It's perfect for a summer BBQ or a light, refreshing drink any time of the year.
