I've been a loyal customer to Magnit for a while now, but my experience with their loyalty card has been a major letdown. I've signed up for loyalty cards at most of the big retail stores I frequent, and I was excited to try out Magnit's offering. Today, I want to share my thoughts on the Magnit loyalty card. I used to shop at this store almost daily, and slowly accumulated my points. Now, I visit Chizhik more often and I'm waiting for them to launch their own loyalty card.
The Magnit store actually has two types of cards: the old-style Magnit card and the Magnit Plus. Where can you earn points with the Magnit Plus card:
Magnit u doma, hypermarkets Magnit, Magnit-Kosmetik, Magnit-Apteka, supermarkets Magnit Semeyny, Magnit Ekstra, Magnit Moya tsena, Magnit Opt, Magnit Master, Delivery Service, Market Place.
How to get the card.
Getting the Magnit Plus card is relatively straightforward. You can buy a plastic loyalty card at the checkout in a Magnit store, download the Magnit app and sign up for the loyalty card in the app, or wait for a promotion in the store and you'll be offered to sign up for the loyalty card for free at the checkout. I got mine for free during a promotion: buy goods worth 500 rubles and get a free loyalty card.
I lost my first card, then I signed up for a new one at the checkout, but this time it cost 25 rubles. I almost lost the second one too, and I decided to download the Magnit app and register a virtual card. It's so convenient: it's always in my phone. Just don't forget your phone at home and make sure your phone has a signal when you're in the store, so you can load the card. Now I don't carry the plastic card with me.
Once you have your plastic card, you need to register it. You can do this by sending an SMS to the short number 9002, which is listed on the card, with your card number, name, and birthdate. You can also register through the operator by calling 8-800-200-90-02. Or, you can do it on the Magnit website or in the Magnit app.
How to use it.
Using the Magnit Plus card is easy. Just show your plastic card to the cashier every time you visit a Magnit store. The cashier will scan the code on the card, and you'll earn rewards.
To use your virtual card, log in to the app and tap the code at the top. A big code will appear, which you need to show to the cashier.
Down below, you can also check all your cards. If you, like me, have multiple cards, all your plastic cards linked to your phone number will be linked to your virtual card as well. Rewards will be accumulated on your shared account.
How many rewards do they give.
The Magnit bonus program is pretty sneaky: the more you spend, the more rewards you get. There are a few levels to earn rewards. The level resets every month, so to get the next level, you need to make purchases in the current month.
The first level is the starting point. You'll earn just 0.5% of the total bill. This level is triggered when you buy gift cards or if your purchases last month were under 5,000 rubles. The second level earns you 1% of your purchases. You need to spend between 5,000 to 10,000 rubles last month or buy 50 to 100 different items.
The third level earns you 2% of your purchases. You need to spend 10,000 rubles or more last month or buy 100 or more different items. In the app, you can check how much more you need to spend to unlock the next level.
Important: the total amount that earns rewards can't include items on sale or with discounts. This condition is pretty tricky, as there are many sales and discounts in stores. Looking at my rewards, I see I've made many purchases, but earned zero rewards.
For example, a 1,600-ruble purchase earned me nothing. That's great. I'll be saving up for a long time. If I used to shop at Magnet every two days and earn some small rewards, now I earn almost nothing.
Rewards aren't earned on tobacco products or devices for them either.
How to spend your rewards.
Showing the loyalty card to the cashier before payment and asking them to apply the rewards is a breeze. You can use rewards to pay up to 50% of your purchase amount. 1 reward = 1 ruble.
What the loyalty card offers.
1) rewards from purchases that you can use to pay for part of your next purchases. 2) discounts on specific items. Some items have discounts only available through the loyalty card. Discounts usually last for a week.
4) increased rewards on specific categories of items. You can choose categories. You can choose up to 3 categories at a time. They also give you increased rewards for purchases on your birthday, 3 days before, and 3 days after. That's + 2% rewards.

5) increased rewards on specific items if you join clubs in the app.

6) getting electronic magnets and using them to get discounts on specific items. For example, they're currently selling dishes at a discount.
How long do rewards last.
12 months from your last purchase. So, the validity of all rewards is extended by 12 months from the date of your last purchase.
My impressions.
If you like shopping at Magnit and you make frequent purchases, it's worth getting this loyalty card, as the more you buy, the more rewards you'll get. I've realized that if I don't make regular purchases, my level will drop again and the bonuses will be almost worthless.
Before, I used to shop only at Magnit and the bonuses would slowly accumulate. Now, I only go shopping once a week or less often, so the new bonus earnings are basically nothing. Looking at the February earnings, it's not a fortune, but it's something.
Now, I want to shop less often, and here are the June earnings. I spent around 1600 rubles, but there are no bonus earnings. In the app, I can check the items I bought, but it doesn't indicate whether they were on sale or not, so I can't check the bonus earnings.
Keeping track of each item before buying is a hassle, and I end up getting frustrated. Basically, this card doesn't help me save much, and I won't be able to accumulate much with it.
One thing that's somewhat redeeming is that 1 bonus equals 1 ruble. For example, at Pyaterochka, 10 points equal 1 ruble.
You can also read the full rules for bonus accrual and redemption. There are some interesting points, like the fact that if you used a social pension card during a purchase, you can't redeem bonus points from that purchase.
Another thing is that you can only redeem bonus points when the total bonus amount on your card is over 20 points. There are many hidden pitfalls, usually not in favor of the customers.
Tip
I'd recommend attaching 5 plastic cards to one virtual card, and then giving each family member their own plastic card attached to the same virtual card. This way, we can all accumulate points on one account, and get a higher level next month.
My Verdict.
For me, this card is completely useless right now. After spending 3,000 rubles in June, I've earned a whopping 0.9 bonus points. That's just laughable. The only redeeming quality for me is getting discounts on sale items. Since most sales are reserved for loyalty card holders, I don't really benefit from that.
My review of the Diksi card, which is still the most rewarding card compared to other stores, can be found here.
