JP. Chenet Rosé Medium Sweet Moelleux: A Refreshing Springtime Wine
I've been a loyal fan of JP. Chenet wines for a while now, and their rosé medium sweet Moelleux is still one of my go-to choices, despite some quality issues over time. To be honest, the taste hasn't gotten any better, but it's not bad enough to make me switch.
Every spring, I crave something light and romantic, and for me, that's always a rosé wine – whether it's still or sparkling, it doesn't matter. When I wanted to celebrate a special occasion, my partner and I decided to try the Rosé medium sweet JP. Chenet Moelleux, which we picked up at Lenta for 900 rubles. That's a pretty standard price for a decent bottle of wine, and you can't guarantee a good quality wine at that price. When it comes to choosing wine, you've got to rely on your personal taste and familiarity with the brand.
The wine comes in a transparent glass bottle with an unusual shape – that's a signature design for JP. Chenet. The bottle's neck is slightly tilted, and there's a small notch on the side for your thumb. That's designed to make it easy to pour the wine, holding the bottle by the base. Your thumb fits perfectly into the notch.
The packaging is nice and simple, with a subtle rose-colored theme – it's been the same for a while now.
I chose this particular wine because it's made from grapes harvested in 2021. I saw some 2024 vintage options on the shelf, but I figured that the older the wine, the better – although I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to wine quality and harvest years.
The wine has a medium level of alcohol – the sweeter the wine, the higher the ABV.
This wine is made from a blend of Grenache and Sémillon grapes.
When I write reviews about wine, I always check out the grape varieties and the region where it's produced. It's actually really interesting – you get this little history lesson, and you start to appreciate the wine in a different way. The grapes that go into your glass have a story behind them, and you're just drinking and enjoying it without realizing the history and effort that went into creating that taste.
The grapes are grown in the Pays d'Oc region, which borders the Mediterranean Sea and spans across four departments in Languedoc-Roussillon. The abundance of sunlight in this area allows for the production of very aromatic wines with a unique richness.
The bottle cap is wrapped in a grey, hermetic plastic film.
The cap turned out to be plastic. The surface has the manufacturer's name and emblem printed on it.
The cap was removed with a bit of effort and a quiet pop. A small stream of smoke came out of the bottle.
The wine's color is too intense and pretty for a rosé. It's more coral with a yellowish tint. Normally, rosé wines are so pale, but this one has a raspberry hue.
The wine has a pleasant fruity and berry aroma, and I also detect floral notes. The wine is aromatic, sweet with a barely perceptible dry acidity.
The wine has a light effervescence, with small air bubbles settling on the sides of the glass.
We drank the wine slightly chilled, and after opening the bottle, we let it breathe for a bit.
The wine has a light, gentle, and balanced taste, with just the right amount of sweetness. The acidity is fresh and pleasant. The dry aftertaste has a berry-like acidity.
The wine is not strong at all, with no noticeable alcohol presence in the aroma or taste.
The wine pairs well with light meat appetizers, cheese, sweet berries, and genuine desserts.
The wine is easy to drink without food, making it a great aperitif.
The wine intoxicates you just right, with a pleasant warmth spreading through your body, but no hangover.
No headache or unpleasant sensations in the stomach after drinking the wine, and no hangover either.
I really enjoyed the Rosé wine JP. Chenet Medium Sweet Moelleux. It's a light, crisp, slightly sweet wine with a fruity tanginess. It's super refreshing and the flavor is pretty balanced, with no harsh spirits to speak of.
If I'm being honest, this wine reminds me of spring. There's just something about it that feels like a breath of fresh air.
I think it's a great wine to enjoy any time of year, but it's especially perfect for spring. It pairs really well with light bites and fresh fruit, but I'd avoid it with rich desserts or chocolate.
We didn't quite finish the bottle in one night, but after a day or two in the fridge, it seemed to come alive. The flavors got a bit more complex and it even got a bit sweeter. By day two, it was a whole new wine!
If you're a fan of rosé wines, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a try. The flavor is unique and the color is gorgeous. That's what I love about it.
Thanks for reading my review!
