A Gym That's Really Got Its Act Together

summarizeEditor's Summary

I ditched Alex-Fitness and joined Boteq after a month of workouts. The compact fitness area is a total game changer – everything's within easy reach, and you'll never have to wait in line. The solarium and room for group fitness classes are awesome additions. Boteq's got a great balance of equipment and amenities, making it a solid choice for anyone looking for a convenient gym experience. The cafe's a nice touch, too, serving up protein-rich treats and coffee without ruining your diet. To be honest, I'm really impressed with the value for money at Boteq – it's worth every penny.

I ditched Alex-Fitness and joined Boteq after a month of workouts. So, here are my honest thoughts on this new gym.
Fitness Area: A Compact But Convenient Space
The fitness area isn't the biggest, but I love how compact it is. Everything is within easy reach, and you'll never have to wait in line – a huge plus in my book. There are two rooms for strength training: the lower room's for free weights, and the upper room's for machine-based exercises. Plus, there's a cardio area with an elliptical, treadmills, and stationary bikes. Just be prepared for a wait for the bikes, though – they're super popular.
The solarium and room for group fitness classes are awesome additions. It's a nice touch that there's always water available in the cooler. If you want to grab a bite before or after your workout, the cafe's open, serving protein-rich treats and coffee without ruining your diet.
The relaxation area near the gym hall is perfect for waiting out your workout or just unwinding.
I've got to rave about the locker rooms in this gym. After my nightmare at Alex-Fitness, I'm thoroughly impressed. You'll be asked to leave your membership card and pick up a key for your locker – it's a great system that saves you time searching for an empty locker amidst the crowds. Plus, the locker rooms are spacious, well-lit, and comfortable. The same goes for the toilets – clean, cozy, and functional.
The spa area is dimly lit, so don't worry about your post-workout glow. You'll need to shower before entering the pool, which is a must.
In the spa area, you'll find several saunas, an infrared sauna, a hammam, a large whirlpool bath, a phyto-bar, and, of course, the pool. It's not super deep, about 140 cm, but long enough. The blue lighting is a nice touch. They also offer aqua aerobics classes at scheduled times – check the schedule to catch one.
I was thrilled to find a bowl of ice near the pool. After a sauna session, you can grab a handful of ice and splash your face – pure bliss!
One major plus for Boteq is that they cater to seniors by offering affordable morning membership cards. So, if you're a morning person, you might encounter a crowd of seniors in the spa area before 12 pm. I prefer to go at a different time, when it's a bit quieter.
The Good Stuff: What I Love About Boteq
The compact fitness area is always convenient, and you'll never have to wait in line. The cardio area is well-equipped with an elliptical, treadmills, and stationary bikes. The locker rooms are spacious, comfortable, and have a great system for locker access. The toilets are clean, cozy, and functional. The spa area is a highlight, with several saunas, an infrared sauna, a hammam, a large whirlpool bath, and a phyto-bar. Boteq offers affordable morning membership cards for seniors. There's always water available in the cooler. The cafe serves protein-rich treats and coffee. The relaxation area near the gym hall is perfect for waiting out your workout.
The Not-So-Good Stuff: Areas for Improvement
The open shower stalls with no doors can be a letdown for those who value their privacy. Hangers are scarce in the shower area, and sometimes you might not find one when you need it. The membership card cost three times as much as it did at Alex-Fitness, which is a bit of a shock. The location is a bit of a trek along Dachnaya Street, and the sidewalk can be slippery or uneven, especially in the rain. The chlorine levels in the pool are quite high, which can be uncomfortable for those who are sensitive.
Overall, I'm impressed with Boteq's strengths, but there are a few areas for improvement. If you're looking for a convenient and well-equipped gym with a great spa area, Boteq might be the perfect choice for you.
