Hello!
My kid's been wanting to read detective stories, so I've been trying to support them with some great series like Katya Matyushkina's.
Last summer, our teacher gave us a list of literature, but hinted that what really matters is regular reading, not the specific book. Of course, not comic books, but longer stories. So, we ended up with a bunch of different books at home. Some just sit there, and I still hope my kid will come back to them. Others are read in one or two days. I've even started reading children's literature before bed to unwind, and I'd be happy to share my thoughts too.
Today, I want to talk about Влипсики Восстание корней. Катя Матюшкина
Влипсики Восстание корней
☆ MAIN POINTS
Genre: Children's detective, adventure, humor.
Target audience: Kids in lower grades
Влипсики Восстание корней
☆ SUMMARY
Deep in the forest, the little human-like creatures, Влипсики, live happily in their magical tree. But then the Opilochy sorcerer appears and makes a terrible prophecy. Will their beloved home really disappear? Not on our watch! To save their tree, the brave Влипсики embark on a perilous journey. However, not all of them are on the side of good: the former bandits, Хряпсик and Дундук, have a clever plan to start a real war.
We've already read many books by this author, and I love how easy they are to read, the design, and the bright illustrations. And, of course, the stories themselves.
Детская литература
Recently, I got excited about this book and someone told me I should have read Влипсики. Древесный призрак first. Each book can be read on its own, so it doesn't matter to me, but I do want to read them all.
I've already written reviews for:
Веники Еловые или Приключения Вани в лаптях и сарафане
Укуси вампира!
And, it has some fun tasks too. Like solving a puzzle, drawing something, or decoding a message.

Детская литература
I love the counting game that the kids enjoy so much, or rather, they need to remember their own and complete the task.
Roots Uprising
I remember we had a secret code in school too.
Roots Uprising
I want to highlight the pictures again. They're fun, visual, and colorful.
Children's Literature Children's Literature I know some people might complain that the text gets lost or is too short in the book. I'm not sure, but for an 8-year-old, it's just right. My son doesn't get tired of reading it; he takes a break and looks at the characters. The book has many chapters and at least 160-180 pages from the author.
Roots Uprising
The author sometimes uses poems, and they're actually quite helpful for learning.
Children's Literature
I like how the book is designed; my son laughed a lot looking at each room.

PLOT
The plot is interesting and unusual. There are these little people who live on a tree and walk on it without falling thanks to a special device. I won't tell you what it is, but it's a secret.
As it's supposed to be in fairy tales, there are good and bad characters.
One day, the Sawdust Sorcerer showed up and really shook things up for the heroes.
Children's Literature
It turns out they have a secret entrance ... and I won't tell you what it is. The heroes' adventures are both scary and fun, but the most important thing is to fight for their home and not give up. It teaches family values, friendship, healthy social relationships, and trying to find answers.
Roots Uprising
The text is simple for me, but for kids under 10, it's just right, so they get hooked. If a child is just learning to read, it might be a great motivator...
My son reads it with enthusiasm; sometimes he finishes it in two hours, and I'm like, "It's too fast!"
Book prices are a luxury now, and I'm definitely not ready to get the kids used to e-books. The tactile experience, the smell of paper, the atmosphere, and so on...
I think I'll revisit this in a year or so and read it again when my kid's at the pre-teen stage.
MY TAKEAWAYS
- It's perfect for reading outside of class or on your own
- The detective stories are so engaging, they'll keep you guessing and imagining
- The characters are sweet and lovable
- The writing style is easy to follow
- There are some hilarious moments
- The colorful illustrations are a bonus

A review of Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile, a great example of her style, but a bit predictable and lacking in character development.
