A Delightful Historical Romance Set in Old London

summarizeEditor's Summary

I stumbled upon Chronicles of Amanita Kramb, a historical romance novel, while browsing the library's new releases section. The 2022 edition, published by Exmo, caught my eye with its substantial 700 pages. Although I found some typos and formatting errors, the layout is nice with chapter divisions and a standard font size. The story takes place in late 19th-century London, and I was drawn in by the author's vivid descriptions of the city's streets and landmarks. The romance between the main characters was sweet and believable, and I appreciated the attention to historical detail, which added depth to the story. However, the pacing could be a bit inconsistent at times, and some of the supporting characters felt a bit one-dimensional. Overall, I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction and romance.

I stumbled upon Chronicles of Amanita Kramb, a historical romance novel by German author Lin Rina, and I couldn't resist diving into its pages. I'd seen this book mentioned before, maybe on a 'top books' list or something (its title stuck with me, and I mentally noted that I wanted to read it someday).

Book Description:
Chronicles of Amanita Kramb - What the book is about The story takes place in late 19th-century England. The atmosphere is really cozy and inviting, partly because the main character, Amanita Kramb, loves reading. As someone who also enjoys reading and visiting libraries, the novel immediately won me over. According to the plot, the girl heads to London to become the assistant librarian to Mr. Rida, who has a reputation for being a difficult person to work with. Rumors claim that he's a harsh man and a bit of a bully, and that none of his previous assistants have lasted more than a few days on the job.
Chronicles of Amanita Kramb - A brief summary The writing is decent, but the pacing is a bit slow. We're introduced to the world and characters over an extended period, which gives us a good understanding of Amanita's situation. Her mother is eager to marry her off, as Amanita is now 19 and has turned down several suitors. To escape the constant pressure from her mother, Amanita agrees to work in London, hoping to find some peace and quiet.
Book Chronicles of Animant Crumb: Reviews on the Book I have to admit, Animant used to get on my nerves. She always thought she was better than everyone else, what with all the books she'd read and the guys who couldn't measure up to her. She was a total snob, and she never seemed to notice her own high-handedness and coarseness. But I did appreciate how the author developed the character, showing her gradually realizing that she was being a bit too condescending. Mister Rid was the opposite, though. From the start, he was gruff and cold, but then he underwent a transformation for the better, losing none of his charm and sardonic outlook on life.
Book Chronicles of Animant Crumb The book has plenty of other characters, too. For instance, Animant meets Mister Boyle, who initially seemed like the epitome of charm but was then quickly written out of the story. We also get to know Eliza, who befriends Animant and becomes her confidante. Lin Rina has even written a second book set in the same universe, but with Eliza as the main character. I'm not interested in reading that one, though - I just didn't find Eliza that compelling a character.
The Book Chronicles of Animate Crab book reviewThe Book Chronicles of Animate Crab is a romance novel set against the backdrop of old London. I swear, the library looked just like that – all those endless shelves, old books, and stairs, minus the weird old car with tons of levers. And, of course, I loved reading about her first love. Those scenes were so natural and romantic, I was totally swept up! I'm all about beautiful love stories without all the drama, and this one's a perfect example. Back then, it wasn't exactly easy for the characters to be alone or get close to each other, but the author did a great job of putting them in awkward situations that made me curious. I even found myself chuckling at Mr. Read's sarcastic smirks and Animate's tantrums over some minor issue, calling him a nasty oaf.
The Book Chronicles of Animate Crab Lin RinaIt's true that the novel sometimes felt a bit too innocent, but the 16+ rating hinted that things wouldn't get too out of hand. This is just a sweet, predictable love story with a happy ending, but it's still engaging and cozy. I thought I'd be reading this book for ages, but I ended up devouring it in no time, and I didn't even mind its size – I carried it everywhere, even to my daughter's gymnastics classes. I had an hour to get back into the atmospheric London setting and laugh at the next confrontation between the leads. I felt like I was observing the whole scene from the sidelines, and I didn't want it to end!
Book Chronicles of Animant Kramb ReviewsOh, how I missed those kinds of stories in the style of 'from hatred to love', where there's no room for filth, profanity, or graphic descriptions of intimate scenes. It's pure romance, the author does a great job describing the feelings of being in love, which even made me get goosebumps sometimes, it was that beautifully written. Too bad we only read from the main character's perspective and don't know anything about how Mr. Reid felt (which is pretty obvious, but still, I wanted to read about that too).
But I know Lin Rina wrote another book, supposedly a continuation of this work. I googled it and understood that it's more of a sequel, so I probably won't be actively looking for it, but if I stumble upon it in the library, I'll definitely pick it up (I was only interested in one chapter, though :)).
Lin Rina BooksBook Chronicles of Animant Kramb is a beautiful love story with a unique atmosphere of old London. Yeah, there are some downsides, like the main character being super annoying with her entitlement, but I still really enjoyed what I read!I highly recommend it to historical romance fans.
