I recently gave Viscca a try, a cat food that's been getting a lot of airtime on TV. The slogan 'Your kitty would buy Viscca' caught my attention, but I have to say, my cat wasn't impressed.
I try to stick to homemade cat food as much as possible, but sometimes I'm stuck with commercial stuff when I'm away on business. That's exactly what happened here - I bought Viscca, and my cat ended up not liking it.
Let's get real for a second. I don't blame my cat for not liking it. The packaging is pretty small, 85g, and easy to open, but that's about it.
I chose the gel with salmon, thinking it would be a hit with my cat. She doesn't eat in sauces or stews, so I stuck with what she likes.
The packaging is pretty straightforward - it says 'at least 80% meat and fish ingredients in every piece' in big letters. Sounds promising, right? But you can't take it at face value.
You need to read the ingredients first. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a pain to read - the packaging is metallic, and the text is in black ink. I had to use a magnifying glass to read it clearly. Sorry for the blurry photos - the focus wasn't great, and the flash went off.
The ingredients are pretty standard - meat and offal, fish (including salmon, at least 4%), grains, taurine, vitamins, and minerals. But how much meat is really in there for the price? Plus the markup, packaging, and employee salaries... that's what I was thinking.
It says 'No preservatives, no flavor enhancers, no additives' in big letters on the packaging. Sounds good, but I'm not convinced.
The contents of the pack reminded me of bloated dry cat food in a gel. But maybe that's what cats like...
My cat sniffed it for a while, then started pawing at it - didn't like it. She licked the gel a bit and walked away. Safety date checked - all good, but she wasn't interested.
It also says how many packs to feed per day - four for an adult cat, five to six for a pregnant one, and five to six or more for a nursing cat. I was horrified. I'd only consider feeding my cat these packs in extreme cases, but not in such quantities!
I didn't force my cat to try Visca. Although she does eat other liquid food brands. Food for thought.

MINUSES (my opinion)
- my cat wouldn't eat it - that's the main issue

VERDICT: my Kiska wouldn't buy Visca and wouldn't recommend it to you either.
