My Mixed Experience with Ultrasonic Mice Repellents: Are They Worth the Hype?
I've got a confession to make: mice are my constant companions. I live in a dacha and also reside in a Stalin-era apartment on the first floor. This combo is a recipe for disaster, and I'm afraid I can't imagine my daily life without these furry critters.
Many people who don't deal with mice on a daily basis adore them, even keeping them as pets. I'm not sure what to do with mine, though – having unwanted roommates leads to some pretty dire consequences: infections, property damage, feces everywhere, root system damage to plants and veggies, eaten food storage, and more.
I even know some friends who ended up in the hospital with infections, courtesy of mice. They spent time in the ICU on IV drips.
So, what's the point of all this? Here's the thing...
If you've got mice in your home, take action immediately to get rid of them! They're not harmless little creatures – they're disease-carrying pests.

DESCRIPTION FROM THE MANUFACTURER.
This ultrasonic mouse repellent is an effective way to protect your home or apartment from unwanted pests. It uses innovative technology to keep mice, rodents, insects (cockroaches, flies, mosquitoes, moths, and spiders) at bay.
The device works by emitting ultrasonic waves that are undetectable to humans but unpleasant for mice and insects. This creates an uncomfortable sensation that prompts them to leave your space. So, you can get rid of mice, rats, and other pests without using harsh chemicals or pesticides. It's perfect for use in your home, on your dacha, or in your apartment.
I have to say, the manufacturer is pretty optimistic about its product's capabilities. According to them, it can handle a wide range of pests (cockroaches, flies, mosquitoes, moths, mice...).
Personally, I didn't notice any significant effects on my living space.
Usage.
The device works from a standard power outlet and consumes very little energy. For maximum effectiveness, I recommend keeping it on for at least 3-4 weeks. The device's range is 200 meters on an open space. One unit can effectively cover an area of 40-80 square meters.
Safety Precautions.
According to the manufacturer, this device is completely safe for humans and domestic animals, including cats and dogs.
My personal experience.
I was convinced that this device (ultrasonic mouse repellent) would help me 100%, so I bought it without hesitation.
I had a very successful experience using ultrasonic repellent for moles in the garden; there are no moles on the plot. And I drew a logical conclusion that if it's so effective outdoors, I'd get an astonishing result indoors.
I bought the device for use in an apartment.
What the device worked against!
I live in a Stalin-era building on the first floor. The house is made of brick with wooden floorboards, and the floor is covered with vintage parquet flooring in a herringbone pattern. As a result, there are gaps between the walls and the floorboards that mice can use to get into the apartment.
In general, I'm not complaining and don't see anything terrible about it: I've learned to deal with "guests" using various methods, including mousetraps, glue traps, and watchdogs.
However, due to family circumstances, I've been away from the apartment for a long time (about 1 year), and it's been mostly empty. This led to a geometric increase in the mouse population. My tried-and-tested methods weren't effective, so I had to buy ultrasonic mouse repellent devices.
I tested it for 2 months.
Now, let's move on to the conclusions I drew for myself:
First off, I bought two of these devices, even though one 63-square-meter apartment would've been enough for me. I placed one in the entryway and the other in a room. One of them just sat there doing nothing for an entire month, though.
Secondly, I'm pretty sure this device just isn't very effective at getting rid of pests, because I had a bunch of mice running around my place for two whole months without any issues. It wasn't until I brought in the big guns (poison, glue traps) that their numbers started to dwindle. If I hadn't done that, I shudder to think how bad it would've gotten.
My verdict? This device doesn't work very well on its own.
The ultrasonic mouse repellent has some good qualities:
It's affordable,It uses a tiny amount of electricity,It's compact,It's safe,And you don't have to deal with dead mice, they just leave on their own.But all those positives get overshadowed by its biggest flaw: it just doesn't work.
Results.
I'm not happy with the ultrasonic mouse repellent for a few reasons:
It takes way too long to get any results (about a month), and even then, they're pretty low-key;You can't just use this thing and expect to get rid of all the mice; you'll need to bring in some extra help;It doesn't get hot when it's in use, but I'm still a little worried about leaving it on for more than a week.In my case, this ultrasound device for mice was pretty much useless. I'd have lost the battle to those pesky critters if I didn't have other options. Yeah, other methods have their downsides, but the main one is cleaning up the bodies. Still, they get the job done quickly and efficiently.
I'm not sure if I'd recommend it or not. Honestly, if I knew the outcome beforehand, I'd never have bought it.
I wouldn't recommend it! Check out these alternatives instead:
