🥤Synopsis:
Russia, late 19th century. In the midst of war with Britain, a mysterious device - a mechanical flea - is discovered in the imperial palace. The investigation is assigned to young officer Peter Ogarev, who dreams of earning the emperor's trust. As he searches for the truth, he teams up with Levsha - a brilliant but forgotten master from Tula. Together, they delve into a world of intrigue and danger. To uncover the conspiracy, they must challenge the system, unravel family secrets, and make a difficult choice between duty and conscience. The fate of the country and their own destinies hang in the balance.
🥤Cast and characters.
Yuri Kolokolnikov - Levsha. I was a bit disappointed with this casting choice. The actor is good, but he doesn't quite fit the character of Captain Krukov. And the whole setting feels like a dungeon. It's just not his role, no matter how you look at it.
Fyodor Fedotov - Ogarev. I really liked this young actor. He plays a naive but determined man who believes in the power of truth and is willing to stand up for what he believes in. He's also quite dashing in his uniform.
Leone Manturova - Tatiana. I'm still trying to figure out what this character was supposed to be about. Maybe they just wanted to add some eye candy to the movie with a pretty girl and some nice costumes. Spies just aren't her thing, and the romance was basically nonexistent.
But in the duet, the actors looked great on screen.
Yan Tsapnik - Nosdrin and Alexei Gusev - Uncle Ogarev. I thought these veteran actors would bring some serious depth to the movie. But instead, they're just a bunch of ministers hanging around the tsar and pretending to be concerned about his safety. It's a pretty weak role, but the actors did their best.
Arthur Ivanov - Alexander III. He nailed the tsar's character, maybe a bit on the heavier side. But he carries himself with dignity and it's nice to look at him on screen. There aren't many scenes with him, but it's worth watching for the visuals alone.
Action.
The action scenes are all over the place, making it hard to follow what's going on. Apparently, Britain is planning to attack Russia and they're sending spies everywhere, using some pretty wild methods of surveillance that I'm pretty sure wouldn't even work today. It's got some of the same spy elements as the original novel, though.
I was excited to see how the game would bring the city and rural surroundings to life. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended.
This feels like a spy blockbuster with a fantastical twist. I fell asleep during the first part, waiting for the action to kick in, but it was slow and dull. There's no humor in the dialogue, and the action is non-existent. Who's this movie for? The only fantasy element is a pesky bug, and a few lines of dialogue. As an adult, I found this film boring, and the combination of Star Wars-style guns with Leshy just doesn't work. And for kids, there's no hero to root for or relate to. Compared to Volchok, this film is a total bust.
