I have to admit, our cat's had some pretty weird quirks from the get-go. Apparently, my husband found him on the side of the road when he was just three years old (that's what the vet told us), and he's always been a bit of a scaredy-cat. He's super curious, but he's always trying to make a break for it. As he's gotten older, though, some other strange behaviors have started to pop up. On the bright side, he's ridiculously clean and always uses his litter box. One thing that's always struck me is how little he likes to play. He's not really into toys or games, but he loves to just chill out and be around people.Well, we already had a cat when this kitten arrived. And if you compare their intelligence, our cat is basically a Nobel laureate! Right off the bat, I'll say that we don't hit animals if we need to scold them, we just raise our voice or grab a water pistol. But our cat was fine with just hearing the word 'no', and she'd immediately... start dancing like crazy. The one thing she did remember was that she wasn't allowed on the table where we eat or cook. By the way, we took the kitten from the trash because it was clearly someone's stray or abandoned pet. It was huge, fat, and clean, unlike those street cats. I had to convince my husband to take it home for months, and finally, after a month, he agreed and brought the kitten home. Now the cat thinks my husband is its savior, and it just won't leave his side. We had the kitten neutered and took it to the vet for a check-up. Our cat ignored the kitten for the first three years, and the kitten would try to sleep next to her. Then, one day, the cat finally realized that the kitten wasn't going anywhere, and she started attacking it. Ever since then, the kitten hasn't slept next to her, and whenever she approaches, it scowls and hides. Although, sometimes they do hang out together by the window. We also set up separate bowls for their wet food and one bowl for their dry food. This guy is the most persistent beggar I've ever seen! In my life, I've never met a cat as annoying as this one. Our cat is much more subtle - if she wants food, she'll follow me everywhere and lead me to the fridge (where the food is stored), and if we're eating meat, she'll just sit nearby and quietly wait. The kitten, on the other hand, won't stop crying, rubbing against us, trying to reach the table with its claws, and making this weird, gurgling noise like a drain, not a cat. It won't stop until it gets food.
Our cat is a big boy, tipping the scales at around 7 kg, give or take. His standard weight is 6.6 kg, but he's managed to balloon up to 8 kg on occasion - usually after a sneaky de-worming session courtesy of his favorite human. I'm the one who usually handles that task, but our cat's got a great sense of betrayal, and he'll go on a feeding frenzy whenever he feels wronged. Normally, we stick to dry food, and I supplement with a bit of wet food every 1.5 days or so. But during this particular incident, our cat just wouldn't stop eating, and I couldn't refill the bowl fast enough. He even started helping himself to table scraps, including carrots and salmon - a food combination he's never shown any interest in before! He's also stopped coming to his favorite human for cuddles. This was a first for us, and it took a couple of hours of gentle petting and reassurance from his human to win him back over. Since then, we've learned to give him some extra TLC after any, ahem, 'medical procedures'. As for his eating habits, I have to admit that I'm a bit biased - I've got an idealized image of the perfect cat in my head. But if I'm being completely honest, our cat's antics have put me off getting another cat anytime soon. He's a handful, to say the least. Every day brings a new surprise - whether it's a midnight howl fest, a midnight raid on the closet, or a midnight escape attempt. And don't even get me started on the time he managed to get his paws on a shashlik and a plate, and proceeded to destroy both before I even knew what was happening...I'm not saying I don't love him, because I do - he's like a mischievous little kid who's always getting into trouble. But if I ever do decide to get another cat, it'll be a Siberian or a Neva Masquerade - those breeds just seem more laid-back and easy-going, you know? But until then, I'll just have to keep dealing with our cat's unique brand of chaos.
My cat is a total social butterfly - he always runs to the door when we have guests over, which I'm not a huge fan of. I mean, he's super affectionate with them, especially the guys. But when it's just the two of us, he's a complete loner. When we're away on vacation, our friends will come over to visit the cats every day, but it's clear they're just as bored as we are. And when we get back, our cat goes into overdrive - he's always hissing at my husband, especially when he tries to pick him up. First thing he does is jump onto his lap and start grooming his face, and suddenly he's the most affectionate cat in the world.
I've got a cat that's always on the lookout for adventure, and he's got a bit of a reputation for being scared of just about everything. But every time he's faced with something that might spook him, he'll puff out his chest and make a run for it. It's pretty entertaining to watch.
When we first got him, our neighbors told us that he's a frequent visitor to the fire pond, where he likes to sit and stare at the water. And let me tell you, he's not exactly a skilled hunter - he's more like a laid-back explorer. At 14 years young, he's had his fair share of mishaps. A mouse once bit him, crows tried to steal his tail, and he lost a tooth in a fight with a neighbor's cat. He's even had his nose scratched, eye scratched, ear torn, and a paw injury that needed stitches. You'd think he'd be a bit more cautious, but he's always up for a challenge. He's been to the vet more times than I've been to the doctor, and he's never brought back a single dead bird. By the way, our cats are spayed or neutered, but our outdoor cat has a special friend - a female cat who comes to visit him. They'll spend hours lounging under a bush together, and it's adorable to watch. And the best part? They're both spayed or neutered, so I'm not sure what they're doing out there. But what's even more puzzling is that our indoor cat is actually afraid of him. When they're out on the property, our cats like to roam around, and if our female cat is with someone or just sleeping at home, she's always a bit anxious to be outside alone. She's so small, weighing less than 3 kg, and I'm always worried that a bird might swoop down and grab her. But our male cat is a total free spirit - he can't be kept indoors. He's just too curious and loves to explore.>
Our cat loves the outdoors the most – he's got all the space he needs, and he's always eager to make a break for it. But honestly, it drives us crazy. We've got holes drilled under the fence, and the fence is over 2.5 meters high, but he's managed to find ways to climb up a tree, jump onto the shed, then onto the neighbor's shed, and off he goes! And get this – he's a high jumper, and with three attempts, he's managed to grab onto the fence with one paw and swing himself over. The worst part is, I always have to catch him and bring him back home, but within 10 minutes, he's back on the fence again. It's like he's got a personal vendetta against the thing.
And to make matters worse, my husband brought him home, and it seems like our cat thinks he's the alpha male now. He only listens to my husband, and no matter how much I call him, he just ignores me. We've had to rescue him from the street a few times, and it's just exhausting.
But despite all the chaos he causes, our cat is actually a really lovable, beautiful, patient, and clean animal. He's a total foodie, and he's always looking for his next adventure. The problem is, he's also super clingy, disobedient, and stubborn. And let's not forget, he's a bit dim-witted – training him is like trying to teach a cat to walk on water. He's got a knack for getting into the same old trouble, like when the crows keep picking at him because he insists on visiting their nest every day. It's like he's saying, 'Hey, I know I'm in trouble, but I just can't help myself!' And the worst part is, he's got this annoying habit of meowing nonstop – it's like he's trying to drive us all crazy.
I've noticed that my cat has a weird habit of forgetting his favorite spots over time. He seems to lose interest in them unless I carry him back to those places, and then he starts sleeping there again. It's also hilarious to see him explore new spots and claim them as his own. Another funny thing about my cat is that he has a special patch of grass at our summer house, and he loves to eat it. But if I pluck some of the grass and show it to him, he'll start eating it from my hands. I have no idea why he does this, but it's always entertaining. It's like he prefers the taste of grass from my hands!
I should mention that my cats aren't interested in eating our houseplants or chewing on cords. They have plenty of scratching posts, so our furniture is safe. We have four litter boxes for our two cats, so they don't fight over who gets to use which one.
I love my cat, but I'm not sure I'd want another one like him. I think I prefer the more laid-back Russian Blue or Siberian breeds. Thanks for sticking with me, and I wish you all the best!
