I recently caught wind of the movie 'The Main Character' and I'm stoked to share my thoughts. I'm not usually a fan of movies based on video games, but this one really piqued my interest.
“Not a good, but a great day!”
I have to admit, at first I thought it was going to be a total waste of time, but I quickly got hooked. The movie turned out to be dynamic, funny, and just plain awesome. It's a great mix of entertainment and substance! I really enjoyed it.
This movie also reminded me of another one of my favorites - it's called The Character, which I highly recommend.
I'm loving the mashup of styles here - it's like a cocktail of The Truman Show, The Matrix, WALL-E, and Ralph. There's a definite leaning towards the humorous side :). Story-wise, we're talking about a super hyped game and artificial intelligence. The main character, an NPC, is the real star of the show. He's a very meta character, and I can see why they wrote him with Ryan Reynolds in mind - he's a bit of a goody-goody. He's got his morning routine down pat - goldfish and coffee, and he's always choosing the high road, consciously choosing to be a good guy. But then he puts on the player's glasses and sees the world for what it really is. Overall, the story is pretty strong and fresh, and it holds up well. It's not just about the game and the AI, but about humanity in a cynical world, with a positive message and a feel-good vibe.
The story arc is predictable and clear from the get-go, so don't expect any unexpected twists or a hard-hitting thriller. This feel-good, popcorn comedy-fantasy just delivers on emotions, offers a chance to unwind, and gives you a clean dose of good cinema. It's a film that'll put a smile on your face, lift your mood, and inspire you to do some good.
Main takeaways from the film -
live in the moment,it's our choices, not circumstances, that define who we are, hero or statistic;we've been playing at being gods, creating games where we need to online kill people, and that's just normal. The most human character turned out to be a non-human. I don't know what we're being prepared for when AI becomes more human-like than people... And we're supposed to believe in that... Guess that's why the film took on a darker tone. What I liked
Unexpected depth. I was expecting a run-of-the-mill action flick, but what I got was a heartwarming story with some serious action. The film's philosophy is all about a fresh perspective on gaming – not just about 'grabbing and killing'. The main character levels up by doing good deeds. It's a concept that could really benefit people in real life. There are nods to other films, but they're tastefully done and don't feel forced or overbearing. The film's portrayal of modern tech bros, led by the corporate villain Antvan, is spot on. He's a ruthless businessman who's more interested in short-term gains than innovation. What didn't impress me
The game's technical aspects didn't let me down. Servers don't need an axe to be taken down, and admins don't need to run around with guns to catch cheaters. The antagonist felt like a cartoonish, one-dimensional boss, just there to hinder the main characters. I would've liked to see more depth to the character. The Americanisms slipped in, and I'm not sure if it's the weird humor or what.I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it's a colorful, enjoyable film worth watching once. After watching it, I felt inspired to be a better person, and that's already a good thing.
I'd recommend it to anyone looking for modern, fun, and engaging cinema that's easy to follow without being too heavy on the plot.
