Hello everyone!
I finally got around to watching the movie everyone's been buzzing about - The Housemaid.
This American thriller, directed by Paul Fieg, is based on the novel by Frieda McFadden.
The lead roles are played by Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and the talented Michele Morrone from the erotic drama 365 Days.
I'll share my thoughts on it below.
Thrillers are one of my favorite movie genres.
I appreciate a good thriller for its non-banal storyline, acting, emotional depth, unpredictability, and logic.
The movie's brief summary:
Millie dreams of starting a new life from scratch and eagerly takes a job as a maid in the luxurious Winchester family estate. But behind closed doors and strange rules, something sinister lurks. As Millie gets closer to the shocking truth, it becomes clear that her own secrets won't remain hidden either.
The movie was released in 2025
The original title is The Housemaid
The movie's duration is around 2 hours

So, we're transported to the luxurious Winchester family estate, where Millie (played by Sydney Sweeney) takes up a job as a maid.

Millie's got a small room on the top floor.
The window there doesn't even open...

Her mood changes every minute from unbearable hospitality to complete anger and hysteria.
Housekeeper movie Best thrillers 🎬Another one would have already run away from such a place, but Millie really needs a job.
And preferably a job with accommodation, as she used to sleep in her car until she moved in with the Winchesters...
Housekeeper 2025 movie reviews🎬Moreover, the homeowner, Andrew, is very fond of the new housekeeper joining their family.
This thing is a total protector and apologist for his wife's hysterical outbursts.
He's just a sweetheart, not a real man.
And to top it off, he's a total charmer
It's hard not to dream about a life of luxury with someone as charming as him.
After all, you can have dinner together (he's always the one to suggest it!).
Or watch a movie together in a relaxed atmosphere
Or go out to a restaurant...
Of course, all of this while his wife is blissfully unaware of what's going on.
And let's not forget his mom - she's no ordinary woman, always reminding him of his privileges.
Have you ever stopped to think about what it means to have nice dishes, a beautiful smile, and nice hair?
From a young age, kids are taught that these are privileges, and they're put front and center in life.
And heaven forbid they ever lose any of these privileges...
I've gotta say, this story's got some serious Cinderella vibes going on!
But, trust me, it's not all it's cracked up to be.
As the story unfolds, you start to see some pretty interesting details that make you realize not everything is as shiny as it seems.
And let's be real, every character's got their own skeletons in the closet.
The story's told from two different perspectives.
First, we see things from Millie's point of view, and then Nina comes in and flips the whole script on its head.
It's a pretty bold move, but it's also a bit of a shock – and it happens way too quickly.
I prefer the unpredictability of the storyline.
I like to figure things out for myself, rather than having everything laid out for me like a blue-plate special.
By the way, I mentioned blue plates for a reason - the cinematography with them is stunning)
For me, there were plenty of red flags in this movie, screaming 'Get out of here, and don't look back!'
As someone who's into psychology, I picked up on them right away.
And you will too!
Those repeated conversations about the grown roots of the Allós - is that normal?
And what about that weird imitation of the mansion as a toy dollhouse for the daughter...
And that little, perpetually gloomy girl in Wednesday's vibe...
Not to mention the gardener, the sexy Michele Morrone, who straight-up tells the heroine:
-Get out of here!
Man, Michele was robbed of a better role...
Housewife 2025 One thing that caught my attention was the number of erotic scenes in the movie - they're plentiful and tastefully done, without any crassness or vulgarity.
But, of course, I'd still recommend keeping the kids away from the screen.
The actors are all attractive and in great shape, making them a pleasure to watch.
But, be warned, there's also a fair amount of violence in the movie, especially towards the end.
Not everyone will be able to stomach it, especially if you're easily disturbed.
One actress who really stood out to me was Amanda Seyfried.
She brought a lot of depth to the character of an over-the-top housewife, and it's not a one-dimensional role like you might initially think.
I have to say, Amanda did a fantastic job of conveying her emotions on screen, making her gameplay really engaging to watch.
Sydney Sweeney didn't really impress me, especially at the beginning of the movie.
I've seen her in other films where she's got this same tired, downbeat vibe going on.
The actress really needs to work on her facial expressions - they're all the same in every scene.
Fortunately, she perks up in the second half and shows some real talent.
Maybe if she wants to
The locations in the movie are pretty limited.
Most of the filming takes place in the Winchester mansion.
The claustrophobic setting adds to the tension and sense of impending doom.
I was left wondering how this dramatic thriller would unfold after watching 'The Maid'.
I really enjoyed the film 'The Maid' for its visually stunning aesthetic, good acting, plot twists, and unconventional storyline.
However, I didn't get the sense of unpredictability that I was expecting.
Plus, the ending felt really implausible to me.
If you dig deeper, it's pretty easy to figure out who's right and who's wrong.
And there's no happy ending, unfortunately.
I mean, this is just my personal opinion, but the fairytale-like quality of the story is there, but the logic is often lacking.
For example, according to the prenuptial agreement, the wife shouldn't inherit anything from the husband's estate, but she ends up giving a large sum of money to the maid...
Or take this maid, for instance, who's wearing a super revealing top and has her hair down...
But let's be real, people are still dressing up for work in some crazy outfits!
And that's not even the only weird moment in the movie - there are plenty of illogical scenes and plot holes.
But I'm not going to knock it too hard, because the movie is actually pretty engaging and interesting.
So, in the end, I want to say that behind the most beautiful facade, there can be some real evil lurking behind closed doors!
So, girls, don't get too caught up in chasing the perfect life...
Thanks for reading my review!
Enjoy the movie and have a great weekend!
