Hello everyone!
I'm a huge fan of French cinema, and I've been following it for years.
In this review, I'll be talking about the film 'The Colors of Time' directed by Cédric Klapisch, which premiered worldwide in May this year.
The movie tells the story of four relatives who inherit an old house in rural Normandy and learn more about their ancestors in 19th-century Paris.
A brief summary of the film:
In one room, 20 strangers gather and discover they're all descendants of Adèle Vermeillier. When they enter her old house, something unexpected begins: a journey through time. Family secrets resurface, and it becomes clear that events from the distant past are mysteriously influencing the present. As they figure out who Adèle was, each of them learns something important about themselves.
The film was released in 2025.The original title is La venue de l'avenir. The runtime is around 2 hours. This story starts in a really unusual way.
About 20 people gather in one room, united by family ties they didn't know about before.
They're all descendants of Adèle Vermeillier.

The developer wants to buy this land and turn it into a parking lot.
The descendants of Adèle are about to get a glimpse into their past, each other, and experience an incredible connection between generations.

Along with the movie's characters, the viewer is transported to the 19th century, where 21-year-old Adèle travels to Paris in search of her mother.
It's from this moment on that the family tree of this big family begins.

A true aesthetic delight.
The charming Parisian streets, the Eiffel Tower, the elegant outfits of French ladies in hats, the masterpieces of great artists, and the birth of photography.
Now this story might be fictional, but it's told so well.
The movie drops you into an incredible atmosphere of years gone by, the story of creating these masterpieces, leaving you with a pleasant aftertaste.
It's great to see how family bonds form and grow.
This film is about how our past, our memory, shapes our present.
The pacing in this film is calm and unhurried, savoring every moment.
At 2 hours, I think the runtime is a tad drawn out.
I think this film is about how important it is to know our past.
After all, our past shapes our present and lets us stand strong on our own two feet.
So, the film makes you think about your roots, how well do you know the history of your ancestors?
Almost all the actors in this film are unknown to me.
I've got to say, there's no one standout aspect - everything worked together really well.

I highly recommend this movie for a quiet, peaceful family evening.

And here are some of my other reviews of French movies:
"Moloda and Prekrasna" by Francois Ozon - a 17-year-old girl sleeps with men for money. A film about growing up, teenage rebellion, and finding one's identity. What an incredible journey to stay positive in the face of adversity! "The Beautiful Journey" by Madeline Tr is a heart-wrenching French drama with amazing actors.A judge battles against narcotics to clean up his country from heroin. "French Transit" is a film based on real events.A miserly man faces unexpected challenges: a daughter he never knew and a charming woman. A thought-provoking French comedy about excessive thriftiness.I recently stumbled upon a writer who's crafting a biography of a man whose life story started out as a romantic tale, but took a dark and unexpected turn into a chronicle of serial killings - sounds like a thrilling French detective series with a mind-blowing finale, right?I loved the idea of a wedding that brought together three very different guys - an Arab, a Jew, and a Chinese man - and wondered who the fourth groom would be. The result is a hilarious French comedy with Christian Clavier that's full of laughs and surprises.I just watched a film that had me hooked from start to finish - the story of a former royal chef who loses his job and dreams of returning to the palace, but things take an unexpected turn when a feisty woman gets involved.
