I'm a huge fan of tar soap, and I have to admit, I love its distinctive smell so much that it fills up my entire bathroom.
People's attitudes towards tar soap can vary greatly. These days, it's all about flaunting your wealth and expensive cosmetics. But I know girls who, despite having a good financial situation, still use cheap henna for their hair, love household soap, and look amazing. I think I relate to that philosophy in some way.
I'm not saying I use henna for my hair - that's not my style. But I'm really interested in and respectful of many affordable cosmetic products from the past. One of them is this 49-ruble tar soap. Since I found out about its effectiveness in skin and hair care, I've been buying it regularly. As soon as one block runs out, I head straight to the store to get the next one. I wish I'd discovered tar soap years ago - it would've saved me from living without it in my bathroom for so long.

PROS: Smell... and color:
I have to admit, the birch tar soap smells pretty strong – a bit too strong for most people. The color's not exactly luxurious either – it's a dark, brownish hue. Not exactly what I'd call high-end.
But hey, I'm in the minority here. In my bathroom, the birch tar soap is on full display. And the smell only kicks in when it's wet – but boy, does it ever!
When my parents come over, my mom's always okay with the smell, but my dad's always like:
What's that smell? Impossible!

Not the most presentable look: soap review
I know that soap is super popular among teenagers struggling with acne, but I'm long past that age. Still, I use soap for my back, not my face.
Here are my two favorite ways to use soap:
for back acne: during warmer months, I get these annoying breakouts on my back. They're not painful, but they're still a nuisance. Soap helps clear them up quickly and leaves my skin feeling silky smooth! Just be careful not to overdo it, as it can dry out your skin. I'm talking about your back, not your hands or feet.
for scalp volume: I've tried a lot of products for scalp volume, but soap is the only one that really delivers. It not only adds volume but also makes my hair look thicker and shinier. Just be sure to use it correctly – applying too much soap can leave your hair feeling dry and brittle.
How to use soap for hair:
the soap bar: MAKE SURE TO USE THE SOAP LATHER, NOT THE BAR ITSELF. So, wash your hair with your regular shampoo first. Then, rub the soap bar between your hands to create a rich lather. Gently massage this lather into your scalp and roots for 2-3 minutes before rinsing. Don't worry about the length, just focus on the scalp and roots. Trust me, this amount of lather is enough for a WOW effect! If you're concerned about hair squeakiness after using the soap - there's a solution for that too;
First, wash your hair with shampoo, then use the SOAP LATHER!

results: amazing root volume that lasts until the next wash; increased hair density along the entire length; a healthy shine (natural color); hair stays cleaner for +24 hours;
This stuff is hands-down the best for getting volume at the roots of your hair
1 photo - just a regular shampoo, 2 photo - dry shampoo, 3 photo - washing with tar soap
BONUS FOR CURLY HAIR: if you've got porous, curly, or wavy hair, your curls will be tighter and more defined after using this tar soap
BONUS FOR SHORT-HAIR GIRLS: I got this tip from my mom's coworker, who's a super-stylish blonde with a short cut. She swears by using tar soap for volume at the roots, and it totally works - her hair always looks great, no frizz or flyaways
IMPORTANT: I'm not sure if this is suitable for people who wash their hair every day or every other day. I only wash mine twice a week, and I use this tar soap once a week. It feels like overdoing it could dry out your scalp

Verdict: with proper use, this affordable soap will give you the hair of your dreams and silky skin (acne-free). As for the scent, I like it, but I think it's doable to put up with it.
