My Honest Take on a Submersible Pump for Water and Groundwater

summarizeEditor's Summary

I recently gave a submersible pump a try for my water and groundwater needs, hoping to save some cash on pricey septic pumping services. This pump's designed to suck up water and particles from the bottom, but I'm not entirely convinced it can handle particles as small as 35 millimeters. After some trial and error, I found it's more suited for sump basins and groundwater, or draining a pool like my BESTWAY Steel Pro Max 366x366x76 cm pool. It's a decent option if you're looking for a budget-friendly solution, but don't expect it to handle large particles or sewage.

My Honest Take on a Submersible Pump for Water and Groundwater
I recently decided to give a submersible pump a try for my water and groundwater needs. I was hoping to save some cash on septic pumping services, which can get pretty pricey. This pump is designed to suck up water and particles from the bottom, but I'm not entirely convinced it can handle particles as small as 35 millimeters.
As it turns out, this pump is more suited for sump basins and groundwater, or draining a pool like my BESTWAY Steel Pro Max 366x366x76 cm pool. I was a bit skeptical at first, but it's actually worked out pretty well.
This pump is technically a sewage pump, but it's not exactly designed for that purpose. The outlet is only 25 millimeters, which makes me wonder how it's supposed to handle a particle that's 35 millimeters. I guess you can trim the nozzle to 35 millimeters if you need to, but it seems like a hassle.
The hoses come in 1 inch, 1 1/2 inch, and 1 1/4 inch sizes, ranging from 25 milliliters to 40 milliliters. If you want a faster drain, it's worth springing for the 47 milliliter hose, even if it's a bit pricier. With the 25 milliliter hose, it's still surprisingly quick to drain.
It took this pump around 30 hours to drain my water. As the specs state, it can move 125 liters per minute, but keep in mind that these specs are based on the minimum hose length and depth. This pump can be submerged up to 3 meters, but I'm still puzzled why the manufacturer claims a lift height of 5 meters. In reality, you'll be submerging the pump 3 meters down and then pulling the hose up another 2 meters. I initially thought the maximum hose length was 5 meters, which would have impacted performance.
It's convenient that the pump has a switch for manual and automatic operation. Just make sure the factory doesn't mess it up, as I've heard some issues with quality control. I'd recommend checking the pump's operation the first time you use it to avoid burning it out in idle mode.
The manual that came with the pump was a bit of a letdown. It's a generic guide for all the pumps, including the Jemix. Honestly, I didn't even bother reading it. The pump is pretty self-explanatory - just plug it in, and it sucks up water. Turn it off, and it stops. The labels on the pump are pretty clear. I was expecting the pump to be lighter based on the photos on the website, but this one is actually pretty heavy-duty.
It's made of plastic, which doesn't exactly fill me with confidence about its durability. The impeller is also made of plastic, which isn't great.
One thing I do like about this pump is its quiet operation. And the built-in float switch is a nice touch. I did see a similar pump without the float switch for a lower price, but I'm glad I went with this one. It's also surprisingly quiet, considering it's 400W. For my needs, that's more than enough power.
I'm happy with the pump's performance, and from what I've read in reviews, it should last for a couple of seasons. If that's the case, it's definitely worth the investment for the convenience of not having to deal with the hassle of frequent pump replacements.
I'd recommend this pump to anyone looking for a reliable and efficient solution for their water and groundwater needs. Just keep in mind the limitations and potential drawbacks, and you'll be good to go.
One thing I'd like to see improved is the manual. A more detailed and specific guide would be a big plus. But in the end, I'm satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it to others.
So, if you're in the market for a submersible pump, I'd say give this one a shot. Just be aware of the potential issues and take the necessary precautions.
Rating: 4/5 stars
Reliable and efficient performance Quiet operation Built-in float switch Convenient manual and automatic operation
Potential issues with particle handling Limited manual Heavy-duty construction may not be durable Price may be a bit steep for some users
