The balm's consistency is thick and dense, which is a plus - it doesn't feel runny, and it holds its shape on the sponge. Plus, it doesn't soak in right away; it stays on the surface.
The scent is actually pretty nice - it's got a bit of a chemical undertone, but the top notes are fresh and slightly sweet, and they really come out when you lather up the balm.
For one use, I found that I only needed about the amount shown in the photo. First, I apply the balm to the sponge, then I lather it up under running water. And that's when I get a nice, thick cloud of foam.
The balm is great at tackling dried-on food and grease - and it doesn't just spread it around; it gets rid of it right away. I don't have to scrub or rub - just one pass with the sponge, and then it's all gone.
The best part is that the balm completely rinses off the dishes. After washing, there's no remaining scent or residue on the plates or utensils. And it doesn't leave any streaks or marks - I can just let the dishes air dry, knowing there won't be any stains.
