My Aquarium Fish Have Mixed Feelings About Sera Wels-Chips

summarizeEditor's Summary

As an aquarium enthusiast, I've been feeding my deep-water fish Sera Wels-Chips for a week now, and I've got some mixed results to share. While the build quality is top-notch, the fish seem to have some reservations about the taste. The chips retain their shape well, even in deep water, and there are no artificial colors or preservatives – a big plus in my book. However, not all of my fish are fans of the taste, and some seem to prefer other options. I've also noticed that it can slightly cloud the water, which might be a concern for some owners. Overall, it's a solid choice, but it's not perfect.

I'll be honest - choosing the right food for your aquarium fish is crucial to their happiness.
To keep things interesting, I like to mix up their diet, and in this review, I'll take a closer look at SERA Wels-Chips, a popular product from a well-known manufacturer.
SERA Wels-Chips.I picked up this food at Wildberiz for 145 rubles.
Description
SERA Wels-Chips are a type of chip that retains its shape for deep-water anabantids and pleskostomus. This food is the main staple for deep-water fish, such as anabantids and pleskostomus, without any artificial colors or preservatives.
I could've found a cheaper option at the pet store, but I was too lazy to look, so I added it to my cart along with other items.
SERA Wels-Chips. For this price, I get a 15g pack with detailed information on the composition and usage of this food.
Spirulina in the compositionI first tried this food when I had anabantids, and they absolutely loved it. In fact, it was almost a daily staple for them. If I had to choose between frozen brine shrimp and this food, they'd probably go for the shrimp first, but they still enjoyed this food a lot.
The catfish is looking a bit peckish As of now, I have a few coridorous and catfish. If I had to describe the fish that eat from the bottom, it would be these two.
A comparison of bottom feedersOf course, I feed them a variety of bottom feeders, but I also don't forget about live food in the form of frozen brine shrimp.
SERA Wels-Chips for catfish.Despite the small weight of the packaging, we have a fairly impressive volume because the food is light.
By the way, in addition to the woody component, spirulina is also present in the composition.
It's worth noting that I usually buy the food in packets to save money. It's cheaper and I simply pour it into the old food containers for convenience. Our 15 grams fit perfectly into a 30-gram container.
Eats, but without much enthusiasmFeeding is pretty straightforward - we just toss it in and the food sinks to the bottom.
One of the positives is that it doesn't break down quickly and the fish can easily take bites of it as needed.
The bock doesn't really appreciate these chipsHowever, the downsides aren't entirely clear-cut. The fish do eat these chips, but without much enthusiasm, and when they eat the 'pellets', they're not too keen on them. The bock doesn't like them at all, while the coridorus eats them but leaves a lot behind.
Even the smaller fish eat this foodSince the aquarium is overstocked, the worm doesn't go unnoticed by the other fish, and they also eat it a bit.
Sera Wels-Chips.At first, I was impressed with the ingredients and the look of these chips - they seem high-quality. But, to be honest, my fish weren't exactly thrilled about them. I even mixed them with live food, but the anabantids still wouldn't touch them. I'm wondering if my fish just got a bit spoiled with all the options they have.
I'm giving these chips 4 stars with some reservations. They do cloud the water a bit, which isn't ideal.
