I've been dealing with Renaissance Credit Bank for a really long time, but I've never taken out a loan or mortgage - not because of the interest rates, but because I hate being tied down and owing someone. I'm a bit of a free spirit, and I like to keep my finances simple.

My first experience with the bank was about eight years ago, when the office was located on Alexeievskaya (Nizhny Novgorod). I remember walking up to the bank, feeling a bit uneasy because the entrance was tucked away in a courtyard, looking more like a service entrance than a main entrance. The sign above the door was pretty unassuming, and I'm pretty sure most locals in Nizhny Novgorod might not even know this bank exists.
What really mattered to me was the bank's offer and the institution itself. If the offer met my expectations, I was really let down when I visited the bank for the first time. I'm not going to call myself financially illiterate, but I don't like taking unnecessary risks. For me, it's much more comforting to receive a small, but 100% guaranteed income from the bank.
Walking up to the bank, I couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy. The bank's office isn't exactly visible from the main road - the entrance is tucked away in a courtyard, looking more like a service entrance than a main entrance. Once you get inside, you're greeted by a narrow corridor that you need to turn right and straight into. Initially, there were these tiny chairs lining the wall, where customers would wait in line - it felt like stepping back in time to the Soviet era or visiting a doctor's office, where you'd ask who was last in line. Waiting around isn't exactly pleasant, but what can you do?
Fast forward a few years, and they finally introduced an electronic queue system - but it's not always working. The bank staff are stationed behind regular desks, using old computers, and there are usually only two of them taking customers. The whole setup feels more like a cramped room than a bank.

I've used other banks over the years, but I keep coming back to Renaissance Credit because they're transparent about their terms - if I see a good interest rate, I can read the fine print and head down to open an account.
But with other banks, I've encountered some sneaky conditions - like needing to take out insurance or invest in something, or even opening a new card that I have to use to top up my account. It's a real money-sucker, because you're planning on a certain return, but with all these extra conditions, it ends up being much less.
Let me give you an example - I went to Raiffeisen Bank to open a deposit, and they asked if I had a card. Of course not, so they wanted me to pay 1000 rubles for a new card. If you're putting in a small sum, like 50,000 rubles, you won't even break even by the end of the term. It's just not worth the hassle of traveling to the bank and wasting your time - Renaissance Credit gets it right, though.

I've gotta say, I wasn't exactly thrilled when I needed to visit the bank last year - maybe I was closing a deposit, maybe I wanted to open a new one, I don't even remember, but I was really let down when I showed up to the address and found the office was closed.
And let's be real, we only have one branch in the entire city, and that already raises some red flags - but when they close without warning and don't even update their website, I start to get really anxious.

But this year, the bank's staff really let me down. I had a deposit open, and I tried not to panic, but the interest rates were just astronomical - it made me question their motives.
I mean, who benefits from those kinds of rates? It's like the old saying goes - 'free cheese is only found in a mousetrap.'
So, I figured it was only a matter of time before the crisis hit and the interest rates plummeted, and I rushed to the bank to get my money, but unfortunately, I couldn't even get it within the 3-day timeframe.
That just made me more convinced that the bank was in trouble and didn't have the funds to pay out to depositors - I was getting really worried.
But after a week, I finally managed to make a withdrawal.
Unfortunately, the operator messed up and I had scheduled a specific time slot, but when I showed up, they'd gotten it all wrong and I ended up waiting in line for 1.5 hours.
I'll be honest, there was one moment when I was totally confused about what to do next. Apparently, you need to enter some sort of voucher number, but I had no idea what that was. Luckily, some experienced folks explained it to me, but I wish the customer support operator had done the same over the phone.
And to make matters worse, there were only two customer support operators available at the time. I'm convinced that the bank could have handled the rush of people trying to withdraw their money better, like by offering higher interest rates through the mobile app to keep people from leaving and opening their accounts online.

I've only been using the mobile app for a year now, and before that, it didn't even exist. The online personal account was a nightmare to use, to be honest. At least now they have a fast payment system in place, but before that, I had to pay extra fees or exchange my money and deposit it into an ATM – it was such a hassle.
I was also really disappointed with the bank's terms, especially compared to my previous experience with Metalloinvest. When I was waiting for my money to be transferred, the bank put it into a savings account and I earned a decent interest rate in the meantime. But with this bank, I actually lost all my interest because the interest rate on my account was basically zero.
