I've had great luck with these seeds - the Red Elberta Peach variety is a real winner for home gardeners. You'll get a high yield of juicy tomatoes with a sweet flavor and firm texture. They're perfect for tossing into salads, adding to sandwiches, or just snacking on fresh. With proper care, I've found these seeds to be a low-maintenance, high-reward choice. I've gotten consistent results and the flavor is always a hit with my family and friends.

A Fuzzy Peach Tomato Like No Other: My Experience with Red Elberta Peach

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'm hooked on this fuzzy cherry tomato, and I'm here to share my experience with the Red Elberta Peach. With its stunning blue leaves and exotic taste, it's a total game changer for any gardener looking to add some excitement to their harvest. While it's not without its flaws, the Red Elberta Peach is worth every penny for its unique appearance and flavor. But be warned: it's not the easiest to grow, and pests can be a problem. Still, I'm impressed by its build quality and ease of use, making it a great addition to any garden. I've been growing it for a few months now, and I've noticed that it's relatively low maintenance, which is a huge plus for busy gardeners like me. A Fuzzy Peach Tomato Like No Other: My Experience with Red Elberta Peach
Hello everyone!
I have to say, one of the most unusual tomatoes I've come across in my gardening journey is the fuzzy cherry tomato. I've had a similar experience with a plush tomato called Focuse-Pocus a few years ago. It was interesting, but not perfect.
I recently came across another tomato variety called Red Elberta Peach (Krasnyy Persik Elberta) on a gardening forum. I was immediately drawn to its unique color. And the description:
Fuzzy peach with blue leaves, exotic taste
really piqued my interest, and I ended up buying the seeds.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find any information on the parent variety of this tomato. It might be an American selection (but whose, exactly?...). The only breeder offering this variety at the moment is IP Grigoriev A.Y.
The price for a pack of 10 seeds at the time of writing this review varies from 120 to 220 rubles.
The seeds are average in size, nothing to complain about.
Here's the variety description, with the things that caught my attention:
Fuzzy fruit, like a peach, blue leaves
Middle-ripening (90-105 days), semi-determinate (50-120 cm).
Fruits are not large, round or oval in shape, red with a yellow stripe, weighing up to 100g. , fuzzy.
The bush is blue, velvety, leaves are medium-sized, blue-green in color.
Very beautiful and rare variety.
Best grown in greenhouse conditions.
Place 3-4 plants per 1 sq. m.
Based on the description and the photo on the packet, I expected this tomato to grow into something very unique and beautiful.
The picture on the packet is a bit misleading: the fruit in close-up looks like it should be medium to large size. Combined with the mention of peaches, it seems like that's what I should expect. So, it's worth paying attention to the description - it's all there.
I decided to try out two seeds for a taste test. I planted them on 12 March, without soaking or sprouting them. I simply put them in a pot with well-moistened potting soil, about 1 cm deep.
I was excited to see the first sprout emerge after just 5 days, followed by a second one 7 days later. The growth rate was pretty consistent with the other tomato plants.
The plant grew at a leisurely pace, but the leaves were thick and fluffy, with a unique rounded shape right from the start. The stems were also fluffy, making them look like adorable little critters.
They seemed a bit stretched out, but to be honest, they weren't the tallest plants among the other tomatoes. They were actually quite compact and not too sprawling.
By the end of April, the plants had started to form flower clusters, with tiny buds hiding amongst the fluff at the top.
By the second half of May, I had transplanted the tomatoes into the greenhouse. There were no issues with acclimation - the plants just started producing more foliage and forming flower clusters.
Compared to the other tomato plants, the Red Elberta Peach really stood out. The leaves were still thick and fluffy, with a lovely blue-ish hue!
The plants had started producing suckers in the soil, so I decided not to remove them.
The stems were sturdy, dense, and moderately thick, and didn't stretch. I had to tie them up occasionally so the plant wouldn't break or spread out too much.
These plants are quite bushy and spread out in all directions without any issues.
The height of the plant is typical for a determinate type, around 120 cm.
At the beginning of July, small, fluffy tomatoes with dark green spots started to appear.
Fruit growth didn't hinder flowering at all. Flowers are the typical kind for tomatoes. The plants display them openly, with the clusters spread out.
Tomatoes started to turn red at the end of July, not too quickly.
We tried our first Red Elberta Peach tomato in early August.
Tomatoes were not too large in size. According to the characteristics, these tomatoes weigh up to 100 g.
I didn't quite get the weight I expected, but 20-40 g is still within the promised range.
Maybe the fruit would have been larger if I had done some grafting, but I didn't feel like it, and it's not like it was mentioned anywhere.
However, they look quite nice and pleasant on the eyes. A bit fluffy, though.
You can can them whole, which is what I mostly did. The dense skin prevents the tomatoes from breaking down in the brine.
During washing and processing, the fluffiness on the skin pretty much disappears, but a bit of it remains.
Inside, they're just red. Juicy. No tough white pit.
Taste is pleasant, but boring. No real sweetness or acidity. Nothing... to speak of. In that regard, they disappointed me. Not even a peach...
Honestly, the appearance of the fluffy blue-green bushes thrilled me way more than the taste of their fruits.
Harvest yields a rather scattered sort. Ate them all through September. And then they were able to ripen, waiting for their time.
Thanks to the pubescence, the bushes are well protected from pests. Aphids and caterpillars didn't bother them and didn't ruin them.
Avoid diseases, this doesn't save...
From care, I had regular watering (about 2 times a week) and mulching with fresh grass.
I was able to treat them with disease just once, and these peaches got sick... The leaves were covered in large black spots. But the trunks didn't rot (or hadn't yet).
I simply cut off these leaves and removed them. The yield wasn't affected, so in my case, it wasn't a problem, although the view was undoubtedly spoiled.
Short summary of everything said:
😍 Red Elberta Peach - a very attractive determinate variety with thick, fluffy, blue-green leaves. It might be a real decoration for the garden.
🐛 Not bothered by pests, but it's prone to disease. 🥀
🍅 The tomatoes are cute, fluffy, but small... Taste is mediocre, not very intense, and expressed.
🙃 The yield is decent. Good enough for whole-fruit canning. Also suitable for salads and other cooking.
Honestly, I'm not sure if I'll plant it again. I want tomatoes that taste better, even for canning, and the beauty of the bush isn't the most important thing, although it's pleasant, undoubtedly.
Try it out for interest. Maybe in your conditions, the tomatoes will be bigger and taste better.
Thanks for reading the review! I hope it's helpful. Good luck to all gardeners and gardeners with delicious and bountiful harvests!
But enough about my successes and failures with growing tomatoes and other plants – you can read more about that in my profile.
Welcome!
