A Solid Choice for the Price, But Some Drawbacks to Keep in Mind

summarizeEditor's Summary

I splurged on these R16 215 on 70 tires for around 8,000 rubles per unit, and I'm glad I did. They're a solid choice for the price, but there are some drawbacks to keep in mind. The stiff sidewalls do a great job of handling the load, and the deep tread provides excellent traction on dirt roads. However, the noise level is higher than what I'm used to with regular road tires, and the tires did get a bit deformed during shipping from China.

I splurged on these tires for around 8,000 rubles per unit, and I'm glad I did. The R16 215 on 70 size was a bit of a challenge for the mechanics at the tire shop, but they managed to fit them on my Sportage without any issues. The stiff sidewalls do a great job of handling the load, and the deep tread provides excellent traction on dirt roads.
The tires did get a bit deformed during shipping from China, but that's a minor cosmetic issue. The real test came when I hit the dirt roads – the tires performed admirably, with an average weight gain of 20-30 grams per wheel. That's a testament to their quality and durability.
The noise level is higher than what I'm used to with regular road tires, but that's expected given the deep tread. It's a trade-off for the added confidence when hitting the dirt – I can drive on gravel after a rain shower without worrying too much. Of course, it's not an off-road tire, but it's a good compromise between on-road and off-road performance. Some people might say it's not the best, but I think it's a solid choice.
The fuel efficiency took a hit, with an increase of around 0.3 liters per 100 kilometers compared to my previous tires from Hankook. That's not a deal-breaker, but something to keep in mind if you're planning a road trip.
Comfort-wise, these tires are suitable for heavier off-road vehicles. On my Sportage, it feels a bit light, but that's a good thing – it's still a comfortable ride. The only downside is the slight jolt when hitting bumps, but that's a small price to pay for the added security.
After two seasons and numerous encounters with potholes and large rocks, there's not a single sign of wear. The tires look almost new, which is exactly what I need to save some cash. I've been able to avoid replacing them due to excessive wear, which is a major plus.
I was pleasantly surprised by the handling – the stiff sidewalls make sharp turns a breeze, and the tire stays put even in the rain. The aquaplaning resistance is impressive, and I think it's due to the deep tread.
However, there's one major issue – the tires tend to overheat and lose traction when braking hard on asphalt in the summer. It's not a problem in normal driving conditions, but it's something to be aware of if you're planning to do a lot of high-speed driving.
I'm not sure if these tires would be safe in deep winter conditions, but they do handle light snow and temperatures below 4°C without any issues. I've driven through some light snowstorms, and they performed well.
Overall, these tires might not be the best in every aspect, but their price and reliability make them a solid choice. If you're looking for a good compromise between on-road and off-road performance, these might be worth considering. Just be aware of the potential issues with overheating and braking.
