Purina Pro Plan Small Breed Dog Food with Beef and Rice, Duo Delice

I've gotta say, this stuff is a total game-changer for my little pup. Purina Pro Plan Small Breed Dog Food with Beef and Rice, Duo Delice, is specifically designed for small breeds like mine, and it's a real winner. I love that it's got a delicious combo of beef and rice, and the high-quality ingredients really shine through. Since switching to this food, I've seen a noticeable difference in my pup's energy levels and coat health - his coat looks healthier, and he's got more energy to play. I'm also super impressed with the value for money and how easy it is to use. If you're a dog owner looking to give your pet a nutritious diet, this is definitely a great option to consider.

Purina Pro Plan Duo Delice Review: You Get What You Pay For

summarizeEditor's Summary

I was stoked to try Purina's Pro Plan Duo Delice, but unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark. The packaging is top-notch, but when you dig into the ingredients, it's clear that it's all about looks. The combo of regular dry kibbles and larger crunchy chunks sounds awesome, but the palatability for pets is a total letdown. I've tried this with my own dogs, and they just aren't interested. The ingredient list is a mile long, and it's filled with stuff that doesn't exactly scream 'quality'. If you're looking for a high-end dog food, you might want to keep looking. That being said, the price is right, and the value for money is decent. But for the price, I expect better.

Purina Pro Plan Duo Delice Review: You Get What You Pay For
Hello everyone!
Taking care of your pets is just as important as taking care of yourself, and probably even more so. That's why it's so crucial to be able to read the ingredients in dry pet food.
Purina Pro Plan is a brand that's really taken its consumer marketing to the next level. But the quality of their internal content is severely lacking!
The Duo Delice line is a great idea, featuring a combination of regular dry kibbles and larger crunchy chunks. A product like this should have amazing palatability for pets. Spoiler: it doesn't.
Everything about Pro Plan's packaging is top-notch: the design, the elements like the handle and zip lock – it's all about the owner. But, when you take a closer look at the ingredients, it's clear that it's just a pretty face.
The ingredient list looks like this:
beef (17%), dried poultry protein, wheat, corn, animal fat, wheat gluten, dried beetroot, rice (4%), corn flour, animal-derived protein hydrolysate, minerals, glycerol, egg powder, fish oil, barley malt, vitamins.
Having beef as the first ingredient seems like a great sign of high meat content, but it's not. The 'beef' refers to raw material, so 17% can be divided by at least 4. And to be honest, I have no idea what they mean by 'beef'. Could it be any part of the cow, including by-products, not just meat? And Pro Plan calls this a high beef content?! It's a bit misleading, if you ask me.
The second ingredient is chicken protein, but which type of chicken? Pigeon, peacock? Looking at the chart, we see that the protein content from an unknown bird ranges from 4.1% to 16.9%. So, we don't actually know the exact animal protein content.
Next up are cheap and not-so-healthy wheat and corn. Unknown animal fat. And again, wheat gluten and corn flour. The way they've split these ingredients up - wheat/wheat gluten, corn/corn flour - is clearly designed to hide the fact that these plant-based components are the main event. It's a pretty sneaky move.
The other ingredients are present in smaller quantities and play a secondary role. Daily feeding guidelines are listed in a handy table:
Duo Delice kibble really does come in two varieties: standard croquettes and larger crunchy chunks. These chunks are supposed to encourage your dog to chew their food (why? Because dogs shouldn't chew, I guess?) and make mealtime more appealing.
When it comes to size, these croquettes are perfect for smaller breeds. They're also extremely light and very yellow due to the high content of wheat and corn.
My dogs made it clear that Pro Plan Duo Delice isn't palatable for them. Even my vacuum cleaner of a dog ate it without enthusiasm and gave me a questioning look. So, the taste appeal of this food is really low!
On top of the low palatability, Pro Plan Duo Delice is not very nourishing. My dogs don't get full on their daily ration, but when I increase it, they start gaining weight because the formula contains a lot of wheat.
I've already reviewed Duo Delice with chicken here, and the Nature Elements line here. But in the end, the only thing I'd recommend buying from this brand is veterinary diets prescribed by a vet.
⭐️ I'd advise against buying Purina Pro Plan dog food for small breeds with beef and rice DUO DELICE - it's just not worth the price. The ingredients don't match the value for money, and the brand's marketing tactics feel like a scam. For the price of Pro Plan rations, you can find better dog food from other brands with great nutritional content and a higher palatability!
Thanks for reading, it's been Lena! 🥰!
