Hello everyone!
I recently had to find a special diet for my cat after her sterilization, and I ended up trying Purina One with beef and carrot flavor. It's designed specifically for cats like mine, and I wanted to see if it lived up to the hype.

What the Manufacturer Says
Here's the official description from the manufacturer:
After sterilization, a cat's hormonal balance, metabolism, and behavior change. Sterilized cats are prone to obesity and kidney stones, but a well-chosen adult cat food can help mitigate these issues.
Purina One wet cat food, developed by Purina experts with the needs of post-sterilized cats in mind, supports a healthy metabolism and optimal weight in your pet.
• Purina One wet cat food is a balanced diet containing essential micronutrients for your cat's health.
• High-quality protein helps maintain muscle mass and optimal weight.
• A carefully selected combination of minerals supports healthy urinary system function.
• Antioxidants and essential fatty acids boost your cat's natural immunity.
• The food has a soft texture, appetizing smell, and great taste.
• Free from artificial colors, preservatives, and flavor enhancers.
One thing that caught my eye is the use of high-quality chicken or beef as a source of great protein and flavor.
I have to give credit where credit is due - the information on the website is actually detailed and informative, listing specific ingredients and features of the food, rather than just a bunch of generic phrases. For example, the main flavors are chicken or beef, and that's exactly what it is - just two options for sterilized food from Purina One, but still more than Felix, and only slightly more than Pro Plan.
While the manufacturer's description is impressive, it does raise some questions. For instance, what exactly does 'high-quality beef' mean? Is it grass-fed beef, or beef that was raised without antibiotics? Or maybe it's just regular beef from a farm? High-quality compared to what? I didn't see any similar labels on Felix, so I'm guessing the beef on that brand is of lower quality? It's hard to say.
Let's take a closer look at the ingredients:
Purina One Sterilized Cat Food with Beef and Carrot Flavor, ingredient review, review I was surprised to see the ingredient list is almost identical to Felix's, but the quality is somehow higher. The only difference is the addition of oils and fats, but other than that, it's a carbon copy, especially when compared to the Sensations range. Again, the percentages aren't listed anywhere, but that's become a familiar issue for me.
At first glance, it's clear this product can be confidently called a complete diet, making it suitable for regular feeding. Overall, it's got everything a cat needs: diverse sources of protein, fats, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. A decent pet food should have all these elements, after all. In the wild, cats eat grass with bones, offal, and veggies. My own cat loves cucumbers and zucchini, so just meat alone would be a letdown and a nutritional shortfall. Yes, it should be the main component, but it's not the only one.
As usual, I'm only concerned about one aspect that affects the product's appearance: the thickener and sugar. Cats don't need them, and neither do I, to be honest. I wouldn't be too fussed if the food isn't a rich brown color or the sauce ends up too runny.
Just a few words about the nutritional value:
Guaranteed values: moisture - 78%, protein - 13%, fats - 3.6%, ash - 2.3%, fiber - 0.6%.
I was expecting some differences in the nutritional values compared to the chicken and green bean variation of Purina One, but it turns out they're pretty much the same. That's a bit weird, considering beef is slightly fattier. But who knows, maybe they tweaked the formula to match the other version. From a protein-to-fat ratio perspective, this one's a winner for sterilized cats, and when you look at the dry matter content, it's even more impressive. One thing that caught my eye is the 59% protein content – the question is, how much of that comes from animal sources and how much from plants.
Packaging and Aroma
The packaging is a nice green-blue plastic bag. The design is clean and easy to read, with no clutter or awkward font choices.
Purina One Sterilized Cat Food with Beef and Carrot Flavor, Composition Review, ReviewOn the back, as always, there's a brief description of the product. The white background and green text don't quite match, but it's still readable.
Purina One Sterilized Cat Food with Beef and Carrot Flavor, Composition Review, ReviewThe packaging has little notches on both sides, making it easy to open by hand.
Purina One Food for Sterilized Cats with Beef and Carrot Flavor, Composition Review, Feedback I've got to say, the flavor profile is pretty prominent on the right side – they've dedicated a decent chunk of space to it. The beef flavor is paired with a red hue, which is so overpowering that I barely even notice the rest.
Purina One Food for Sterilized Cats with Beef and Carrot Flavor, Composition Review, Feedback The aroma is actually quite pleasant, especially considering I'm not a huge fan of beef-based flavors – they often have a pungent smell. This one's more subtle, with a focus on beef by-products rather than pure meat, which is a nice touch.
The color's a nice brownish-red, a bit darker than the chicken variant, which makes sense given the amount of sugar in the mix. Without it, the color would be a lot paler.
Purina One Food for Sterilized Cats with Beef and Carrot Flavor, Composition Review, Feedback I love that you can see the carrot bits clearly in the mix – it's always a plus when you can visually inspect the ingredients. The bits are of varying sizes, just like usual. Purina doesn't mess around with fancy presentation; they just give you what you pay for.
The sauce is nice and thick, but I think it would be even thicker without the thickening agent. There's plenty of it, though, so the carrot bits are well-coated, and none of them dry out.

Feeding
I noticed that the feeding guidelines for Purina One differ from Felix. While my cat needed four packs of Felix, she's happy with just three packs of Purina One. That suggests the food is more filling, and when you factor in the cost, it's a similar value for money.
I don't feed my cat three packs a day, as the wet food is a supplement to the dry food. The ideal ratio is one pack of wet food to the recommended amount of dry food, but sometimes she'll gobble up a few more packs depending on her mood, activity level, and the weather.
Purina One Sterilized Cat Food with Beef and Carrot Flavor, Nutritional Breakdown and Review My cat is notoriously finicky about wet food, and she's rejected many different brands over the years. However, she took to Purina One immediately and gobbled it up with gusto. If I had to divide the pack into two meals before, she's now happy to eat the whole thing in one sitting.
Nutrition • Value for Money • Consumption
I'm glad to say that my cat is finally eating well thanks to Purina One. If I don't give her a mix of wet and dry food, she just won't touch the dry stuff, so the option of just one type of food isn't working for us, and the vets agree - a varied diet is essential. The Pro Plan wet food really gets her appetite going, and after that, she's happy to munch on the dry stuff, which is great because she's getting enough moisture in her diet.
Purina One dry food for sterilized cats with beef and carrot flavor, review and composition overviewI've been pleasantly surprised by how little of the food my cat goes through - both in terms of weight and cost. This is a great option for anyone who wants to save money, as it works out to less than a thousand rubles a month.
Purina One dry food for sterilized cats with beef and carrot flavor, review and composition overviewThe consumption is lightning-fast - I just put it down, and I can already hear the munching sounds coming from the other room. It's not surprising, even to me, as it looks appetizing, like a meaty sauce with carrots. My cat isn't even bothering to eat the sauce first and then the chunks - she's devouring everything in one go. It's clear that she loves it, as she's purring contentedly after her meal and then running off to play.

Results of Use
I've seen this result before: nothing bad happens. I've heard some people say that Purina cat food is toxic, but in my experience, that's just not true. My vet has seen my cat, Felix, who eats a cheap store brand, and there are no negative consequences. Purina One is a step up, so I expected even better results. My cat is still full of energy, loves to play, and even enjoys climbing into bags.
