Wood Pellet Cat Litter by Pet Pride

I've tried a bunch of cat litters, but this wood pellet stuff from Pet Pride really stands out. It's made from natural wood, so it's eco-friendly, and it's super absorbent, which means less scooping for me. Plus, it's a great value for money - it's cost-effective and low-maintenance, and my cat's paws are happy too. I've noticed my cat digs less with this litter, and cleanup is a breeze. It's not perfect, but it's definitely one of the best I've used so far.

My Disappointing Experience with PET PRIDE Wood Pellet Cat Litter

summarizeEditor's Summary

I was stoked to try the PET PRIDE wood pellet cat litter, but unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype. The eco-friendly packaging is a nice touch, but the litter itself has some major drawbacks. For one, the smell is pretty potent - I'm not sure if it's the wood pellets or the packaging, but it's definitely noticeable. I've also found that it tends to clump and become a mess when I try to clean the litter box. The value for money just isn't there, considering the hassle and mess it causes. I've been searching for a litter that's easy to use, eco-friendly, and doesn't break the bank, but so far, this one's not it.

My Disappointing Experience with PET PRIDE Wood Pellet Cat Litter
Hello there!
I'm still on the hunt for the ultimate litter for my cat, and I've tried a bunch of different ones. Unfortunately, every time I think I've found the perfect one, there's always some snag that makes me not want to buy it again.
I was recommended the PET PRIDE wood litter by some friends, who swore by its eco-friendliness and how it reminded their cats of their natural habitat.
PET PRIDE wood litter, absorbing reviewI've had experience with wood litter before, and I wasn't impressed, to say the least. But my friends convinced me to give it another shot, so I ordered 9 kg of the stuff.
I have to admit, the packaging looked pretty standard - a large craft bag with two handles. However, I wouldn't dare carry it by those handles from the pickup point to my home. I ended up carrying it in my hands, holding onto the bottom of the bag.
PET PRIDE Wood Pellet Cat Litter, Absorbing Review I had a hard time taking a decent photo of the back, but it's got all the necessary info. PET PRIDE Wood Pellet Cat Litter, Absorbing Review PET PRIDE Wood Pellet Cat Litter, Absorbing Review Composition-wise, it's made from coniferous wood.
As for the appearance, it looks like small compressed pellets. They're pretty dense, and if your cat digs in the litter box, you'll hear it all over the house. These granules are ridiculously loud. The scent is almost undetectable at first, with a hint of pine. But later... I'll get into that below.
When it comes to absorbency, I've got a fastidious cat who needs a frequent litter change. He'll keep me up until I replace it with fresh litter, even if I try to get away with it. So, my usage is above average.
I've always been dead set against wood-based litters, and I still am. I'll be a wood-based litter hater for life, probably.
First off, it smells. And it's not those piney notes I'm talking about. The smell is straight-up unpleasant. If your cat does their business, the liquid gets absorbed into these sawdust bits and it smells even worse. If you remove the used litter, the smell doesn't go away. And let's be real, I'm not always home to clean the litter box after every use. I'm usually at work all day, and when I get home, it's usually late in the evening. By the way, my cat's been neutered, and their pee doesn't smell, but other litters do a great job of blocking odors. This wood one, though, just makes it worse.
Of course, my cleaner cat is always asking me to change the litter because it smells. And let's just say my wallet's not happy about it.
PET PRIDE Wood Pellet Cat Litter, Absorbing ReviewThe second major issue is that this wood pellet litter breaks down when it gets wet. My cat's always spreading these sawdust bits all over the place with their paws. I've got a litter box without a mesh, and I'm not planning on getting a new one anytime soon. I've got a mat around the litter box, but the sawdust still sticks to their paws, and they carry it all around the house!
PET PRIDE Wood Pellet Cat Litter, Absorbing ReviewSo, two major downsides for me: the smell and the sawdust getting all over the place.
I managed to use up the 9 kg I ordered (I have no idea how I didn't see the size before I ordered it!), and I'm done with wood pellet litters. Don't even get me started on how much I don't want to use them!
The only good things I can say about this litter are that it's value for money for the amount you get, natural, has no dust, and you can flush it down the toilet.
Unfortunately, I've had some pretty disappointing experiences with this litter, especially when it comes to clumping and odor control. It tends to break down and turn into dust, which sticks to my cat's paws. The smell is also pretty awful - instead of neutralizing odors, it just makes things worse.
Let's talk about the fillers: I've tried wood-based fillers like this one, but they just don't cut it for me. I've also tried silica gel, but I've had mixed results with it. Another product I've tried is silica gel from Kotiki, but it's not without its flaws. I've also tried Cutecats Premium, but it's not something I'd recommend. Bentonite clay is another natural option, but it's got its own set of problems. Compostable litter is another option, but it's not something I'd use long-term. Zeolite is another product I've tried, but it's not without its issues.
TL;DR: I won't be buying this litter again for my cat. It's the worst I've tried, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
