My Switch to Perfect Fit: A Game-Changer for Fussy Felines
I've been a cat owner for years, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had to switch up their kitty's food at least once. I've been doing it for what feels like forever, and I'm still on the hunt for the perfect food. With seven furballs at home, all strays I've taken in, it's a challenge to care for that many animals. Adding to the problem is that I live in a private home, and keeping all these critters indoors is no easy feat, especially when you've got one cat who's always trying to make a break for it through the open door.
My efforts to keep them indoors aren't always successful, especially during the warmer months, so five of my cats spend their time lounging in the backyard and garden, while the other two are complete homebodies who never venture out. And of course, the strays always seem to bring in some kind of parasite or disease, which ends up getting passed around the household. The cats who stay indoors are the ones who really suffer, and they need more careful treatment. They're all vaccinated, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
I've tried feeding them Grandorf, Royal, and Josera in the past, but I'm still searching for the perfect food.
One day, while I was cleaning the litter box, I noticed that one of my cats had loose stool with blood and mucus. It was a pretty alarming sight, and I was worried sick. After observing the cats for a while, I figured out which one was affected, and we took them to the vet. The doctor ran some tests and diagnosed my cat with coccidiosis. She prescribed treatment for the cat and the rest of the household, and also asked about our feeding habits. At the time, I was feeding them Grandorf, but I'd previously tried Royal and Josera.
My vet recommended switching our kitties to Perfect Fit for Sensitive Digestion. She specifically told me to steer clear of Grandorf, saying she sees a lot of animals come in after they've been fed that brand. I trusted her judgment - she's helped our fur babies more times than I can count, so I gave the recommended food a try.
The food's widely available in pet stores and even some supermarkets, so I had no trouble picking some up. It's always in stock, which is a bonus.
First Impressions.
The packaging is pretty standard for this type of product - a plastic bag with a cute cat design and all the necessary information about the product.
It's clear on the packaging that this is a food for sensitive-stomach cats:
On the underside, there's a barcode and some information in Kazakh:
They also mention how it helps maintain immunity, digestion, and urinary health:
I was surprised to see that the packaging says the food is meant for 12 days, but that's clearly for one cat - my seven furballs went through it in no time!
The feeding guidelines are pretty straightforward - they show you how much food your cat needs based on their weight.
Here's the list of vitamins and nutrients that this food contains:
I've got to say, the ingredient list starts off pretty standard with taurine, which is great because a deficiency in a cat's diet can lead to some serious health issues. However, I was surprised not to see magnesium listed, which is a real concern for me. Magnesium is essential for so many bodily functions in cats, from maintaining healthy teeth and bones to preventing blood clots and diabetes. A lack of magnesium can even slow down your cat's growth and increase the risk of pancreatitis, bile duct disease, and kidney stones.
One thing I appreciate about this food is that it's designed to help maintain your cat's ideal weight.
I'm happy to see that Perfect Fit cat food is designed for sensitive stomachs, and it's clear that the manufacturer has taken steps to avoid common allergens like soy, which can cause digestive issues in some cats.
One thing I appreciate is the inclusion of Omega-3 fatty acids in this recipe.
Here's a look at the ingredient list:
I'm not sure what the point is of including corn meal in the sensitive stomach food for pets, especially since it's one of the top ingredients. We all know that corn has a high glycemic index, which means it causes a rapid spike in blood sugar levels, increasing the risk of obesity and diabetes in pets. Plus, corn is harder to digest than meat and can slow down nutrient absorption.
I just cut it with scissors.
Here's what the food looks like:
The kibble is a good size for my cats to eat comfortably. The smell is neutral, not overpowering, and apparently appetizing enough since they dove right in after just sniffing it.
My cat family's got a mix of picky eaters and free spirits who'll chow down on anything. The Perfect Fit's been a hit with all of them - they're clearly enjoying their meals.
I've had my kitties on this new food for about three weeks now, and I haven't seen any unwanted reactions or side effects. It's clear they love the taste, as they're devouring their meals with gusto and leaving the bowls spotless. If there's a bit left over for the humans, it's because the cats are just too full to finish!
I did notice that the blood in my cat's stool from earlier in my review has cleared up, but I'm not sure if that's down to the new food or the medication we've been giving her to treat the coccidiosis. Either way, the Perfect Fit hasn't made things worse, and she's still munching away happily.
One of our more sensitive-stomached furballs has taken to the new food like a pro - no issues at all. Though, I do have to admit, he's a bit of a bottomless pit and asks for more way too often!
And then there's the bonus of some seriously rosy cheeks after a couple of weeks on this food:
I've found that not every cat food suits my only girl in the feline pride, but this one is a winner - she loves it. The only downside is that she eats less of it and gets full quickly.
Honestly, I've got mixed feelings about this food. My pets absolutely love it, more so than those pricier brands. They gobble it up with glee, even the picky ones. Plus, it's a steal - the price is unbeatable. I mean, it's a no-brainer to feed seven animals with this food instead of something like Royal or Grandorf. But, I have to admit, the ingredients do raise some concerns. I'm not saying it's a bad food, and the ratings are decent, but it's not perfect.
I'm still undecided whether to stick with this food or go back to other brands. But, I do recommend it - the value for money is spot on. I'm deducting a star for the ingredients, but in this price range, it's a solid choice.
