Hello everyone!
I think it's no secret what's going on in the world right now. In Russia, unlike some other countries, there's no official lockdown, but people are advised to follow a self-isolation regime and stay at home as much as possible.
For me, staying cooped up at home was a real challenge, but I really want the pandemic to be over as soon as possible, so I've been trying to avoid going out unless absolutely necessary. I only leave the house to take out the trash at night when everyone's asleep, just to minimize the risk of spreading the virus - and who knows, I could be a carrier myself.
Luckily, most things can be delivered right to your doorstep these days, which is exactly what I've been doing.
Today, I'm going to share my experience with Okley's delivery service. And, unfortunately, this review is going to be a negative one. But let's get into the details.
My first delivery was back in the first week of self-isolation, courtesy of iGoods. When I realized my supplies were running low, I started looking for alternative delivery services, because every penny counts right now. I wanted to find a service with the minimum delivery cost possible - and that's where Okley comes in. You can check out their delivery prices here.
The website and ordering process
Main website page Product sectionWhen I landed on the site, I started browsing product pages and adding interesting items to my cart, so I could take my time choosing what I really needed and what I could do without.
I was immediately asked to enter my address and offered a choice of delivery dates. It was April 12th. The next available delivery date was April 16th. But I wasn't surprised – I figured it was a busy time. I'll probably discuss this in another review. By the way, on April 15th, the next delivery date for my address was April 20th.
Even though I chose the maximum possible time slot – all day (11 am to 10 pm) – I got a countdown timer window popping up after 60 minutes. Apparently, this delivery time slot was booked for me for an hour.
I stuffed a few products into my cart and chose the nearest interval to show how the countdown looks likeI'm not a big fan of rushing to the store and grabbing everything without thinking. I prefer online shopping - it's chill, I can take my time, and avoid the risk of catching something or getting caught in a crowded store. So, an hour - especially on a new site - feels like a real challenge. My 'leisurely stroll' turned into a sprint.
It took me some effort to gather my thoughts and complete the order (there aren't many payment options available now, which I thought would be the case with contactless delivery). The money was deducted from my card immediately, although the transaction didn't show up in my bank statements right away.
One thing I noticed is that you can't add or remove items from your order after you've placed it, but before it's been assembled - that's a bit inconvenient for me. Maybe it's because I paid upfront.
Order assembly confirmation
On the evening of April 15th, I got a call from an unknown number on my phone. The girl on the other end said she was from Okay Delivery and started rattling off about missing items and replacements. To be honest, I had a hard time following her, and I'd already forgotten what I'd ordered, so I asked her to replace anything she could. She also told me that if I wasn't satisfied with anything, I could return it to the courier during delivery. Just as we were hanging up, I got an email saying my order was ready to be shipped. I could finally take a closer look and make sense of it.

So what do we see here?
Apparently, they only have one type of butter in stock and it's out of stock. I'm stumped as to why they didn't replace it with something else.
Same story with the beans. I'd specified in the order notes that I wanted a different type of bean, as long as it had a lid with a key (I don't have a can opener). It looks like they just removed it from the order instead of replacing it.
Another thing that's got me stumped is why the weight of the apples changed when I swapped out the variety. I mean, I'm talking a two-fold difference here!
I was trying to avoid talking about shipping speed, but I guess I'm not going to get out of it. I get that there's a huge load on all delivery services right now, but why do some manage to handle it while others don't? I mean, it's not like it takes a genius to figure out that having a week-long wait between order and pickup is a recipe for disaster. And let's be real, stores can run out of stock at any time.
By the way, let's take a look at what's going on. As you can see, my order is missing the store-brand 200g sugar powder. Yeah, they did end up replacing it, but the new one cost twice as much and had half the weight...
Let's check the app. I'm not changing the delivery address (the store is chosen automatically, based on my location). I'm looking for that same sugar powder.
And there it is. No notes about it being out of stock. Let's try adding it to the cart.
And it worked like a charm!
I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one. The website doesn't even show if the item is in stock. What's the point of an online store if you can't even see what's available? Are they just assuming the item will be in stock by the time it's delivered? Or is that how this whole thing works? I've got a ton of questions and hardly any answers.xa0
Okay, let's get back to our order, aka the sheep we're trying to herd. Even though the email said we could change the items in our cart, that's just not true. Once you finalize your order, the items are gone from the cart and you're left with two options: cancel the order or start over.
Possible actions with your order after it's been assembledI decided to try contacting the store in a different way. I started calling the hotline number listed on the website, but all I got was an automated message saying all operators were busy and I'd get a call back when one was free. I waited for a while, but never got a call back. So, I sent an email to the address listed on the website. Guess what? Same result.

Delivery day
I was surprised when the courier called me at 10:50. I mean, I was expecting to wait all day for the delivery. He asked for my apartment number and floor, which I had already provided when I placed the order, but I started explaining it to him again (our building has some quirks with finding the right entrance). He told me to expect the delivery in about an hour and a half... so we waited some more.

And sure enough, about an hour and a half later, the doorbell rang. I looked through the peephole and saw the courier holding packages. He wasn't wearing gloves or a mask, by the way. I opened the door and he was ready to carry the packages all the way into the apartment, but I asked him to leave them by the door. Then I had to sign for the delivery and wait for him to print out the receipt. I don't get why they couldn't have done that beforehand, considering the order had been fulfilled over 12 hours ago. It's not exactly what you'd call 'contactless delivery'...
My order
Order fulfillment
So, I got five packages in total - three big ones and two smaller ones hidden inside.
A bunch of half-empty packages Of course, it's great when the store sorts products by type - fruits and veggies separately, dairy and perishables separately, household stuff separately, and so on. But! My order consisted only of food products. And honestly, I'm baffled as to why they put the egg packaging in a separate bag. And even though the bags are eco-friendly, it's still unnecessary trash.
Let's take a look inside.
Here's the invoice they included with the order.
I'm only questioning these two items. I didn't order them. They're not on the invoice either. A gift from the store? That's sweet, but it would've been better if they'd delivered what I actually needed.
Quality and shelf life
This, in my opinion, is a complete failure.
iGoods really set the bar high for delivery. The fruits that arrived with this service were perfect. I mean, I'm not even sure I could have picked out such fresh, ripe, and tasty ones myself. And the best part is that they were all well within their expiration dates, even the longer-lasting stuff.

Check out the photo below, taken by Okay store. The bananas are starting to brown; the oranges look pretty unappealing and most of them are soft, like they've been frozen or are starting to rot. The only thing I can criticize is the apples. And that's only because I don't buy them often (and with the kilogram I got, I'll be set for a year!)
And then there's the expiration dates. Check out the eggs and milk in the photo below.
I mean, the eggs are still good for more than three weeks, but I always try to buy the freshest ones possible - with a manufacture date of 2-3 days ago, because the 10-pack usually lasts me almost a month. As you can see, these eggs are already a week old.
And the milk? Forget about it. It's already past its halfway mark. What's the point of that?
Wrapping things up: you could say I got what I paid for - literally. I saved on shipping, but some products I had to reorder elsewhere, and others I'll need to buy again soon. Update 20.04: it took four days from the time I wrote this review for the order to arrive, on April 16th. Fast forward to today, April 20th. I opened the milk packaging today, and guess what? It was past its expiration date and already spoiled, not just past its prime.
This is how my banana looks now. Normally, they stay fresh for a week or more and look a lot better than this.
Now it's just one product left.
I wouldn't recommend it.
Thanks for reading!
Other reviews on delivery services:
A lot cheaper than I thought. I compared prices at iGoods and Okée. Samokat's app - delivery of products in under 30 minutes or less
