Step into the past at this historic Venice, Italy cafe, serving authentic Italian flavors since 1720. The ornate decor and rich aromas from the espresso machine transport you to a bygone era. You'll feel like you're in the midst of a centuries-old tradition, where every sip and bite is a taste of history.

A pricey cafe on Piazza San Marco that's worth a visit, but perhaps not for breakfast

summarizeEditor's Summary

I stumbled upon this famous cafe on Piazza San Marco, and while it's a pricey option, the atmosphere's hard to beat. If you're looking for a unique spot to grab a coffee or dessert, this place delivers. However, if you're on a tight budget or need a quick breakfast, you might want to look elsewhere. The hotel buffet down the street is a more affordable and efficient option. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're willing to splurge.

We were on the hunt for a decent and Instagram-worthy breakfast spot in Venice, but we found it to be a tough task. Grabbing breakfast at the hotel buffet would have been a better option - it's cheaper, more varied, and faster.
The night before, we stumbled upon an old cafe on St. Mark's Square, and we decided to give it a shot the next morning.
The cafe was already open, despite it being early, and it was surprisingly busy. This cafe is super popular and famous, and everyone wants to grab a coffee or try the tiramisu here.
We wanted to try it out too, so we headed over the next morning.
There's a sign at the entrance that says to wait for a free table if needed, but in the morning, there weren't many people, so we got to pick our own spot.
The cafe itself is super old-school, with paintings and sculptures everywhere, and the interior is super pretty. The waitstaff are all dressed in white, and the service is top-notch, even the table settings and food presentation are on point.
The menu is huge, but mostly just desserts and drinks, and it's a cafe, but super pricey. I had a lovely cup of tea and a croissant with apricot jam, and my partner had fish with fish and a coffee.
The bill came out to 52 euros, and our order arrived pretty quickly. While we were waiting, the cafe was filling up with people - it's a pretty big place.
My croissant was fresh and delicious, with the apricot jam inside, and the tea was also great, the cafe's own brand. My partner's food was also up to a good standard.
We had a nice time, but nothing that really stood out. I was a bit underwhelmed by the food, but it was still good.
The cafe is a great spot to grab a photo to prove you were there, but only if you're looking for a quick bite. The waterfront is simply breathtaking, and there are plenty of stunning views of St. Mark's Square and the surrounding area.
The location of the cafe is absolutely perfect - it's right in the heart of St. Mark's Square. This square is one of the most beautiful in all of Europe.
I'll be posting more photos of the area around the cafe, including some of the stunning views of St. Mark's Square and a bit further afield. There were stalls selling masks nearby - you could even try one on.
I was a bit shy, but I snapped a photo of the girl - I'll also show you where you can buy masks near the cafe. Prices varied - from 12 euros to who-knows-what.
The cafe really stood out. It's definitely worth a visit, but be prepared for some sticker shock. We didn't exactly get a great value for money with breakfast here.
But we did enjoy the interior, service, the old-school vibe, and the location. There were two couples sitting nearby - one ordered a coffee, the others got coffee and tiramisu.
