My Journey with Dry Eye Syndrome and Oftagel
Hello!
I've had two eye surgeries, and after all these surgeries, I went through several routine check-ups. The first one showed that I had extremely dry eyes. My doctor compared what it was like before the surgery and after, using a machine. And the thing is, because of this dryness, the first vision test showed that my vision had actually gotten worse. One eye could see 0.8, the other 0.9, instead of 1.0 respectively. And this was just a month later.
At my first check-up a month later, the doctor figured out that the decline in vision was directly related to the dryness in my eyes. He put some lubricating drops in my eyes, and after that, I could see really well again within 10 minutes. One eye could see 1.0, and the other even 1.2.
Given how severe the dryness was, I was prescribed Balarpan. But I had another major problem. In the mornings, I just couldn't open my eyes. It's an indescribable feeling when you wake up and can't open your eyes fully. My eyelids were literally stuck together. And I really wanted to rub my eyes to get them unstuck, but I wasn't supposed to do that after the surgery because I had to be gentle with my eyes. So, I blinked a lot until my eyes finally opened normally.
Another thing that was a challenge for me was that I work on a computer, and I work remotely. And sometimes I'd wake up just 10 minutes before my workday started. And with eyes like that, it was really tough to get any work done, because my eyes wouldn't feel normal until about half an hour after I woke up.
I told my doctor all of this, and he prescribed me Oftagel for nighttime use.
I bought Oftagel for 570 rubles. It comes in a cardboard package. On it, you'll find the ingredients and the manufacturer. And, as it turns out, it's made in Germany.
On the bottle, you'll find the expiration date, and it's also stated that you should use it within 28 days of opening.
Honestly, I've been using it way beyond the 28-day mark because I don't need it that often. But I'm not saying you should do the same. I'm just sharing my experience. In my opinion, its effectiveness doesn't decrease after the 28-day period.
Oftagel comes with a user manual.
The manual states that you should instill 1 to 4 drops into your eyes per day, which implies you should use it during the day as well. But to be honest, I'm not sure how you'd use it during the day, considering the gel is way thicker than regular eye drops.
When you put it in, it's like a fog comes over your eyes, so you can barely see anything. Plus, if you don't close your eyes, it just kind of trickles out. So, in my opinion, it's definitely a nighttime treatment. I used to do all my bedtime stuff first – get changed, set my alarm, and then apply Oftagel so I could just close my eyes and go to sleep right away.
My doctor told me to keep using Oftagel until my symptoms went away, and then just use it symptomatically. So, if my nighttime eyelid sticking starts up again, I'll start using it again. It's pretty rare for me, but it happens more often when I'm working on my computer all day and then watching TV shows on it late at night. But that's super rare. Now, after just one application before bed, my symptoms are gone.
Originally, it took me three weeks to completely get rid of my symptoms. Then I kept using it for another week just as a precaution.
Here are the key points about my experience with Oftagel:
It's a nighttime treatment for dry eye syndrome. It's made in Germany and comes in a cardboard package. The expiration date is on the bottle, and it should be used within 28 days of opening. It's thicker than regular eye drops, so it's not suitable for daytime use. It's effective, even after the 28-day period. It comes with a user manual that recommends instilling 1 to 4 drops per day.The verdict is clear: after I started using Balarpan during the day and Oftagel at night, my eye problems disappeared. My vision is back to normal, and the nighttime dryness that was causing my eyelids to stick together is completely gone. So, I highly recommend Oftagel. And if you have really severe dry eyes like I did, I'd suggest using it in combination with Balarpan.
