I've lived in Donetsk for a while, and let me tell you, our power grid is a real nightmare. The voltage fluctuates all over the place, and we get frequent power outages followed by sudden restarts. It's like the lights are having a seizure - it's a constant struggle to keep everything running smoothly. My old aquarium heater, the Jewel Rio 240, finally gave up the ghost, and I needed to replace it. But the original model is hard to find due to sanctions, and even if I could find it, I was worried it would be a gamble in our unstable power environment. I started looking for alternative models that could handle the task.
It wasn't a pressing issue during the summer, as the water was warm enough for my fish. But in October, I started searching for a new heater that could handle the task. I was looking for something with more than 200 watts, as my old Jewel Rio was always reliable and never ran out of power. The indicator light never went out, and it was powerful enough to keep the 240-liter tank at the right temperature without straining the power grid.
I ended up ordering the Naribo HT-300 on Ozon, which promised 300 watts of power. However, the first unit I received was only 100 watts. I had to return it and re-order from a different seller. Thankfully, the second unit arrived with the correct specifications.
My fish were shivering the whole time, but as soon as I set up the new heater and turned it on, they swarmed around it, eager to get warm. Once the entire tank was heated up, they started swimming and playing around again.
🛠️ The Nitty-Gritty Details About This Heater:
The Naribo HT-300 is a 32 cm long and 3 cm in diameter heater that comes with two suction cups. The body is made of glass, which looks sturdy, and there's a rubber grommet at the bottom to prevent the heater from breaking if it accidentally falls on the tank's gravel. The plug is a standard Russian one, which was a pleasant surprise - lately, everything I buy seems to come with European plugs, and I've started hunting for adapters.
The power cord, however, is a joke. It's ridiculously short - only 75 cm. I got lucky because the outlet is right above my aquarium, but I can imagine other buyers might have trouble finding a suitable spot. The water temperature rose from 19 to 25 degrees Celsius in about 5-6 hours. According to the specs, this heater is designed to handle tanks with a capacity of 230-350 liters.
I was told this thing can work fully submerged, but there's a label on the body that says "Minimum water level", so it's not like it's designed to be fully underwater all the time. To be honest, I'm not a fan of fully submerging it - I'm always worried water will seep in and give me a shock. So, I've just hung it vertically with the head and temperature regulator above the water line.
The cord, though? It's a joke. Mine's only 75cm long. I guess I got lucky - we've got a bunch of outlets near our aquarium for different things, not just the aquarium. Here's a photo of them all. The heater's in the far left corner, but it's not visible. The plug's stuck in the outlet to the right of the mechanical timer romboid. Other potential buyers might want to think about whether this short cord will work with their outlets. And even if the heater is submerged fully, if it's hanging horizontally, for example, it's unlikely the plug will reach the outlet. You can see the indicator on the body that lights up when it's turned on and stays lit until the temperature reaches the set degrees on the regulator.
The temperature regulator's scale goes from 17 to 35 degrees, but it's marked in tiny black text on a black background, so it's hard to read. It's not super accurate, to be honest - I've got it set to 27 degrees, but my aquarium thermometer says it's actually 25. Still, I don't think that's a huge deal - I just know to set it a bit higher until I reach the right temperature. After that, it does a great job of keeping the temperature stable in the aquarium - it's only off by about half a degree. Here's a photo of the regulator in action. I made sure to install the heater in a spot where the water flow is strong, so it doesn't overheat and the water in the tank heats up evenly. That's exactly what I did - I placed it right next to the outlet of the air pump's nozzle, which runs along the length of the tank. And that's where the main water flow comes out. I positioned the heater in that corner, but in a way that the water flows alongside it, rather than directly onto it. Here's a photo of the heater from the side, with the indicator light on and the water heating up. This little heater has been running for three months now, and it's handled the frequent power outages and light flickering like a champ. (I'm knocking on wood, though!) That's a big plus in my book. It's suitable for both marine and freshwater tanks.
🔥 I'm really happy with this heater, and I'd definitely recommend it - the only thing that might be a drawback is the relatively short power cord.
🌸 To everyone who made it to the end of my review, I wish you all the best, happiness, and successful purchases!
