After running the gauntlet of doctor's appointments, I learned that scientists have completely flipped their approach to eating. Gone are the days of eating five or six small meals a day, with the right food, not drinking with meals, not overeating, getting up from the table feeling slightly peckish, and all that jazz...
Now, the rules are all about three square meals a day - a full breakfast, lunch, and a light dinner. It's basically intermittent fasting, where you eat for eight hours a day. My endocrinologist confirmed that this system is actually really good for the body, as long as there are no contraindications. Plus, it's a good idea to limit sugar intake, especially at dinner.
I don't strictly follow the intermittent fasting schedule, but my breakfast is always around 10 am, lunch at 2-3 pm, and dinner at 6 pm. Sometimes, my meal times shift by an hour or so.
I've got pretty much no restrictions - I even consulted with a dietitian, and they gave me the same advice...

On this diet, I can pretty much have whatever I want, with a few exceptions (listed above). If I'm planning to indulge in something really bad, I'll save it for the first half of the day. And on Sundays, I'll sometimes treat myself to a whole chocolate bar with my coffee - after a proper breakfast, of course.
My top tip: try eating dessert after meals. It's a game-changer! Not only will you feel fuller, but you'll also avoid those pesky insulin spikes that leave you craving more sweets. Trust me, it's a habit that's stuck with me.
