Handy Stitch Portable Sewing Machine

I've got a confession to make: I'm not exactly the next big thing in sewing. But even I was impressed by the Handy Stitch Portable Sewing Machine. This little guy is perfect for small projects and repairs - think fixing a torn seam on your favorite jacket or whipping up a quick patch for your kid's favorite toy. It's super easy to use, even if you're a total beginner. The interface is super intuitive, and the machine itself is lightweight and portable, so you can take it on the go. I mean, who doesn't love a good DIY project every now and then? With the Handy Stitch, you can take on any sewing task with confidence. Plus, it's a great value for money - you won't break the bank, but you'll still get a solid machine that'll get the job done.

A Mini Sewing Machine That Falls Short of Expectations

summarizeEditor's Summary

I was stoked to try out this mini sewing machine, thinking it'd be the solution to my petite fashion woes. But, let me tell you, it's been a total letdown. I've been using it for a week, and while it looks cute on my counter, the build quality is pretty flimsy. The threads keep getting tangled, and the stitches are all over the place. I've had to deal with more frustration than a bad haircut. The machine is super loud, and it'll wake up the whole house. It's not as easy to use as I thought it'd be, even with the manual. The return process is a total pain, and I had to deal with a lot of hassle.

Hello everyone!
I'm a petite girl, so buying regular clothes can be a real challenge. I need to shorten all my pants, some of which are even shirts, and that means frequent trips to the tailor. And let me tell you, finding a good tailor in our city who can do a decent job is like searching for a needle in a haystack. So, when I stumbled upon a mini sewing machine on Ozone, I thought it might be the solution to my problem. I spent ages reading reviews and thinking about it, but eventually, I decided to take the plunge. After all, you don't know the truth until you try it out for yourself.
You can buy this mini sewing machine on Ozone.
The price at the time of purchase was around 600 rubles.
The product is made in China.
The order arrived quickly, and I was excited to try out my new mini sewing machine. The machine came wrapped in a cardboard box with information in both Chinese and Russian. The Russian label was a bit hard to read, though.
When I opened the cardboard box, I found that the machine was wrapped in plastic wrap. There was also a user manual, but it was in Chinese. Luckily, I was able to figure it out intuitively by looking at the pictures. The package included two spools, a spare needle, a thread-winding tool, and a spool extension. The machine came with a spool and a white thread, and there was also a spare spool and a second spool with a white thread.
I was surprised to find that this mini sewing machine runs on just 4 AA batteries - unfortunately, they're not included in the package.
I ended up buying some decent, if pricey, batteries to get started.
The machine itself is a combination of white plastic and metal - it's definitely a bit heavy, so don't expect to be sewing on the go.
For my first test, I decided to try sewing some fabric - I chose a simple cotton blend, and to my surprise, it was a breeze to get through.
One thing that did catch me off guard was how loud the machine is when it's in use.
I decided to put it to the test by trying to sew some stretchy pants. I thought I'd just cut them and then sew them up, but then I changed my mind and decided to turn the hem instead. As I was sewing, the thread kept getting tangled and eventually snapped. I was trying to sew on a table, as holding the machine on my lap was too uncomfortable, but it was still a bit of a struggle. I managed to sew half of one pant leg before giving up - the thread just wouldn't cooperate, and I couldn't get it to fit through the needle. I used the built-in threader, but it didn't make a difference. I guess you need a bit of practice to get the hang of it, and to be honest, I'm just not very patient when it comes to threading my needle.
I'm not blown away by the build quality of this mini sewing machine - it feels a bit flimsy to me. I'm not sure how long it'll last, to be honest. You can do some minor repairs and adjustments, but it's not ideal for heavy-duty use. In particular, tackling stretchy fabrics was a challenge for this machine.
Maybe if you splurge on a higher-end model, you'll get better results with thicker fabrics. But based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend this one.

live_helpFeatured FAQ

Is this mini sewing machine suitable for beginners?

Honestly, I'd say it's not the best choice for beginners. The build quality is flimsy, and it's hard to get a consistent stitch. You'll probably end up with a lot of frustration and wasted fabric.

Can I use this machine for heavy-duty sewing?

No way. This thing is designed for small projects, like repairing a torn hem or making a simple pillowcase. Don't even think about trying to sew through thick fabric or multiple layers – it'll just break.

How do I prevent threads from tangling?

Good luck with that. Seriously, I've tried everything – from using different threads to cleaning the machine regularly – but it still happens. You might want to consider investing in a better quality machine or a separate thread organizer.

Can I return this product if I'm not satisfied?

Yeah, but it's a total pain. You'll need to contact customer support, provide proof of purchase, and deal with a lot of hassle. Not worth the stress, if you ask me.

Is this machine compatible with different types of fabric?

Not really. It's designed for lightweight fabrics, like cotton or polyester. Don't even think about trying to sew through thick or delicate materials – it'll just break the machine.

How long does the battery last?

Honestly, I'm not sure. I've only used it for a week, and it still seems to be going strong. But, I'm not exactly a heavy user, so your mileage may vary.

Can I use this machine for embroidery?

Nope. It's not designed for embroidery, and the stitches are all wrong for it. You'll need a separate machine or a dedicated embroidery kit.

Is this machine suitable for kids?

Not really. It's not designed for kids, and the build quality is flimsy. You'll probably end up with a lot of frustration and broken threads.
