Hello there!
I'm excited to share my thoughts about this adorable bath bomb. I know it's marketed towards little girls, but I was thrilled when it fizzled out! To be honest, it's been sitting on my shelf for almost a year, waiting for its turn. But recently, I decided to treat myself to a relaxing bath and I was delighted. I'll tell you more about it.
Here's how the brand describes their bath bombs:
Bath bombs contain sodium bicarbonate and citric acid. As a result, they effectively clean and improve the skin's condition. The main benefit of bath bombs lies in their ability to relax both the body and mind. When dissolved in water, all muscles relax.
MÉLISA Unicorn Bath BombBrand: MÉLISA.Country of origin: Russia.Price starts from 200 rubles per unit (according to the reviews I found). However, I also came across a price range of 350-360 rubles (which seems to be the current one).Where to buy: You can find these bath bombs in small beauty studios, specialized stores in Orenburg, or order them from the same salons' online platforms. It's easy to find them. I received this bath bomb as a gift in exchange for another present.Packaging
First off, the packaging is a plastic wrap that's not just for show – it's actually a necessary step to keep the product safe. I've learned that bath bombs are made with salt, and salt doesn't like moisture, so this wrap helps preserve the product. The packaging also has a sticker label with the brand's logo on the front.
MÉLISA Unicorn Bath BombThe back of the packaging has some info about the product and the manufacturer. I'll try to cover all the important details in this review, and I'll include some quotes where relevant.
MÉLISA Unicorn Bath BombAbout the Bath BombApparently, the manufacturer considers this product to be part of their kids' range, but I'm not one to argue with a bit of cuteness. Even if the formula is slightly different from their adult range, that's actually a good thing – it means I can get the fizz and dissolution I'm looking for.
From a design perspective, it's a fairly classic-looking pink, rough-textured sphere with a whipped cream-inspired top and some sprinkles, and on top of that, you've got the ears and horn of a unicorn. Spoiler alert: the ears and horn are actually just soap, which I'll show you later.
UNICORN BOMB – a 3-in-1 product that's a fizzing geiser, a rich lather, and a gentle soap.
MÉLISA Unicorn Bomb for Bath Storage tips: keep the bomb away from direct sunlight and high temperatures. Ideal storage temperature ranges from 10 to 30 degrees Celsius.
Why keep it that way?
Avoid contact with water. It's best to store the product in a dark, dry place, like a closet or dresser. This way, high humidity won't damage your favorite spa treatment.
The bomb comes in a soft pink color, but you can spot some darker specks, like denser crystals or pigment dots. The ball feels slightly rough, but not prickly. That's exactly what you'd expect from a well-pressed bomb.
Scent peeks through the plastic wrap, and it's subtle. I'd compare it to a strawberry-milk scent, but it's not quite that. It's more like a cosmetic gel with a floral perfume composition. That's my take, at least. The smell is barely noticeable through the wrap, but it becomes more apparent when you use it. I actually like the scent – it's quirky. And little girls will love it too.
MÉLISA Unicorn Bath Bomb I have to say, the shape of this bath bomb is super durable. I've had other bath bombs that were just smooth, and they'd get a little crumpled just from being handled. But this one has been sitting in a box with other bath bombs and soap for a year, and it still looks brand new. The raised 'equator' line is still super clear - that's really impressive. MÉLISA Unicorn Bath Bomb But the real showstopper is the idea of a cream with a horn. The horn is a nice golden color, and it doesn't get all water-stained. The glitter on top did fall off when I got it wet, but while it was dry, it was just so pretty to look at. I mean, who can resist a bath bomb that looks like a unicorn? How to Use
Of course, the only real way to use a bath bomb is to drop it in the water and watch it fizz, but the manufacturer thinks you can turn this into a full-on relaxation ritual:
get yourself into a warm bath at 36°C to 38°C, with the water already filled with bubbles, then drop the bomb in and just relax and enjoy the experience for 20 minutes.
Just don't forget about the potential contraindications:
I've had some issues with individual sensitivities to certain components in the past.
Who can use it:
Bath bombs are super versatile and can be used by anyone: spa enthusiasts, athletes, romantics, and people who often deal with stressful situations.
Why I love it:
Bath bombs are ridiculously easy to use. No need to measure out the right amount or volume – they're pre-dosed, so just toss one in the water.
I filled the tub with store-bought bubble bath, dropped in the bath bomb, and watched as the top detached and disappeared. I managed to find the rubber ducky at the bottom of the tub, but the white 'cream' was nowhere to be found – I figured it must have dissolved.
The bath bomb started to fizz immediately. It wasn't a crazy-strong fizz, but you could see the soap suds spreading out in all directions. And yeah, it did take about 20 minutes to fully dissolve – a pretty long time, if I'm being honest.
My takeaways
To get the full experience, there's one simple rule to follow:
Don't open the bath bomb until you're ready to use it. If you break the seal, the bath bomb will absorb moisture from the air and lose its effectiveness.
I'm happy to report that my bubble bath has held up really well, and it still smells amazing - like a delicate floral and fruity scent. Plus, it's been great at foaming up, and I've been able to control the size and intensity of the bubbles.
MÉLISA Единорожка Bubble BathThe sound of the bubbles is almost nonexistent - I had to hold it right up to my ear to even hear it. As you can see, the soap has held its shape pretty well (even after 5 minutes in the water, the gold color still hasn't faded, and it hasn't melted too much): MÉLISA Единорожка Bubble BathAnd here's what it looks like after about 5 minutes: MÉLISA Единорожка Bath Bomb Just 10 minutes in, and the bath bomb had lost its spherical shape, no longer smooth, but rather rough and cratered: MÉLISA Единорожка Bath Bomb Still, it was still foaming nicely: But as soon as I removed my hand, it flipped over in the water, and a small indentation formed at the top. I guess it's some law of physics at play, but it's pretty cool to watch: The water turned a lovely shade of pink almost instantly. It's not a bright, crystal-clear pink, and it's not a murky, cold-looking one either. It's more of a muted pink, but it didn't stain the tub, which is a relief, considering my tub is already a bit old and prone to staining from hair dye: At this point, the bath bomb was about the size of a small egg, and the foam was starting to dissipate. One thing that's still happening around it is the formation of foam, but I wouldn't say the foam is super dense. The real fun is in the process of watching it bubble and seeing the little ball melt. If you need foam, it's better to take care of that before submerging the bomb in the bath, as the manufacturer recommends.
And here's the little crown I found. I discovered it towards the end of the process when it floated up into my hands. That was a surprise! It feels just as rough and bubbly as the rest of the ball, and it smells the same too.
I stuck the little crown to a homemade green soap I made so I wouldn't lose it. And you know what? It's attracting a moth! I showed the picture to my sister and she said, 'That's a moth!' Now I'm having a hard time unseeing it. The soap lathers just like any other soap, although it's definitely different from the store-bought kind. My homemade soap is just as good, though. Kids would love this!
Skin effects
The first thing that usually bothers me about bath bombs is the salt, which seems to dry out my skin. Not always, but often. But here, that's not the case. Neither on the first day nor the next did my skin feel dry or tight. I applied lotion and cream to my hands and legs, and lotion to the rest of my body, without feeling any dryness or tightness on any part of my skin.
No irritation whatsoever. I've got plenty of scratches and scuffs on my hands, but not a single one of them turned red - except for the one on my pinky finger. But I'm pretty sure that's just because I scalded myself first, then went and grabbed a cactus brush with the same hand. Nor were there any redness, or allergic reactions to speak of.
The skin didn't react at all. The lingering scent after the skin had fully dried was still pretty noticeable for up to 15 minutes. Maybe that's a good thing - it means there weren't too many harsh chemicals in there.
The skin looked healthy, nicely moisturized, of course - I'm not one to forget about skincare, but still. If there was even the slightest hint that this product had done some damage, I'd have noticed. But everything's looking good. The feeling of relaxation after a bath like this is really something special. I find myself wanting to dry my hair and curl up under the blankets with the TV on. It's super calming. And the skin feels smooth and silky afterwards - it's a really nice sensation.
The product's ingredients
On the label, you can find the full ingredient list in Russian - it's super easy to read. The standard ingredient list is what you'd expect, but there are a few things that stood out to me:
Baking soda helps to soften and smooth the skin, getting rid of dryness, psoriasis, and acne. It's great at cleaning the skin of dead cells and unclogging pores.
The dry milk in this bomb contains proteins, sugars, enzymes, vitamins, and minerals - everything you need for healthy and beautiful skin overall.
I was surprised to see milk in the ingredients. I've never seen a bath bomb with milk before, but it might be why my skin felt so great after the bath?
Citric acid works like a gentle chemical peel without any flaky patches. The skin becomes more elastic, skin cells renew faster, wrinkles decrease, and the skin tone evens out.
My verdict on the product
I think this is a fantastic bath bomb. I love all things unicorn and sparkly, but I'm pretty sure my enthusiasm has something to do with more than just that. Let's summarize the qualities that make it stand out:
This bath bomb is stunning, and I'm not just saying that because of its appearance. The scent is pleasant and not overpowering. It's a 3-in-1 deal: soap, foam, and salt. It's gentle on my skin. And it doesn't stain the tub.Plus, it has moisturizing properties.I feel relaxed when I use it.I know it sounds like a luxury, but trust me, it's a must-have for any spa fan. I've even seen it recommended for kids, but let's be real, adults need a little indulgence now and then too. And the best part? It's not too pricey. In fact, it's a great gift idea. I was thrilled when I got it as a gift, and I've been enjoying it ever since. I'd definitely recommend it – and I'm giving it 5 stars!
Thanks for sticking with me! All done)
