Acrylic Tub Cleaner Review: Meine Liebe

Why I Bought This Product

I used to swear by Pemo Lux for cleaning my bathroom - it's cheap and gets the job done! But then I decided to ditch it because the powder form releases particles into the air, and we inhale them. I was a long-time user of Domestos, which is supposedly a powerhouse of a cleaner and does lots of things, but in reality, it just didn't cut it for me in terms of effectiveness.

We've got an acrylic bathtub, and my son loves playing with it, especially with toy cars. After each play session, we'd find all these colored stripes on the tub - black, red, yellow, you name it. At first, we thought it was just scratches, but it turned out the colors were from the toy cars leaving behind paint residue. None of the cleaners we had helped with this problem at all, so I really needed to try something new.

I had a good feeling about Meine Liebe because my sister used it to remove a thick layer of grime that nothing else could touch. A friend also swears by the Meine Liebe stain remover pen, saying it's super effective!

My only experience with Meine LIEBE so far was with their eco laundry powder for kids, and to be honest, I was underwhelmed. You can read more about that in my review of the powder.

Where I Bought It and the Price

I ordered this gel on Ozonn because it was cheaper than in stores, and they often have sales. We've actually made 7 orders on Ozon since April, and you can read more about it in my review of Ozon.

The price of the spray at the time of purchase was 141.45 rubles for 500 ml. Without any discounts, the product costs 269 rubles.

Of course, Ozon had a lot of different gels for acrylic baths, but what caught my attention was the brand's reputation and the phrase in the description: "gives acrylic surfaces their original purity and shine".

The spray comes in a transparent bottle with a sprayer. The product itself is green in color. One thing I noticed on the packaging is all the eco-friendly labels.

The nozzle has two modes: on and off. I was expecting something like a wide or narrow spray mode, but this one's pretty straightforward.

How to Use

I was really excited to try it out! As soon as I opened the package, I headed straight to the bathroom to give it a test run. The label says you can't use it on surfaces sensitive to acid, but I couldn't find any info on what specific surfaces that refers to.

So far, I've only used the spray on my bathroom surfaces, including metal parts – so far, so good! I've also tried spraying it on the tile above my bathtub.

Using it on a damp surface is a must: spray, wait for 3-5 minutes, wipe, rinse if needed, and repeat the process if needed. Spray it from about 20-25 cm away, so don't do it from across the room. You'll need to press the trigger quite a few times to cover the whole shower, and let me tell you, the can goes through the liquid quickly! I used up this much of the spray for just three uses.

As you can see, the cans won't last you forever.

The scent of the spray is something to talk about. On the one hand, it's a lovely, sweet, fruity smell that's actually quite pleasant when used in small doses. But on the other hand, if you end up spraying too much of it, like I often do, it's almost impossible to enter the bathroom because the smell is so overpowering. It's like it hits your lungs right away.

Since the spray is eco-friendly, that's a big plus for some people, especially those with little ones at home. However, I think even the most patient parent wouldn't let their kid run around in a room with such a strong smell. You'd need to air out the place for a while.

Testing the Effectiveness of the Spray:

1. Colorful streaks from toys in the shower. Check out how they look - this is just a small part of the shower, and they're everywhere!

BeforeAfter spraying, none of the stains came off - absolutely nothing changed. They didn't even fade. In short, these stains are a real pain to deal with.

After2. Soap scum on the shower Our shower doesn't get much natural light, so the soap scum is pretty hard to spot. I had to go into Photoshop and adjust the brightness to make it visible on the photo.

On the Before photo, you can see a yellow stain where the drain is located. There's also soap scum on the vertical wall of the shower.

BeforeHere, on the After photo, you can see that the stain on the horizontal surface is gone, but the one on the vertical wall is still there - you can only see a few faint streaks of lighter color.

AfterI repeated the process on the shower wall a day later.

On the Before photo, you can see that the soap scum is concentrated at the bottom of the shower, and there are also streaks from the previous cleaning.

3. Faucet. It's still got that white residue from hard water.

After.After.4. Bathroom tiles. They're all covered in residue too, but it's hard to notice because the lighting isn't great. Super convenient, though!

Before. I applied the cleaner to a wet surface, just like it's supposed to be, and it just sprayed it around. Then, after waiting a bit, I wiped it off and rinsed it. You can see that the cleaner was beading up and only seemed to get the grime off in a few isolated spots. It's not even 50% of the surface that got cleaned - it's much less than that. And weirdly, it made the whole thing look worse than it did before. Doing it again didn't change the situation.

My Verdict

This cleaner is supposed to be gentle yet effective, but it's definitely not as effective as my sister's 'Meine Liebe' clear cleaner for her sink. And weirdly, the manufacturer describes it as high-performance! But the question is, is it suitable for acrylic bathtubs?

I didn't notice any superpower in this spray. I also find the spray format for the shower not very convenient. It's a waste of the product to spray the whole surface of the shower. And it's also annoying to spray the edges of the shower, the spray goes everywhere. Any gel can be foamed on a sponge by squeezing out a small amount of the product. And it won't be floating in the air. As a result, each use requires a lot of product, and the strong smell of the spray makes it hard to breathe in the bathroom. And the amount of product used is huge.

The product can fight plaque, but it doesn't always do it on the first try. The effectiveness is noticeably lower on vertical surfaces.

I'm one of the few who don't think this product is perfect, so my complaints might be subjective.

I'd still recommend it, but I won't be buying it again.
