  • The show's concept is a bit predictable, and the plot twists aren't always surprising.
  • The pacing can be a bit slow at times, making it feel like the show's dragging its feet.
  • Mary Sue is a bit of a letdown - she's not as well-developed as the rest of the cast.
  • The show's got a bit of a problem with its female characters, with some feeling more like caricatures than fully fleshed-out people.
  • The plot can be a bit convoluted at times, making it hard to keep track of what's going on.

Editor's Summary

I gotta say, I was blown away by Lucifer - a show that's got it all: style, substance, and a healthy dose of black humor. The soundtrack is expertly curated, and Tom Ellis brings the perfect blend of charm and charisma to the title role. But be warned, the show's not without its flaws.

I've got to give a shoutout to my friend who recommended this show - I was browsing through my Aircast with the thought 'what's next?' when I stumbled upon this gem and was blown away by its high rating. I decided to chime in with my two cents.

📺 ABOUT THE SHOW:

So, if you want the short version without getting into the nitty-gritty, the show's about Lucifer Morningstar, aka the Devil, who's bored out of his mind and decides to open up a nightclub in modern-day LA called 'Lux'. He's charming, charismatic, and devilishly good-looking, and he's living his best life - wine, women, and music.

And, of course, he's also got a therapist on the side to work through his daddy issues - yeah, that's right, the dude's got a beef with God himself.

But, as fate would have it, he meets a human cop named Chloe who's immune to his charms, and they team up to solve crimes in the City of Angels.

📺 WHAT I LOVED:

VisualsThe show's got some amazing visuals - dark, moody, and luxurious, with plenty of LA scenery, nightlife, and some seriously gorgeous women, cars, and interiors.

SoundtracksLet's talk about the music - it's top-notch, perfectly curated: stylish, upbeat, just the right amount of over-the-top and meaningful.

Humor

The humor's pretty good, too - it's dark, edgy, and based on human weaknesses, the eccentricities of the main character, and the fact that nobody believes the Devil is, well, the Devil. But by the end of the first season, it starts to get a bit old.

Some semblance of meaning

This gave me hope, along with the humor and the beautiful visuals, that this show was going to be something special.

For the first 2-3 seasons, it actually held onto some semblance of meaning, which can be summed up in one sentence: 'The Devil isn't evil, people are. They're the ones making the choices.'

And there were even some shallow but decent psychological and philosophical discussions.

The charm of 'The Dark Side'

Lucifer and his sidekick Maze are absolutely charming and natural in their roles. They're suave, sexy, strong, and funny. I had a blast watching them on screen.

The lovestruck Devil

I've gotta say, Lucifer is a total megastar, megahunk, megabeautiful, megasweet, and supernatural being who falls head over heels for yet another 'plain and ordinary, but uniquely special' girl. He starts helping and taking care of her in every way, but she just keeps rejecting him for no apparent reason. How many times have we seen this exact scenario play out?

Everything else around him and all the other characters are just background noise. The whole show revolves around the love story, and it becomes more and more obvious as the seasons go on. So, we're stuck watching this slow burn for all 5 seasons...

Trust me, this show is packed with so many clichés and predictable plot twists that it's like a never-ending rollercoaster. Plus, the detective storyline is a total snooze fest.

The boring detective plotAs we've established, this show isn't about solving mysteries and uncovering secrets. But even here, the predictability is off the charts. It's like they're trying to make it as obvious as possible who the culprit is, with no surprises in sight.

The love duet dynamics

And then there's her. 😊 Yeah, it's another tired trope: the girl who's been through a tough life, looks unassuming, and is just a 'good girl' who needs a rich and charming guy to come along and save her. We've seen this a million times, especially in detective stories.

I personally never understood why Chloe was so obsessed with Lucifer. Maybe the writers realized that she's not exactly the kind of girl who can catch the Devil, so they came up with some mystical explanation and added some extra sappy drama to make it work. 😊

If I were to remake Lucifer, I'd focus on the investigation, add some humor with a deeper meaning, and give Lucifer a sidekick like Maze. At least that way, it wouldn't be so cringeworthy and predictable.

ActingUgh, the acting is just terrible, especially the actress playing Chloe. It seems like she thinks playing any emotion means raising an eyebrow, slightly opening her mouth, tilting her head, and staring at her opponent. Or, you know, just scrunching up her face like she just ate a lemon:

But Tom Ellis as Lucifer and Lesley-Ann Brandt as Maze are the only ones who bring any charm to the show.

Neflix is a total stinkerIt didn't take long to figure out that after season 3, Netflix swooped in and bought the rights to this show from FOX...And let me tell you, it's a total stinker. The show took a nosedive in every way, and all its flaws became glaringly obvious. You'll see what I mean if you decide to watch.

The original comic book series

Another gut punch and kick in the pants from this show for true fans...There's a great comic book series called Lucifer from DC Comics with the same idea: the Devil and his sidekick Maze live among humans in LA. The problem was, they had to introduce some left-field Chloe character and turn the smart, surreal world of the comic into a mess with sparkles?

So, having the original source material here is more of a minus...

📺 THE AFTERMATH

I don't know, even if you're looking for a mindless romp to fill your heart with 'beautiful' love like Twilight, you can find something better...The Lucifer show is actually the weakest thing they could've done with such a great source material like the graphic novel.

It's really a shame that such trash gets pushed to consumers - the show was supposed to be canceled, but fans started the #SaveLucifer hashtag and it got a conclusion.

Don't waste your time.

But do check out:

New York horror from the 'Master of Horror'

A tasty trash about abusive Korean teenagers who became monsters and victims for real.

A socially conscious and intimate horror about 'the virus'.

Yours truly,

❤️
