Hey everyone! If you're looking for a light, easy-to-watch series that's fun for the whole family, I've got just the thing for you. It's a simple show with a bit of fantasy and a dash of humor that's not too overwhelming.
Premiere, genre, durationPremiere: January 1, 2026
Genre: comedy, science fiction
Duration: 8 episodes, roughly 25-30 minutes each
Director: Vitaly Dudnik, a young director who's just turning 35 - what a coincidence! Zhelka Russell is his first full-scale film work; prior to this, Vitaly shot short films.
PlotJenya (Eldar Kalimullin) from accounting is in love with his colleague Alisa (Victoria Agalakova).
He's really hesitant to take the first step, but he dreams of being close to the girl. One day, he ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time, sees something he shouldn't, and a wicked witch casts his spell - but with a twist: now he's her beloved dog! And just like that, from office wear to leash: It seems like Jack's life is finally working out - the girl is close, no more worrying about things, going to work, but the new skin isn't exactly what he likes, and the longer he's in dog form, the more dog-like he becomes. And that's how Jack Russell's incredible adventures begin. How's the humor? It's hit-or-miss, with some parts being too cheesy and silly. The latter overpowers the former.
I have to say, the joke about the guy hitting on a woman with a pickup line about her parents being bakers was pretty cringeworthy. He's basically asking if her parents are bakers because she's so sweet. It's a joke that's supposed to be funny, but it just falls flat.
It turns out, the woman's dad is actually a baker, and he owns a small bakery.
The joke is just not well-timed and it's kind of a low blow. Oh, the things that guys will say when they're in love.
Or take the time when the guy is dressed up as a dog and he's disappointed that he didn't get a bonus for checking out the naked woman.
Even here, the joke is pretty weak.
I was waiting for Alice, but another woman came out, and without even looking at her, Eugene confessed his love and handed her a bouquet. It was pretty awkward, especially the part about the shovel.
And then there's the toilet humor - it's a real laugh riot! A dog left a present on a car wheel. It's just classic.
But what about the magic? There's magic too. Anyone can be a wizard, like turning a curly-haired guy into a sexy woman:
I've got to say, even the most mundane moments can be entertaining when you've got a pet that's as quirky as this one. Like the time my cat decided to print a message to her friend: And then, at the end, we discover the shocking truth about Elmira Ruslanovna:
A big help in this is Oleg Pavlovich, the winner of the show about people with extrasensory abilities:
Takeaways and recommendationsDon't expect too much from this series - it's unlikely that anyone will be re-watching it multiple times. Once is more than enough.
I think this show is great for families or watching with kids - the plot's pretty wholesome and suitable for all ages. The storyline's a bit shallow, but it's got some unexpected twists that'll keep you engaged. I found myself watching it in the background, curious to see how it all played out. The cast is amazing, with standout performances from Ekaterina Klimova, Alexei Maklakov, Eldar Kalimullin, and Victoria Agalakova.
The background score is top-notch too!
This show is perfect for when you want to unwind and not think too much, or just have something light on in the background. It's a feel-good story for adults, so if you're not looking for anything too serious, I'd definitely recommend it! Bonus points for dog lovers, I think.
One thing that bugged me was the awkward humor - it just didn't land for me.
Thanks for reading!
