But in this book, we're introduced to Trum's dad and Little Elka.

The storyline is pretty simple, but most of the actions aren't typical for our climate. It's almost New Year's time... Tractor and his dad are digging in the woods. We already have snowdrifts by then. They went to plant the tree back in the forest, but it was snowing. Will it take root, and is it even worth it? I had so many questions running through my head. My two-year-old didn't notice, of course.

In the previous books we've read, there's a clear idea. I didn't catch it in this one. Digging up trees for New Year's and then planting them back in the forest? Giving up on living trees?

I've never been a fan of real Christmas trees. Growing up, we always opted for artificial ones, and that's still the case today. I mean, I get it – some people love the idea of having a tree that's been specially cultivated – but I just can't get on board with the whole ordeal, especially when it comes to the mess of shedding needles.

Despite my reservations, my son has been begging me to read this book to him over and over again. He's absolutely obsessed with it.
