A Lifan Breez Review: How This Chinese Car Surprised Us as a Family Ride

summarizeEditor's Summary

We've had our Lifan Breez for a year now, and I'm still loving its comfort and features. With a big family like ours, we mostly drive around town and occasionally head to the countryside. The Lifan Breez has been a great choice for us, offering a ton of standard features and decent fuel efficiency. Plus, it's surprisingly comfortable even for our tall kid with a car seat. I've been the primary driver, and I've gotta say, it's handled everything we've thrown at it, from potholed roads to family road trips.

We've had our Lifan Breez for a year now, and I'm still loving its comfort and features. I actually rode in the backseat a few times before we bought the car, and it felt pretty comfortable even with my husband, mother-in-law, and our kid all squeezed in with a car seat.
With a big family like ours, we mostly drive around town and occasionally head to the countryside. I'm the primary driver, so I'll be sharing my experiences from behind the wheel.
One thing that really stood out was the impressive list of standard features we got with the base model. It came with fog lights, a steering wheel lock, electric windows, automatic door locks when driving above 20 km/h or a manual button, child lock for the windows, electric adjustment for the side mirrors, a conditioner, and heated front and rear windshields. Honestly, that's all I need for comfort.
I was also really happy with the fuel efficiency. We get around 6-8 liters per 100 km, which is great for our daily driving. I've replaced the brake pads once, and they cost around 2000 rubles. Some people say it's hard to find spare parts, but so far, nothing has broken.
The view from the driver's seat is great, both in front and around the car. It's easy to see the road to the sides when exiting. The conditioner works well, and the heater does its job too. We haven't had to refill the conditioner yet, but it's still going strong.
There's plenty of space for passengers. They say it's comfortable even when there are three adults in the back with a car seat. I've had a child in the car seat and two adults in the back, and we've been stuck in traffic, but they felt fine.
The trunk is spacious. We can fit a large stroller folded up and a few bags of groceries. Or seven large bags like those from Auchan or X5.
The driving experience is really pleasant. My longest drive was 2.5 hours, and I was only a bit tired. Before this, I'd driven a Lada 15 for 2 hours non-stop and was completely exhausted.
The engine is Lifan's 1.3 liter, 96 horsepower. It accelerates quickly, and it starts in -20°C without any issues. It handles well in the city, and we've even driven it on medium-sized bumps on the way to the countryside. The high suspension helps with that.
We have two airbags, which gives me peace of mind when driving.
The sound insulation could be better, but that's a minor issue for me.
Now, about the downsides:
The rear window wipers make some noise, so I don't use them much.
The transmission is a bit stiff. Sometimes it takes a few attempts to engage the reverse gear. That's about it, really.
So, for us, this Lifan Breez is a great option as a family car. It's not as comfortable as some European models, like the Škoda Fabia, but it beats the Lada and Daewoo Nexia hands down. I've gotten used to the minor issues, and now I hardly notice them. I don't want to part with this car, even if we decide to get a larger vehicle for longer trips. I'll stick with the Lifan for city driving.
Chinese manufacturers have done a great job, if I'm being honest. If you're considering a car, don't overlook them.
(If anyone knows why the photos are uploaded upside down, despite looking fine on my device, please let me know.)
